  1. The only reason I might consider this detector would be if it had a 5 to 10,000 mAh PD battery in the handle to keep my phone charged while using it. Since I'm running OnX Hunt on my phone most of the time while detecting to track and record my finds, and sometimes switch to Historic Aerials and lidar mapping for intel on the area, it "might" be useful. Since cell phones are pretty resistant to and a source of EMI, I guess that might be a plus. 🀣

However, anyone thinking they won't need a new phone long before the contract ends might find this an ill-conceived advancement. Unless the 3d party folks can come out with some sort of really good protective scheme, you're going to scratch the crap out of your phone screen and get it covered with dust, salt spray and dirt.

As stated by many of the above, there are and will be much better options.

  2. Bought one of these and reviewed it in 2021 along with a couple other forum members, my first (fairly awkward) review of a product here. πŸ˜€ It's been in my detecting bag ever since. I use it for its discrimination, when going after an iffy target once I get close to it with my main pinpointer I'll use it to see if the target is iron, and stop digging if it is. It's been pretty good in that respect but not flawless.

Not long ago I was chasing a strong non-ferrous target or so I thought, it was probably 15-20" deep when it finally came out. When I was right on top of it I used the Quest and it sounded off full non ferrous.20230228_174936.thumb.jpg.b6ece3484b38850d8671c09e09870b5b.jpg

While a cool find, this iron stirrup completely fooled it (and my detector), probably because it was hardened.

On the bright side, it also kept me going in this same field to retrieve this that was at least 12" deep:20221114_191335.thumb.jpg.55fa37fe04ed765369e3f00f3974fce5.jpg

It's not my primary pointer for sure, as its high sensitivity settings as mentioned above cause it to go a bit nutty. Of late in the presence of other detectors and wireless stuff it's been giving an error message, something about holding it straight up. 😡 That's after over a year of use (abuse) and a lot of new gear, I'm not the only one to have noticed this.

This issue is not unique, my main pointer will go nuts like that as well, but it's not as annoying and goes far deeper than this one. Of the 4 I have it is my second choice, but as stated it is always with me. I wouldn't recommend it as an only pinpointer.

Overall it's a helpful tool to have available, worth the money and the extra carry weight. πŸ™‚Β It's well worth bringing attention to this pinpointer again. πŸ‘

I'm surprised the Deus kept up with the Axiom. πŸ€” As far as digging goes, if you just put your head down and don't count how many holes you make.... all is well until the next day πŸ˜„. I am here to make sure you never get a pulse machine or dump your Deus πŸ™‚

It's not too surprising here, most stuff is in the first 4-8", there is a clay/sand/loam layer, then red clay for about 6" more, then beach sand ad infinitum. The topsoil is blue marl, kinda sticky when wet, very heavy, but when mixed with farm tailings it's not bad. Most stuff doesn't make it past the clay. There are few if any rocks. Silver and large cents/copper discs will sound off down to 12".

Sometimes we will find beer cans at 2', mostly big iron. Anything that sinks that deep is usually crap. Usually it was tilled in a long time ago.

I'm certainlyΒ notΒ saying the Deus goes as deep as the Axiom, just that whatever Chase detected with it I could detect too, I did have the 13" and the deepest settings possible. We dug some of the stuff that was iffy but it was all nails. In nearly every case the Deus 2 called it right, and the Axiom iron check worked well. It was interesting, but the wind was really ripping and I don't blame Chase for switching to the Deus to find something cool. He did. πŸ™‚

  4. We were lucky in Virginia, Relic season started as soon as the harvest ended in October/November, and hasn't ended yet. 2nd warmest winter on record.

They are just now liming the fields, still got a few more weeks. An additional bonus was "cover crop" instead of winter wheat. That meant all the stalks were crushed or tilled.

This year, corn. 😡 March is windy too.

