  1. Arrrrrr Thanks guys ! It sure was a surprise for a 10 minute hunt ?.. I did dig one other hole ,,,,a big fat pull tab and it was perfect !! ? Maybe the nomad brought me luck ? I wasn't much of a son of the beach ?‍☠️ this year but it was a memorable one no doubt.and I DID kinda feel like a pirate on my way out of there ! Hopefully I can get another chance there before summah camping season starts and the queen shows up? ? And it's supposed to be almost 50 in a couple of days , so maybe not totally done till spring ? , gonna try to do some beaches on nicer days . Would be nice if I could score a campsite on a beach like you 350 ! But this place still has many treasures yet uncovered....
  2. Check Goodwill/Salvation Army/secondhand stores ! ? I've had amazing luck finding cases for a lot of my things there . After seeing what was there ,I made a list of things I wanted cases for with dimensions. and brought it in with a tape measure every trip. I found cases for over half of my list that fit perfect and that includes accessories where needed over a period of about a year. I only bought the HD higher end ones too. Never paid more than $10 for any of them , most were $2-$5. Go often , the good things don't last long. (I went every day , mom lived a couple of blocks away ..)
  3. It ain't ovah , till it's ovah! ? Friday my Radius Nomad shovel arrived and I just went outside to see if my dirt was still frozen , It wasn't ! So I grabbed the nox and swung right behind the rig. ~15 feet away I got a jumpy signal 23-34 range so the nomad got it's first taste of dirt. I made an extra big plug remembering that knife last summer . Nothing in the hole ? so I ran the pointer around the plug and right on top dead center it went crazy ! Yeah , it is a 35 but this was different then the usual crazy. Of course when I got the PP I didn't grab the hori knife so I used the nomad , it's almost a hori near the tip anyway. It still got a little scratch but out popped this.(link instead of actual photo just cuz I can ! ) and the sun is a little anemic today , there's 4" of white on the ground and another 8 or so still up between me and the sun ! I'll post a pic ?if it ever returns...... https://www.amazon.com/Streamlight-66604-Microstream-Black-Flashlight/dp/B077BLB1DN/ref=sr_1_2?crid=2KHMIV1GO6YRN&keywords=Lithium%2Bion%2Bpowered%2Bflashlights%2BStreamlight%2Bmicrostream%2Busb&qid=1704410114&sprefix=lithium%2Bion%2Bpowered%2Bflashlights%2Bstreamlight%2Bmicrostream%2Busb%2Caps%2C992&sr=8-2&th=1 It is perfectly functional ,, the seals were still good. And it works great ! I'll be using it detecting mounted on my hat ! But this tale isn't over. This is the little brother of one I found at Goodwill last winter for $4 but it was tuesday so I got the senior discount $3.20? https://www.amazon.com/Streamlight-88083-ProTac-battery-holster/dp/B079DDL8HN/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2W5SAMJIVIZPK&keywords=Streamlight%2Bprotac%2B2X-L%2BUSB&qid=1704650350&s=sporting-goods&sprefix=streamlight%2Bprotac%2B2x-l%2Busb%2Csporting%2C314&sr=1-1&th=1 It is an awesome light ! and the little one looks like a clone , just smaller and not as bright. I'd recommend the brand . If it can survive me for a year ....? I didn't realize how much they cost until I looked last night after I noticed they were both from the same mfg. Plus I got the secret button push codes to program them ! So I guess It was my "thanks for detecting here" prize the day before it froze up for good ....or was it??? Stay tuned . next storm is rain and mid 40s Another WEIRDO WINTER uptah camp ! ?
  4. Interesting to see the results ! Karma is smiling.? VL might be right? That ring could belong to a mysterious foreign princess. It was the first ring the prince gave her. They are now king and queen and there is a REWARD !!!! There IS a ?% of possibility here... Or maybe your wife will wear it after you tell her this... ? Nahhhhhhh ! But if you keep the ring you can use my story !
  5. Welcome to the forums Richard ! Answers to all your questions and more , you just hit the jackpot ! Since the 80s? There's a lot to absorb so get comfy. Retirement rules and so do dirt pirates . Panama City huh ? You are a son of the beach?. PI or VLF on the beach ? BOTH work . How deep do you like to dig ?
  6. Welcome aboard Longroad ! Lots of Manticore spoken here. Good luck on finding some Florida gold , and I don't mean oranges.
