  1. I'm up for some surgery soon, so I'm getting as much "trigger time" as I can on both the Manticore and the Deus 2 with the new version V3.03. Shame I probably won't have the HF2 coil in my hands before I'm on restriction. 🙄 Went back to the beach at which I was with Chase on Sunday to see what folks left behind on the Memorial Day weekend. First up was the Manticore, today I used the fabulous M9 coil. Last Sunday I used the M8, and expressed my dissatisfaction with it, the coil felt like a brick in the water, falsed on lots of iron, and it was difficult to locate targets. 🫤 Today was wholly different, I nailed every target I came across. I hunted with it knee deep in the water for 5 hours, before low tide and until the wind came up and raised the waves to 1-2'. I would have gone longer if I used my waders today but I wanted to do some dry hunting too so I just wore sandals and shorts. There was another detectorist hunting the dry, so we stayed out of each other's way. I did a little better than he did. Lots of low conductor trash today, even some of the pull tabs were 10-20! 🤯 I've got a gold ring in the past that was an 11, so I run it wide open with no discrimination or notch, just Dankowski settings. Even the bottle caps were off. 🙄 Some were in the 20s. Still, I did well, it was really easy to swing the coil in the water, and man did I have to dig deep for some of this stuff. 3 rings, a tungsten carbide with "Adrienne ❤️ Felipe" on it, a Jostens "Lustrium" high school football ring (Lustrium is chromium and nickel, essentially worthless), and a "Bomb Party Luxe" ring that may be rose gold plated silver according to the BP literature, but has cheap stones. Of interest and to my surprise I dug a 1959 1 Deutsche Mark coin, and a 1950 D 10 Pfennig coin nearby. Got a small piece of bling broken off a ring probably, and 3 small religious beads. The rest is modern coinage. I got the BP ring in the dry, apparently it's a thing where people host parties and sell this stuff. 🤷‍♂️ It's not bad looking but a lot of the plating is worn off exposing the metal underneath, it looks like silver but there's no hallmark for it. It's also too big. Other than a Zincoln or two that's all I got there. I used the D2 with V3.03 but was kinda disappointed by how much it falsed on iron, I only used it for an hour so that's not long enough to evaluate beach performance. It did fairly well in the field, but not so well on the beach. I may have to come up with some new tricks or get used to a new paradigm. 🤔 Good day though, a ring is a ring! 🍀
  2. Well the ring made it back to the owner today, here's a pic of the happy gentleman. 🙂 Nice guy, I'm glad to get it back to him. Random acts like this are great way to reaffirm that there are nice, honest people in the world. At first the Colonel and I thought he was a soldier, from talking to him I learned that he has a career on a higher plane but none the less important. 🙂 I wish him the best of luck and fortune in the future. 🍀
  3. Nice going Lodge! Congrats on the really old coin, that looks like a tough spot but the finds are impressive. 👍 Cool cufflinks!
  4. That's an interesting hunt, I feel your pain about pennies, but I learned my lesson recently with a huge ring find that was a solid penny signal 🙄 Love that M15. 👍
  5. 😬 Thanks Colonel, Historically (pun intended) I've been sort of heavy handed with large cents, it's rather easy to obliterate the details even with a quick wash with water. Since I did get the date, perhaps I'll try. 🤔
  6. There was some rain blowing around this morning, enough to keep me from mowing the lawn. I updated my spare Deus 2 with version 3.03 (still Beta) last night, so I got all my stuff together and went outside. I set up a grid search using two fiberglass poles with ribbons, the landowner told me recently he's going to disc it and plant grass, so I'm on a mission to get as much history out of there as possible. I might ask him if I can detect it once more before he puts down the seed, this spot he bought, about 7 acres, is full of relics dating back to the late 1600s. It's the first field outside my house I detected. It's literally right out front! I searched for 6 hours today, back and forth slowly, while they say V3.03 was just some stuff for the Xtrem Hunter, I'm pretty sure they fixed other stuff as well, because they said "bug fixes". 😏 I'm amazed at the new programming, it takes the D2 to a higher level of precision. It's quiet until it is over something when properly ground balanced, even up to sensitivity 95. This update also did not erase my saved programs! 🥳 I imagine though that if they make changes to finalize it, they probably will erase them. Here's the trash for today, this field is also loaded with buck balls and can slaw, and I'll have to get used to forged iron all over again: There were some pieces of iron that were "iffy", but gave enough good signal on analysis that I dug them. I'll show you why in a bit, I'm glad I did. Got a small bunch of buttons, brass and tombac, a thimble tip, and a small spectacle half. The thing in the center was a 71 solid, and appears to be either a coin or button encased in some iron. I'll have to try to chip some of the iron away to find out. I also got a very small piece of silver, apparently from a silver thimble, I hope I can find the rest of it: But of course I'm not done yet, 😅 I got an iron signal interspersed with 80s and 90s, thought it was just falsing big iron, and dug this: An 1827 large cent, a Coronet Head. I was happy to get as much date as I did! The loop in the "2" is what identified it for me. There was some iron close to the cent, so I'm not surprised I missed it when I was less experienced. I'm pretty sure this new programming helped as well, so I'll be going over more of this field this fall. I like my other detectors, but the Deus 2 is getting very refined, and I can't wait for the HF2 coil! It should be here soon. 🙏 🍀