  5. Great hunt again! The difference is staggering.

We had the Axiom up here a couple days ago, heck of a machine. πŸ‘ It didn't find anything the Deus wasn't finding, but we only used it for a short time. I followed with the D2 and identified what most of the stuff was, it hit bullets well. I selected a spot where iron and aluminum trash wasn't too heavy and there was potential for good targets.

Personally I don't know how you do it, if I had to dig 2' holes for every target and have most of it be crap, I'd go nuts. πŸ€ͺ You're awe-inspiring. πŸ†I could see it more on a beach than clay or wet ground.

After that experience I appreciate a discriminating VLF even more. 🀣

I think I know the answer to this but I am gonna ask it anyway. Is there anyway to pair wireless earbuds with a Deus 2? I know all the other ways to get the audio, so am not interested in a list of those. Just want to know if there is any way to hunt wirelessly with earbuds. Thanks.

That would be a qualified "nope". πŸ™ You could possibly plug a small Aptx-LL transmitter into the WS6 or WSA II headphones and run it that way with the puck in your pocket after pairing the transmitter with the earbuds, but that's about it. I haven't tried it but it might work.

That's kinda interesting πŸ€” might try it for ya.

Is this from a farm field where fertilizer is commonly used?Β

Yep. Big farm close to my house. Chase and I ran into the farmer yesterday, they're bringing lime for the fields this week. 😡 Not much more time to hunt, but it saves stuff for the future. One limed field we called "The Moon" was limed weeks ago, every step was a puff of dust.

I'm not as high on the Coiltek Nox 5"x10" as a lot of you (particularly you).Β

I'm not as high on it either anymore since I've been using the Deus 2, and find I like the 13" elliptical over the 11"Β  and even the highly touted 9" πŸ˜€ of course were the fields more full of stalks I might not be so happy. I've gone over places I've run with the Deus and found nothing else with the Equinox.

The optimistic side (πŸ€”) is this: do you really want to know that your roasty-toasty ruined coin would have been worth $1000 if only the soil chemicals had left it alone?

It would make the difference of me attempting to halt the bronze disease at the very least, and put it in an air-tite case, but that's about it. Even if it were valuable, I couldn't imagine selling it. πŸ™‚

  8. Cool hunt GB. πŸ‘ I can see why you added some suspense. πŸ™‚

I hope the M-core works out for you, after using that 10x5 I'm surprised you didn't opt for the 900. πŸ€” A friend of mine is using it with success, but it takes some getting used to, especially the expanded range.

Sad but puzzling story, a few days ago I went hunting and dug two toasted IHPs, this one really gets me, the other shows no real details at all:20230308_083519.thumb.jpg.c7f42a5a595f3c5ab2cb6ce8e7626244.jpg

It would have to be an "S", right?

  9. I wrote a few manufacturers telling them about the detecting market and the need for Bone Conduction headphones with low latency capabilities, especially Aptx-LL. They already make them waterproof to a degree.

Seems that most detector companies are moving to 2.4GHz wireless, so I may take up the campaign again 🀣

I'm not a fan of earbuds or over ear headphones, I always want situational awareness when detecting. Bone conduction headphones would be best, but on-ear work ok.

Cool find that vintage sunburst celestial star maybe off of some horse tack. The curved trigger guard looks more like a candle holder part? Nice work!

    strick

    Thanks Strick!

Could be either, for sure these boys loved their shotguns, but it's possible.

I'm not sure if the star is a valuable relic, but I am pretty sure it's horse tack decoration stuff. The verdigris is pretty bad so maybe I'll tumble it before trying brass cleaner, it may come out great just doing that.

Just bumping up reactivity on the D2 when I'm in a patch like that, even with the 13", I'm pretty confident that if I come back with a smaller coil I probably won't find much more. It tends to snag stuff on the edges, and the sweet spot is right under the XP logo just ahead of center.

