That's a beautiful coin by any measure, I find a fair amount of Spanish silver but nothing that big. I'd probably mistake it for shallow big iron, what ID did you get? Congratulations!

I think the word "Gyro" is a misnomer for motion sensor, much like a cellphone has built in to orient the compass. A motion sensor would indeed aid the further development of auto recovery along with detection data, that is the only point I'm making. It is an interesting thought. 🤔

I think the Quest V80 will be on track for that technology coming around, it will have a motion sensor that evaluates your swing speed somehow. 🤔

Overall the 9" is a good start. 👍 May be all you need. My detector store is almost a 2 hour drive one way, but if I'm going to buy a detector, like you, I want to get my hands on it. I will order accessories online. I bought the MI-6 and other coils that way. Looking forward to your exploits with it!

It appears you are leaning towards the Deus 2 now, 🙂👍 I read earlier that you will be searching for relics and coins and going to the beach, not doing any sort of prospecting. My suggestion to you is that because you will be beach searching, the best thing for you to do is get the Deus 2 9" package, and then get the 13x11" coil either with it or later when you are used to the machine. In my opinion the 11" coil does put you in the center of performance, but consider that if you want to have every opportunity to get as much as you can in the least amount of time you should have the smallest and the largest coils possible. You can see in your example video that they change them very fast. I won't comment on why I think that video is misleading, but I can tell you it is. I've been using the 13x11" coil since it arrived in the USA and have to say it seems better than the 11". I have all 3 coils and when there is not a lot of field stubble (soybean and corn stalks), I tend to use the 13" initially but return with the 9" to see if I missed anything, and almost always find I did not. If I use the 9" first I can be pretty certain that if I return with the 13", I will find coins and relics I missed., This is due to better swing overlap more than separation. Do remember that most of your detection comes from the center of the coil. The weight difference between the 13"and the 11" is so little that the only issue then is balance and attachment. You can shorten the shaft to make even the 13" feel light, but it will not feel as firmly attached as the 11", again only slightly. I often travel far from home and make sure to have all 3 with me in case one does not charge enough, but I almost never use the 11". To me there is no advantage the 11" has over the 13", and the 9" is best for tight spaces and water searching. Regardless of any advantage or disadvantage, you should always have at least 2 coils for the Deus 2.

I have the same hole in mine and the same problem, I've popped two bolts so far trying to keep it tight. This is with the SteveG shaft, I don't use it on the standard one. It stays on for a while but then... Pop. 😀 Needless to say I keep extras with me.

Nice Daniel! 👍 My absolute favorite is the MI-6, I have an F-Pulse, and the Carrot too. However, the Quest is always with me relic hunting because it is useful for ending a dig on deep iron. I hope they have improved it since I reviewed it over a year ago, wish there was an update 😏 Haven't been too impressed with the F-pulse yet, but I'll be taking it to the beach.

Nice hunt okie, congrats on the deep silver. 👍 It's great when a new coil changes a hunted out space. I've been touting the 11x13 for some time now, it's good to see others having the same or better results than me. I've used it in farm fields, on beaches, and even the heavy mineralized red clay in Culpeper Virginia. I have not once come home without something interesting, so it's me or the coil 😎 After 2 years of hunting the farms around here only rarely is something 10-12" deep, and the coil has hit it all. It also amuses me that it does well in iron, I've dug co-located targets many times. Relic season is all but over for me this year, I'm gearing up for a week long trip to a Southern beach. I'll be out every day giving it a workout and comparing it to another manufacturers' 15". 😀

Congrats on getting the 13x11, SS. 👍 I've gotten quite used to its weight so now swinging the 9" feels weird if I put it on the SteveG carbon fiber shaft. For the most part I use the 9" on the WS6 Master. If you have the whole kit you should get a second shaft. I always keep my shovel on my shoulder so I never have a problem with that, but it was detecting the brass rivets in the one knee pad I wear, so I bought a Velcro attached knee pad. 😀 Since it doesn't weigh much more than the 11" I appreciate the excellent coverage and can't wait to use it at the beach in a couple weeks. Great review, spot on with every observation.

