Nisaku Njp650 Hori-hori Weeding & Digging Knife
rvpopeye replied to Swegin's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
My friend has one of those for his garden that he brings sometimes and now I use a bigger version. (link below) The notched tip is also sharpened. (The Hori is much lighter on the "Batman Accessory" belt though . But mine is easier to find...) ๐ GREAT for most lawns , but dry hard clay or rocky soil , not so much. I love it for digging under roots too ! Zero (almost) trace dig holes for targets ~6"/15cm or less on manicured lawn permissions. I use it to make a slit in the turf that I spread apart and excavate with a small plastic trowel onto a piece of heavy plastic . The knife can be used to dig as well. Yes there is pinpointing involved๐ฅธ Easy to dump it all back in the hole by folding the plastic in half push the slit back together. Maybe pack it down with my boot . I have trouble finding where I dug most of the time.๐ง Fiskars https://www.homedepot.com/p/Fiskars-14-in-Big-Grip-Garden-Knife-70796935J/202681617 -

What Does Everybody Use For Tick Protection?
rvpopeye replied to Rick N. MI's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
I've used them all except for the lavender . Including the net suits . The permethrin dip is awesome. They all work , sort of. Repel40 is my go to , but I have a bottle of the tick spray too , Like I said I use them all,,, Anything is better than nothing in bug war. I swell up like crazy with insect bites. Ticks , not so much but have a tick spoon for easy removal (of the bigger ones),,,agree the tiny deer ticks are the worst , and they are the ones carrying Lyme.... The DEET will definitely melt plastic , I remember the Estwing hammer handles that got slick when I was doing construction back in the 90s. I also found out the hard way it will dissolve the rubber lining in my Grunden$ rain gear ! I wore it over a shirt and pants that was sprayed with deet a few hours earlier , so not just the liquid...๐ข You have been warned....arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh ! .. I've also found the lack of ticks at the beaches a nice bonus ! -

We Need Tougher Plastics For Detectors & Coils
rvpopeye replied to geof_junk's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
You do have a good point , that good stuff probably weighed too much...๐ค -
Good info so far ^^ Weight was an issue for my abused old elbows ! I chose a smaller one (T-Rex ) stainless and just put on an old wooden D handle from a grain shovel (which was too big for snow!) As mentioned , the carbon fiber handles are a great choice if you have the $. I'm saving for an upgrade..... There are short clamp on handles that make pulling a straight shaft UP easier ! Get one of them if you go straight any type handles . Slippery when wet. Some people add a pool noodle to keep 'er afloat when wading in above waist water.. this works for the detector too.... Don't forget the sun screen. Happy digging, life's a beach !
