It will be shoulder to shoulder by the time I get back there.

When I stopped at the visitor center they only told me about the hotel next to the cafe where I ate.  The doors to the hotel were locked so I couldn't go in and ask them.

I've never stayed in a caravan park until tonight.  We don't have these things in the states.

I call caravan parks over here ‘claim jumper villages’.

In Victoria they are usually good for a base camp, it’s too bloody cold this time of year in the bush over there.  Last time I was there the owners were very friendly to all the tourists, mention your looking for gold and they give you maps of all the local state forests and areas you are allowed to detect.  They have a friendly group of about half a dozen couples who are there every year and you can sit around the fire an yarn about the days takings, someone might even take you under their wing.

here is your dinner tomorrow night Mitchel, https://www.redrooster.com.au/locations/bendigo/

Grab yourself a half chicken and chips!  One of my favourites!

Or snag yourself the lunch deal!

We don't have Red Rooster in NZ but I always make it my first stop when I go to OZ.

You should have come to NZ, we could have had you find your first Kiwi nuggets in a day ?

I’m a bit suss on your nugget in a day comment mate, how come you haven’t been picking them up if it’s so easy?

Ok, let me update and observe.  In honor of Phrunt I went to Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC to him) tonight and got a favorites meal.  It's finger lickin good!

I've checked in early tonight and got a fantastic place at the A Line Holiday park.  It has a queen downstairs and 3 twin beds upstairs.  I am in #7 but there are more of these A frames than that.  What a deal.  I got it because I used my phone (the cell is working on my T-Mobile with unlimited text and data) while I was at Whipstick detecting.  The last couple of days I detected all day and got what was left of the rooms at the end of the day.  This would/could be a longer term place to stay depending on my research tonight.  It is part of southern Bendigo.

Now to the detecting.  I suck.  I've got nothing to show for this first few days.  I've gone to a couple of places I picked out before the trip, a couple of places where other told me to go and just looked at workings and stopped but my Australian algorithms haven't kicked in yet and I haven't gotten lucky hunting the roads and parking areas!  haha

Tonight I need to look at my options for the next few days and perhaps get some comments.  Let'm fly while I eat chicken.

    Mitchel

Pro tip #36. Stop moving around so much, you have near been to more areas in Victoria then I have.  Pick an area and stick at it till you get gold.

I noticed you only spent 1 day at Wedderburn, the caravan park there is cheap to stay at and literally right on the gold.  I sent a newbie there a couple years back and he got his first nugget a 2.5oz piece 300m from the back fence.  If your getting rubbish it’s not flogged, have some faith in your research and stick to it, good luck mate.

    Hey Dave,

Thanks for putting all that together for me.  That 17" coil seems like the ticket for sure.  My storage bill at Trent's is escalating rapidly.  I sure hope I soldered the coil adapter correctly.  If Trent has to fix my mistakes my "cartons owed" column is going to be downright scary.

Your not wrong about that, took two blokes to even lift the box your ‘tent’ came in, going to need a tandem trailer just to get it all out to site.

I got an area ready to test the 17”, your going to need a lot of gold to cover generator and jackhammer hire, 3ft of iron cap will sort the men out from the boys.

  5. Very nice piece Andyy.  I often go out early in the morning over here, it’s amazing how much quieter the ground is.  I think it’s a mixture of two things, less EMI and the ground seems to degauze (not sure that’s a real word) overnight and reenergise gradually during the day from the sun.

I have a mate who loves detecting straight after lightning storms, he reckons that also seems to degauze the ground and make really hot ground quieter.

  6. Arsenic is the main indicator we use when scoping new areas over here.  The XRF gun isn’t really accurate on gold when sampling, so we generally go of the arsenic levels when deciding which samples to get assayed.  Saves a fortune in assay costs by only assaying the ones likely to have gold.

Nearly all areas have been soil sampled over the last 50 years, putting these together and mapping the elevated levels is a great tool for finding patches.

  7. Don’t worry Condor we will look after you, I have already set up a bar tab for you, you currently owe 3 cartons.

Paul almost done a similar trick to his zed , first 5 minutes of meeting him he pulled his zed out and stuck it on the roof of the car with 1 rotten old strap holding it ?

Swapped an ounce of gold for your prospecting vehicle today, when I transferred the registration they asked if we were taking it interstate, I just laughed ‘she wouldn’t make it that far’ so I got a discount and added another carton to your bill ??

  8. I take size 12 in 4x4 pluggers Paul.

The ugly nugget patch is still producing got this 1.5kg chunk this morning.

That appears to be fairly solid bedrock, how does that impact hammer do taking it apart? What brand and what price?

How long does the battery last per charge?

    fred

I have the same kit so can answer Fred,  It is Dewalt, with the 9ah battery the vacuum runs for about 25min continuous, but obviously you would be just switching it on an off so should last a lot longer.  I use it for rock samples with a 32mm drill bit and can easily do 20 holes before swapping batteries.