I too really appreciate the D2's tight discernment of targets, it's quite reliable, and your head gets to do the discrimination. Cool that nearly all the pull tabs were identical in shape, and that you did a "real world" test of SMF vs. SF. It all has a nice ring to it 😏 Congrats and thanks.

Looks like Badgers' coins come up a bit less toasted than mine, well mostly. Definitely found a lot more of them too. 😀 If you find coins closer to a farmhouse they will usually be in better shape than the coins plucked from the farm, one of the first chemicals they use is lime. While not an extremely corrosive material, 300 years of farming using it must have some effect. Case in point was a large cent and half cent found near a house on land presumably not farmed, both had readable dates, where coins found in the farmed areas were almost obliterated. Chemicals and soil motion from farming most certainly contribute to that. I have now taken to spraying all my copper and brass finds with water rather than brushing them off. It definitely will save detail. There is no detail on the button below but often this type of Tombac might have had light engraving.

Nice hunt G-hound! 🙂 Running high sensitivity will cause those fairly consistent mid to high tones at the end of a swing. Of course with high sensitivity catching another target on the edge of the coil is also a possibility. With my program if it's not that loud it's probably sensitivity. If it is loud you should look 🤔 Bumping the coil against anything will also do it. I'd say your bullet is .45 caliber, it was hit with a firing pin and discarded. Sad but I've found many brass plates with no engraving or stamp. All in all that's a nice relic hunt, shame you didn't turn up any Civil War stuff but it's probably been detected many times. It's more what I would expect from a Victorian era to present hunt. Cool ring too, look for markings inside the band (I'm sure you know that), but it doesn't look high end, might have been plated. 👍 Have you looked at Historic Aerials topos to see if any houses were in the farm? They would appear as square dots on the older ones. Might zero you in on better stuff.

I have not used the Deus 1 but I've been using the Deus 2 for a long time now with great success. Because it is everything the Deus 1 is and much more, I would say the Deus 2 is the better choice, but you have to consider your budget and where you want to use it. Perhaps if you provide more information it would help. 🙂 To have all the Deus 2 accessories and coils will cost you well over US $2,000. Each accessory is more expensive than the Deus 1, although some work with the Deus 2. The coils are not interchangeable.

Your buckle is more likely chrome or nickel plated zinc, there's no scale but if it was silver and big it would be heavy. Hit it with some silver polish and if you don't get a lot of black it's not silver. 🙂 That button! Wow! The shank being "broken" leads me to think it was a leather stud. 👍 very cool find.

If you look up "ID for rocks and minerals" this site is one of the first that comes up. 😀 Not surprised that they do it, and sometimes the answers from the more 'geologically experienced" are incredible. I always read them. I've had a bit of fun a couple of times myself knowing a person won't come back,😏 but I have helped some with a genuine interest. They always come back. I come across very few rocks where I live now but as a kid I had an interest in them. 👍I think it's pretty cool and a lot better than the spam 😀

Gotta say this one freaks me out a bit, was it an exercise in assimilation (digging everything to understand the detectors' discrimination capability), or habit, because with your PI you usually dig it all? 🤔 I like the black sand advantage using gold mode. Do not tumble copper pennies with clad, best to get a dual tank tumbler. If even one gets in with the clad it can turn them all. 😵 I've used stainless shot and aquarium gravel, they work about the same but the gravel is cheaper.

Despite living in a very rural place, my bank has a coin counter because of the coin shortage. It has a hopper that they can dump a whole jug of coins in, and they will automatically deposit the funds in your account. All I do is tumble them, they will take the most corroded Zincolns and give you credit for them. Look around for a bank with one! Make sure you go when they're not too busy. There is no charge for this if it is your bank.

Excellent thoughtful review, Colonel. 👍 I have the 280 and keep it on hand as a go bag, but normally now I use a fly fishing vest to keep my on-hand stuff and coils on my back, it has a small backpack as well and pockets everywhere. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08PPB6V37 I cut the front black pockets off with a seam ripper, the pockets behind them hold coin boxes and my cell phone. For 45 bucks it's a steal. 🙂 Completely adjustable too.