  7. Ghound gets the gold!!! 🥳 Great hunt, I envy you the parks. None here. Congrats! Lots of jewelers will look at it for you for free, and may even XRF it. Cool deer pic, they never get close where I hunt because they're always being hunted. 😬
  8. Finally got a chance to meet up with Chase at a local beach, I was going to water hunt hoping for more rings, brought the Manticore with the M8. I wore waders to get out further in the water, low tide was soon after we got there. It was 46 degrees when I got there, but 46 in the spring is not the same as 46 in the winter. 🤔 The water temperature is 68 now so it's just comfortable enough to go in and lose some jewelry! Chase did a little better than me, the river was sanded back in from a replenishment, most of my old spot was heavily sanded over the rocks and pebbles. 🥲 Guess it's fresh drops for the summer. Using the M8 coil was no treat, personally I really don't like it. It's too small and does not have the same water dynamic as the fabulous M9, it falses more easily on iron, and feels like I'm pushing a brick around in the water. As I recall I didn't like it very much at a trashy iron site either. I find the M15 much easier to work with! With sensitivity at 29, I was able to find very deep stuff, but always had difficulty locating it despite bringing my bigger and heavier Stainless scoop. 😵 Pinpointing is great on the M9 and M15, but the M8 seemed to have issues, probably because it was harder to find with the scoop in the murky water. Here's the trash, I don't take too many prisoners in the water, and threw out about 4 bottle caps: And now the finds: 15 coins, $1.83, a possibly silver earring with stones in it, a small butterfly pendant, and a Samsung Galaxy S24 cell phone. 🤯 Waterlogged unfortunately, it will take some time to dry out. No rings were found by me, but it was a good time other than all the people that showed up during the day, and the people with Jet Skis that created a constant wave action. 🤬 🍀
  9. Hi George, It's not the easiest thing to do, but it works well. Go to https://www.xpmetaldetectors.com/en/ in a browser on a relatively new computer with a black or blue USB A port. If the plastic block in the port is white the updater may not work. There are other USB colors, white is the only one that might be too old. Go to information/Updates and click on it, select Deus II V1.0 - EN. This will open the updater. The updater is all graphical, so you have to follow the steps. It will work only on a Windows or Apple computer, laptop or desktop. You will get a choice of which device to update, and what update you want. Remember also to update the headphones! You will have to use the 3 wire connector for the big remote, and the single USB wire for the WS6 and the headphones, WSA II or WSA II XL. 🍀
  10. Well you'll be upgrading to V3.03 now... 🤔 If you were at V3.02 it won't delete your programs. Kind of hope this is a tell as to preserving your saved stuff, but if they make major changes it will probably erase your saved programs. Actually, I think @George Kinsey is the King of cut silver on this forum, I'll take Court Jester 🤣 🃏
  11. Thanks Redneck, This is the second gold ring I've returned out of the 6 I've found so far this year. I hardly think I'm a saint 😇 but I'll take the good feeling of honor. Both were the biggest and heaviest rings I've ever found, I never imagined I'd top the first one. I don't ask for or expect any remuneration. Still waiting for it to be delivered, I hope it doesn't get "lost". I didn't insure it because of the small package, that would make it obvious.
  12. Thanks RVP, I'll be updating this post or doing another when he gets the ring back, so stay tuned. 🤞 I'm hoping it will get there. For some reason it went South before it goes North. Heading out for another beach hunt tomorrow or early next week with waders and a stronger scoop.
  13. I know the feeling, two of my close associates were White's loyalists, one owns a Deus 2, the other a Manticore. I have both the Deus and the Manticore because I know nothing about White's, I may have had one 20+years ago, but I don't remember which one. They seem like venerable machines. You might want to take a stab at V3.02 to spare yourself a learning curve, but you still might get a curve ball when they finalize it. I can help you with some solid reliable programming if you are just using stock programs. 🙂 Simply PM me. I'm testing my V2 stuff on V3, so far so good, sorta.