Wow, great finds again, F350! Of course the coins are to die for, but that star is awesome and looks really, really old. The brass s-shaped thingy reminds me of a trigger guard on a small flintlock pistol or pepperbox. Well done again!

    Thanks!

The "Reaper" program is really working out for me. πŸ™‚ I think Chase found a similar star shaped object close to where I got that one. Most of this was in a small area very close to an old road that no longer exists. We pretty much walked all around it, I just blundered into the spot πŸ€ͺ hope I blunder more here!

Gotta get that Farm Hunting 101 article going, still putting it together in my head. πŸ˜€ A few of the farms I have under my belt have old roads, just have to get to them.

Another great hunt in the books for you, some day the city where you hunt is going to come by and ask you for their history back to put in the museum.

Good luck on your next outing.

Thanks VL, I pretty much plan to leave all this to the counties, hopefully my wishes will be honored. I've got some pretty good records of where I found it all, legally of course πŸ™‚

Farm hunting is quickly coming to an end this year, gotta get going on finding some more yards to hunt and get ready to go to the beaches.

Some nice older and interesting brass fragment pieces you found there. The spoon (from the picture) looks like silver to me. What are you doing finding a Merc at a 1600's field???? πŸ˜‰ Nice hunt.

Haha, just filling in the blanks. Thanks! πŸ˜€

All I need now is a seated something or other, I've dug two Barbers, an SLQ, and a Washington quarter here, maybe I need a Roosevelt too. Really hoping for a Spanish coin.

I believe the spoon might be silver, if it's aluminum it should be a lot more corroded than it is. It doesn't ring like the dime, but I'll test it to find out. It's very thin.

You're knocking them dead there 350.The sunburst or star accouterment piece or whatever its Β purpose may have been is a stellar find in my book.

Thanks Doc! It's been a great season with a bunch of new permissions. A few of my old ones are still producing, and I'm finding a lot more silver than I ever have, even gold. A gold coin still eludes me tho.Β

  15. Thanks GB,

This farm is very old, 1650s or so. It was occupied well into the 1900s, not sure if it made it to the 21st century. Farmers rent the land which pays for the upkeep and taxes.

It was kinda weird being here without Chase, I'm sure he'd have laughed at the capacitor. We have only covered a small amount of this place, I'm hoping to find another hotspot or two next to season as half of the farm is in winter wheat.Β

Dug a couple IHPs two days ago, didn't post them because I couldn't get a date on either. πŸ˜ͺ Lots of them here.

Looking forward to your post! πŸ‘

  16. Very cool short one Cap'n! πŸ‘

Really like the ring, that's one that would disappear into my wife's jewelry box the second she saw it. πŸ˜€

Trying to figure out what the stone is. πŸ€”

Very little trash and some Victorian pull tabs. I wonder what nefarious scenario surrounds the hotel tab... They always have a story. πŸ˜€Β If only they could talk.

  17. Congratulations Dan! πŸ‘

Sure is impressive. I put the 13" on mine and haven't taken it off. Balances well and I can swing it all day. Even with the big coil it doesn't fall over much.

I think I told another user that lining up the RC and coil is easy, lay it on the floor, the "V" in the coil is there to help you line up. Loosen the camlock and lengthen it to what you like, lock it and check. You can make the 13" or 11" coil feel like it's "floating" by shortening the lower a bit, you'll feel it when it's right.

It's also really easy to keep clean.

Great creation, worth every penny. πŸ™‚

there is a video up on You Tube but it is in Dutch so I do not know if anyone would want to watch it or not I sure can not understand what the guy is saying but you can read it if you change it to English sub titles

At least it will give you an idea of what the Audio sounds like

    Β

Nice that he got a chance to play with it, but none of what he does in the video is impressive. Subtitles are only Dutch.

Hopefully you won't take this the wrong way, but Cap'n I suggest researching this site before you post. πŸ™‚ I learned the hard way, just passing the torch. I admit that sometimes I still mess up.