The battery technology is amazing nowdays, I have nearly every tool dewalt make.  I did 12 cuts of solid 2” bar and was still going strong with their 54v grinder !

This app seems pretty cool, seems to only be suitable for Western Australia from what I can see but a good idea.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.mobile.thehappyprospector&hl=en

This fantastic App (Annual Subscription for advanced features) provides Metal Detectorists and Gold Prospectors in Western Australia with real time positional information using their smart phone or tablet device (Android) to show their current position on a map with the ability to overlay the Western Australian Department of Mines Tenement Data so the user knows if they are on a live or pending tenement. This makes the user’s smartphone or tablet a powerful tool to know exactly where they are on the ground in relation to Mining, Prospecting or Exploration tenements, giving the user the confidence to know that they are prospecting legally.

The Happy Prospector App was inspired by the need for Prospectors and in particular Metal Detectorists in Western Australia to be able to easily know where they are on the ground in relation to current Mining Tenement Data.

It has been developed to provide Prospectors and Metal Detectorists in Western Australia with a mobile device based App that provides, Real-time position information against Tenement Data that functions with or without internet while still being easy to use. Tenement Data file updates require Internet access.

There are plenty of better options that do the same thing (maps plus for example) no point in paying an annual fee for this in my opinion, also it is about 3000km away from where he is prospecting. ??

Nah, Trent wont go to Tassie, even less gold there then WA.

I’ve done loads of prospecting in Tassie, not as much gold but you can get Osmiridium there, worth even more then gold!

I won’t be rushing down to sluice in the snow again though, sitting in the backhoe over here is much more pleasant .

New generator turned up for the dry blower yesterday, 25kva Lister ??

Thanks...I havent tried the voice command ones, but i have used a GP3 and 2 knock off 4Ks--- i seem to always ruin the camera lens by scratching it .  And the audio is non existent if i keep it in a waterproof case---- and i even scratch up the lens on that plastic case and they arent replaceable.

Voice command??? I dont know how that would work in a waterproof case.....

I was looking at security/police body cams but if im not wearing a harness i wouldnt have anywhere to mount it...

So i am thinking back to the tripod----- or the selfie follow me drone...

How long the drone would last is another iffy thing---

Taskmaster has dubbed me "Conan the Destroyer" after last year, so I am thinking the drone wouldnt stand much of a chance---it would probably end up flying to Alice Springs or somewhere in that general direction.....

I liked the Solo Shot, --~~~~ but ...spendy and bulky---

I just found a DJI pocket that looks nice, it is a little spendy, too--- but thats why I am working on the Holiday today!!!!

Holiday pay buys tools for, " Aussie Mission 4 "

There are a lot of good videos on the DJI and thats the way I am leaning....

    Cheers!

Why does it have to be waterproof?  Hasn’t rained here in 6 months ?

  13. Thank you for the detailed reply Chris.  It’s always interesting to hear about how other people are going about things.

A 375m diamond hole with hassles that missed the target would generally kill a project here, and make it hard to get more holes drilled by investors.  They don’t mention any assay results? The majority of targets we drill have a significant halo so even when you miss you know your close, is that different there?

We are spoilt over here with loads of shallow areas to make exploration easier, when funding the drilling ourselves we purposely target shallower ground.  I actually dropped a 2000ha tenement a year or two back that had drill results of 38gpt Au at 120m deep purely because it was too costly to drill through the 80m of sediment to reach the fresh rock and prove the deposit.

Good luck with it and I hope it all turns out for you.

What did you do? The helicopter survey that was done on our claims cost upwards of $100,000 US dollars. Did you do a ground based survey?

Yes it was a ground based in loop TEM survey.  We had already mapped the surface gossans with our XRF, so had a fair idea.

Unfortunately as you know everything in this game cost a lot, but the rewards are usually worth it if your ground work is good.

Surveys over here are usually not too bad , but the drilling is a killer.  We drilled 120 holes to 70m on another project last year, now that’s expensive!

The search was for VMS conductors but the little box you can see below the helicopter about half way between the coil and the 'copter is a magnetics measuring device. VMS conductors have both a conductive and magnetic signature, and the use of both is how they discriminate between a lot of other things that might show up. Nevada has a lot of aquifers in the ground where the water is a little salty. This means the aquifer will show up as conductive. But the salt water has no magnetic signature. VMS conductors have both. So functionally using both allows the explorer to discriminate between things that are valuable (like VMS ore bodies) and things that are not valuable (like salty water or bodies of iron ore that are magnetic but not conductive).

Thanks for the reply Chris.  We have also spent a lot of time exploring for VMS deposits in the last year.  Waiting on our best conductor to be modelled at the moment so we can stick a hole in and flog it off.

Obviously Paul did listen occasionally during his lessons ??