  14. Great hunt, Zincoln! That's quite a haul, wish I had some parks around, that's one thing I don't have 😅 Awesome you got all the metals, the D2 is good at finding them 😏 Welcome to the "Dark Side" 🤣
  15. Thanks Brad, He lost it last September visiting a friend there. Said he looked all around, resigned himself to the thought he'd never see it again. 😏 A ring that heavy sinks fast. He's gonna see it early next week, sent it back to him yesterday. 🙂 I agree that any detector (or even a stick) would have found that, It was on a section of the beach that was most likely searched too. Thing is that it gave a signal exactly like a Zincoln, some people skip them. They skip nickels on this beach too, I usually find a lot of them. I thought of your challenge on my Outer Banks post 🤣 ironic find.
  16. Thanks Joe, I'm sure you've found more weight in other grades? It was quite the shocker to find it. Heaviest Zincoln I've ever dug. 😅 It will be on its way back to the owner tomorrow. 🙂
  17. XP Deus II or Minelab Manticore. You don't need a $10,000 detector in that sort of environment.
  18. @Ridge Runner and @JCR, The Colonel and I have both contacted the owner, Texas A&M has a great way to return lost rings. More soon. 🙂 He was quite shocked to be contacted out of the blue. 😅
  19. Thanks, I was about to go home. Decided to look one last place, and then did the third beach too. 😅
  20. Could be, but more likely a bent piece of farm stuff. 🤔
  21. Thanks Skull, I'm hoping it's not the biggest or last. 😅 Maybe I'll find one that I can wear and keep. 🙏 Apparently I'm on a roll this year, that's #6. Never thought I'd find any. 🤔
  22. I'd like to thank you as well IBMe, for staying on top of these videos, while none of them particularly nail the best aspects of the upgrade, it is interesting to have them try. 👍
  23. This post is for @Lodge Scent, and anyone else who still has time to do some relic hunting. Traditionally I have used a highly modified relic program that has scored some incredible stuff for the last few years, those who follow me know what I'm writing here 😏 Lodge is thinking of updating to V3.02, and I thought, "well hell, I'm retired and can go out there right now for a bit!" I grabbed the trusty D2 with the 13", my Ranger Shovel and MI-6, and went outside across the cul de sac to a field that is mowed but not planted, I'm getting a new neighbor eventually. He gave me permission to continue saving all the history until he grasses it in. It's where I first found lots of buttons and cut pistareens. I've been out there many times, also grid searched it heavily with my old Equinox 600 and the Deus a bit. Again I noticed I could turn up Sensitivity to 95, 97 was a bit more bump prone, but I only got small blips as I scrubbed the coil through the stiff cover crop stalks. I was fine with that, if it was making no noise at all I'd have to keep checking it with my shovel. 😅 My Relic program under V2 was really tight, I almost never dug any iron. Not so with V3.02 🫤 It wasn't bad but I did get some falsing stuff: Particularly the curved piece top left, it insisted on being a 75 until I dug it out, then it disappeared, and then only ID'd as an 04. 😵 I switched from High Square to PWM and back again, and it seemed much better. 🤔 Got rid of the issue. Again, this is a Beta version, and should be thought of as such. I have no idea why that happened, wish I had something to tell XP. I did switch between my beach program and relic to verify some iron, so that might be what caused it. Aluminum was again a pain, but I found I hadn't put Audio Filter at 5 so I did that and at least the large aluminum gave me brassy tones after that. Under this version my MI-6 doesn't always make a sound in the headphones when it comes on, so that's something too. 🤔 Anyway I got two good finds in 2 hours: A brass saddle pin the Hoover Boys call a "Throckmorton" 😏 because of its suggestive shape, I have found 2 of these here but this one is complete. It still has the clamping pins. The other find shocked the heck out of me, I got an 85 with an iron tone, after the first dig it settled down to an 82 and stayed there with no iron tone: Yet another cut pistareen, the "II" denoting a 2 Real is clearly visible. No date, but the reverse has detail too: This version seems buggy, but I'm sure they will get it straight, so I'd say if you know your Deus you could upgrade, but be prepared to have the changes to the changes cause a little bit of trouble. 🍀
  24. I'm sure that is why the good Colonel offered to help! I've already initiated the process from my end as well. I sure wouldn't hold back with a soldier from any branch. 🤔 Same for the Masonic ring I dug recently, I've found nearly 10 grand in purchase price of gold rings in the past 4 months. Glad I got to make people happy with it. 🙂
  25. Thanks Lodge, I want to get out for a relic hunt, may hit a field in front of my house this week. Relic is a very important program to me, just not this time of year 😅 If you upgrade I'll be very interested if you get out first to read your impressions. 🙂👍