  7. Nice hunk of land to swing over for sure ! ? When are you going back to clean up what you missed ??
  8. Happy birthday, belated better than none... A late lucky birthday to you. that's better.?
  9. I can't help IDing + processing those rocks but welcome aboard KC ! Good luck , hope you are about to be rich ! ?
  10. Welcome to the crew ! Turn on and go sounds like what you're looking for .. $1k total for a detector and all the extra's . (Remember the ones with all the buttons and menu selections come with presets that the design engineers have done all the programming for you ! Still turn on and go but with options as you get better , again with that help from friends here.) I'm gonna say general rule , half and half on the detector+ the etc. ~$500 each ? but the extra's are basically optional on costs depending on choices . First one I come up with is a Vanquish 540. ~$500 wireless headphones and a small coil come with it ! (small coils are a must have for most of us but NOT required ) The coil can get wet but the brain likes to stay dry.. (The Legend is about the same $ but a little more complicated. Still has presets plus you could actually learn the thing enough over time to get by with help from your new friends) This one will go undah wahtah with no problemo ! The classifieds here has less costly options too. Anything sold there has been field tested by one of us. Good luck finding the right detector and what you find with it ! Your extra list in no particular order. A pinpointer . Some never use one but some others swear by them... ($30-$!30) range. Digging tools , any shovel in a storm ! I really like the Radius Nomad ($40-50)for it's light weight and root slaying heritage. (It's big brother is around too if the extra weight isn't a problem. 'bout same price as the Nomad... The $20 garden spade I started with is still in the trunk) A hori type garden knife/digger is good for the easy close to surface targets. An all plastic trowel so you can metal scan as you go. Beaches tame down a bit with a sand scoop but many just use their shovels. A finds pouch. Anything will work. Of course the suppliers fill this void but I've found some good ones at Goodwill (camera bags for a couple of bucks each) Knee pads or something to kneel on is popular !
  11. Welcome aboard from uptah camp ! Sounds like you're doin' pretty good. If you have any pics , we always like to see what others are finding and comments always available for those whatzits ! ?
  12. Good show Chase. And good luck on the next storm.? White predicted for here but I did find a couple of targets today. Windchill shortened the hunt after two holes .
  13. Your pickture of picks made me bring this up.? But I'm being picky ! Dirt Pirate Book of Rules: #117b None of those picks should be used to pick your nose ! (An actual rule , the "guidelines" clause does not apply in this case.)
  14. Nice last chance finds ! The chain looks awesome ! The medallion is hard to decipher but the color sure looks familiar !
  15. Something we're all aware of out here in the trenches ..? Shareholders seem to be ignoring the reality of Karma !? Leading me to wonder...? What's corporate's plan for when their obviously math challenged customers decide it's time to be greedy with their money ? Raise prices more ? Have a LUCKY New Year Minelab ! You're gonna need it. (BTW I just got a "carrott" to replace my insane 35 !) Terrible situation eh? "Instant Karma's gonna get ya unh huh".
  16. Wishing MANY Happy Finds in the New Year to All of My Dirt Pirate Friends here on the D/P Forums arrrrrrrr ?‍☠️ ? !
  17. Have a good lucky year everybody ! ?
  18. That's a classic smiley face curve.350...? It's the hairs in the inner ear that matter. So maybe steel wool ??
  19. Awwww. It stuck to the wrong part ! The plot thickens...Is the straw still in there too? so a plug tip with maybe a little rod sticking up , the ring if stereo and ground barrel with a toothpick chaser ? and a tight fit back up to daylight ! arrrgh call Obi -wan ! Laproscopic surgeon wanted , apply stat. Did you try the screw ? (maybe a 1/4" lag bolt would be a nice tight fit , possibly too tight) but good tool on the barrel and ring . it will only go straight in and if the pin is in the way...... ) or how about pointy tweezers ? I'm just spitballing things to try out it's not a simple turn it upside down and shake kinda thing.. (did you try that ? never know...) even a service center would likely roll eyes on this one. The toothpick wasn't a bad idea from a less metal in there the better perspective. If there's no loose debris rattling around it might be best to just live without the phones...that said. I guess toothpick 1st. Acetone on a q-tip? might help. ( If it has enough time , It WILL dissolve plastic too , so test first. and use sparingly.) Go slow , but not too slow. Get a big fish hook and straighten it out if the paper clip doesn't grab anything ,, length is good to hold on to.. Tie something to it so you don't lose it in there too. Maybe involve a magnet ? ( one side of that jack has a big metal connector going to the tip. if you can see in there avoid that side.....) It's been a long time since I played these games. Like I said things usually came apart back then.. I almost miss it sometimes,, not really.
  20. Nice end of year bonus prize ! WTG. check. One day left !
  21. A remarkable change , and a detailed description of your methodology to go with it. ?
