Joe, I was mystified when I dug that up. No idea why anyone would chuck an anvil in the ocean. Truly strange find. 🤪

Ring could indeed be rolled gold. Not going to try acid on it, my wife won't let me, but maybe specific gravity when I get home. It looks like it was made today. Not a scratch.

Only got one more day here, really didn't find anything else today, just $1 in change, all clad. Nothing really interesting so no post tonight! 😀 Thanks for all your help and encouragement.

Usually plated metals deteriate fast in the salt and you should see bubbles in the plating. Take a loupe and look it over for any scratches or scuffs and see if there are bubbles, chips etc and see if there is another metal below.

Low number wouldn't be that unusual for a high karat like 18 where more common 14 or 10 have higher tid's

Thanks! I do have a loupe, and I looked it over completely for marks or anything. Isn't all true gold stamped somewhere? There is nothing noticeable but nice shiny waxy gold.

😀 Seriously, seems to me if you want to upgrade to more tones cheap, and maybe join in some water hunting, the Nokta Makro Simplex+ will give you 99 tones if you want. I was going to get one to replace my non-ground balancing Garrett Ace 400. It's around $250.

However, the local dealer pointed me at the Minelab Equinox 600, and told me I would never regret it. I haven't other than it's not an 800. 🙄 It's about $650.

I've used a Simplex and liked it but love the symphony the Equinox plays. If you're technically and musically inclined and have no problem with Bluetooth, the Equinox is it.

I've been stomping farmland for 7 months now, and the beach for 6 days. It's a heckuva hobby. Since I'm retired and can get out almost every day I think people are getting bored with me, but this forum is the place for advice and tips. There is no free ride, no magic settings or machine, but the folks here are top notch.

You're doing great with the Bounty Hunter, learning a new machine can be trifling but the "modes" each one has will get you off and running. Come back with photos and for fine tuning!

Meantime have some trash. We all dig it. 🤪

Thanks! I figured it all out, just posted another days' stuff. Did pretty good. 🙂 So ya call the tide lines edges? I know what the troughs are.

It's kind of a unique situation here, the tide is literally 7-10 feet. A hundred feet of beach or more at low tide, next to nothing at high.

Early on at peak low the above was my view back at the beach. The umbrella is sitting at high tide!  😀

What I ended up doing which found me the coin line was going where my waist to knees matched up with the high tide line. Scored a bunch! The water was about 75-100 feet past me.

These tidal pools produced some stuff but the real sweet zone was a few feet from the top cut. I found older coins in the pools.

Well folks, I solved the problem.

Thank you all. It was exactly that the cover I had on there to look cool was messing up the display. Took it off and no issues today.

Not to many reports for shark attacks but there are some sharks out there.

Also at the present time there one area that has some kind of water contamination on Tybee, I believe it's around the pier, they have signs posted to stay out of the water there so it would be wise to heed those signs

Not going to the pier, that beach has too many people. Parking is horrible this week. I go to North Beach at the light/fort, and this hard to get to fishing beach.

Yep used to do a lot from my boat in the Potomac river, then changed to surf casting when I switched to an RV. We camp almost exclusively at beach campgrounds. It's easier to clean finds than fish!

When I think of all the stuff I could have found on the beach the last 15 years or so... 🤣 I've only been metal detecting for 8 months now.

You try shortening up the shaft so the coil is closer to your feet or get a counter weight? I have a sling and tried it a few times and could never get used to it. Think if you balance the machine it will be much easier for longer hunts. At least your starting to pick up some coins and that ring looks pretty cool for what it is. Just matter of time to find a few keepers.

I'm using the sling to keep from putting the detector down. It doesn't bother me or restrict my swing, I have the Equinox coil set to about 1-2" above the ground with my arm fully extended. I'm 6'1" so that isn't an easy task. Another perk using the sling is that no one can snatch my detector. The scoop has a long reach anyway. 😀

  Seriously though, I just put any good stuff in the pouch, as if it were a crappy zincoln, or trash! I keep a pretty good poker face on a crowded beach! You never know if someone that sees what you just found will say they just lost it!  And than chaos insues! Sad, but it can happen!

    You will also get people that genuinely lost something, and will ask if you can find it! That's a personal choice, if you have the time to do so! But if you do help, make sure they give you a detailed description of the lost item, so if you find something else in the process, they can't claim it's their's also, if they follow you! If not, you can get basic information, and a phone number and call them if you find it! 

   Most detectorists avoid crowded beaches for many reasons! It not a bad thing! But when your traveling, or trying to catch a tide cycle that's in the middle of the day, sometimes you just have to put up with all the distractions that go with it! Night detecting is a great way to avoid the heat and crowds! With a nice moon, or headlamp, it is very relaxing! But a little more risky if you hunt alone! Also, some beaches have night time closing hours!

  This got a little longer than I intended! But I wanted to give you a few more scenarios, now that you are a " Beach Jewlery Finder"! 💍😂👍👍

I've got one of those Calces365 pouches that has two zippered pockets and mesh to let the sand out. I have communicated with the person who makes them, he is really nice. They beat the Garrett bag by a mile on the beach. It looks like you're just dropping stuff in the bag.

Great points and food for thought for tomorrow. Just looked at the weather and I even get one more bonus day this week, I'm afraid I'm going to bore everyone to death with my posts. That's why I try to think up clever titles. 😎

Well there IS a doofus looking at the screen 😀, first thing I thought was that my sunglasses might be polarizing it but realized that they are only photo gray and don't polarize. I'll try a screen protector, I do have one of those covers that you put over the control box to protect it so I took the bubbly screen protector off. Hey I'll take any suggestions...

Thanks! Found it on eBay for 24.99, but it works for me - it's flawless. I'm really stoked with all the great advice I've got from this forum. Every day I go out I find something that at least makes the effort worthwhile. That 1967 penny was shocking.

When I was doing a lot of fishing, being asked "catch anything?" multiple times was kinda trifling, but I never expected the amount of people that would stop me metal detecting. 🤪 It's nice to be able to say "Every time I do this!" 😀

Hitting the main swimming beach tomorrow. I think I'm ready for it. There is another HUGE one down the road, but so many go there it would be tough to get anywhere. I've been coming to this island for 15 years now and I have never seen so many people.

Got a 600, been taking it to the beach every day. About 3-4 hours in with the sun beating down on it, the LCD display becomes hard to read. Should I get a hat for it? 😀 Seriously, is this a common issue? When I turn around and it's shaded somewhat or of I let it cool down for a bit the screen comes back, but it's annoying.

Is it a pre order yet? Gimmeeee!

The blue bottles are a bit more valuable than the rest, they were colored with cobalt. Great stuff! Worth the work. 👍
