Alrighty then..... I did a swing after the big skiing event. I took note of where groups of people were standing around the track fence and of course the bleachers . Ground still freezing up at night but I found one spot near the track with a south facing slope that had zero ice ! It might even get better today ? Mid winter thaw ending for a bit tomorrow ..... 5 targets that I could get to. A double clad quarter drop and also a couple copper pennies trying for dimes ! But target #3 was a ring !😜 of bling.😵 but it WAS yellow ! hmmm so was that 925 ring last fall at the festival CG hunt ? 🤔 Except that one thawed spot , I only dug what the pinpointer could find and had to turn it down a couple of notches in sensitivity so 2" max. or no dig. Under the bleachers was a skunk , glazed over with ice and didn't need to detect , visual only. Much was still frozen but I live here . Just as close but a little less productive than 350s fields .....😉

I have experience with systems that have a turn on/off sequence .(on and off usually being opposite) (Tweeter drivers can get expensive ....don't ask me how I know that.) But individual units ? I don't recall any with such restrictions except don't hot patch a condenser mic ! Maybe similar transient issue in a PI coil w/chip ? BUT After Geotech's response above , due to my inexperience under a detector's hood I would defer to him.... and the disclaimer. 👍

That's It! I'm Throwing Away My Detectors!
rvpopeye replied to Erik Oostra's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
SO , it will show where gold is located by indicating areas in blue . WOW , So easy to learn , any newb could do it ! In the pic it's showing blue areas on the water too 🧐 so I can confirm in my color expert opinion it is a true blue detector. ( I studied the chart in the paint department at Lowes) Settings used seems critical however . I wonder if their design engineer can tell me what settings they used in photoshop or paint to "tune it in " ? Probably be on the first page of the manual....🤩 I see others calling dibs on those detectors Erik. Let me be the first of offer $ . They ought to be worth at least $20 , which should cover the cost of that wonder detector's parts. -

Of course she does ! You're a musician 😎 so she's used to it ! ( band wives and GFs usually sit out by me during the shows...I've heard the secret words.)😳 -
Welcome aboard grumpy ! The brothers of the GPX crew here have all the info you seek.. You'll get up to speed on the 5000 , no problemo. Phrunt linked a good clue vid above . "You have questions , we have answers. " was the Radio Shack motto but I could easily ask questions they had no clue on and they sure sold crap detectors 🙄 and yes , it was my first one ! 🤩 a Discovery 2 .discontinued ~50 years ago . with good reason. I still have it and it goes beep , but nothing else works except the on/off switch. Real answers from real experts here real free clues included.🥸. My best friend is a grumpy too. He has 6 yo twin grandkids ,and they just figured out why they've been calling him grumpy 🤔 ...LOL

They're called Cut Pistareenes huh ? But not one was bleeding ! ,,,and were you looking in a latrine ? Is that a good spot to look for them pisston thingies ? Thx for the pointy finger , I'll check there later. Too bad you skunked on this one , better luck next hunt . I hope you find a fully grown one next time !

sohN I suppose you're right . My clad quarter is worth 25 of those zincolns , maybe 30 ? And I only had to dig a few holes into a giant dirtcicle too ! Thx for pointing that out. I feel better now. The half pull tab and foil ball is nothing compared to your junk though . 🤗! -

O TAY ! 11 silvers and a gold topper ! Another 5# of coins , (those must really be adding up !) You didn't make me look so bad today though. The others beat you to it this time ! 😏 And somehow I got a clad quarter, a pull tab. And a ball of foil that was actually a nickel ! Until I scraped down to it and found the foil.. -

You do have a point. Best I can figure why I do it.. Because the greedy people that make and sell them earned the publicity . Because the clueless people thinking about buying them could use a heads up. (PT Barnum said "a sucker is born every minute" , so it seems someone always does. Evidence the occasional newb showing up and first post is asking about them , preferably before buying one) And maybe , just maybe , because if we do , well , some of those people will stop buying them? And finally , pointing and laughing , though not socially acceptable , can be a lot of fun for a good cause. Kinda like why some people think they should jump in the ocean in the middle of winter 🥶....not because they really want to. -
Looking For Stuff In All The Wrong Places
rvpopeye replied to F350Platinum's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
I did the same thing to that knife I dug last summer. We gotta dig bigger holes I guess.. 🥸 So much harder to hide than the little ones. I can't believe I didn't scratch the quarter I dug today. The ice kept deflecting the shovel and I was digging 5 times to gain an inch a lot of the time. But I WAS digging In the middle of February uptah camp . 🤯!- 12 replies

Thaw update. The ground is saturated . If it thaws at all , it refreezes every night. A few more days above freezing then back to single digit temp nights and teens/twenties day. It IS February uptah camp. So very acceptable 👍 (I know I will be freeze-doomed for mentioning it 🙄) I started yesterday , just before sunset . 1/2 inch at a time , I just kept going back . Made it almost there . Last thing , I decided to waste a battery on the heat gun but the watery frozen dirt wasn't playing around. ( Not digging out the propane torch . Maybe tomorrow?) Today , I scouted out a couple more black spots ( I figured it would be less noticeable than white , no hope of leaving no trace plugs in this stuff ! I'm basically shaving the ice.... 4th try the target was out of the icicle dirt ! Only took a half hour , over two days..... Target 1 , a 2006 quarter. 🤗 Next spot , I think I found a nickel and that hole is getting sun (no sunblock) . Stay tuned , I'm going back out in an hour. Then a triple beeper up top , maybe a penny or a piece of jewelry? , I split it in half on the second "chop ? " and there it was ! Target 2 , 2/3 of a pull tab , slightly mangled . The ice dirt can keep the 1/3 left behind ! . The pointer is a must have for dig or no dig decisions . More than an inch or so is crazy talk. Then a really loud Target #3. 1/2" down , Horse tac. A broken off snap ring . It was slow going . Ankle getting sore from slamming down on the shovel but tomorrow is another over freezing day maybe over 40 ? I did manage to sink the shovel 3" in only one stomp near the rig but someone had already cleaned house there ! Target 4. The nickel turned out to be some aluminum foil.

The boss said scrap this ugly POS and go with one of the props from any war movie and a can of metallic gold spray paint . It's true, I tell ya ! 😎 -
