  1. Well this wasn't one of my better hunts there for sure, but this farm hasn't ever been detected. The owner is a family friend, he catered our wedding. It's funny, people still talk about that! Over 100 people, a band and free booze all day. πŸ˜€ It's an old part of the county, the highway used to run on the farm side of the house. There are spots where anything is possible, from colonial to Victorian. Lots of beer cans and steel too! 🀣 I really appreciate the time you took to put these settings together. It's the first time I've used a program on the Deus 2 that "just works". Thank you. I'm getting curious about why this program is so accurate on iron πŸ€” could we be discriminating some harmonic or response that eliminates the falsing?
  2. Thanks, Rick. When you retire your life flip flops a bit, you find that detecting on weekdays is better than on weekends. Took my wife out to a buffet to celebrate the Trime πŸ˜€ Think I might have had too much MSG. 🀣 We both felt like crap all day. I take her out to dinner every time I get silver or gold, it racks up the "Metal Detecting Points". Feeling much better today, time to get out there and cut the grass and go to the dump 🀣 more points! 😁
  3. Thanks! At least the good Cap'n slayed some silver. πŸ˜€ I'm just showing its use in other situations. It is kinda trying to swing the detector for a long time without getting a good signal at all, but real time detecting tests are by far the best.
  4. I don't think the aluminum problem will ever be solved, Chase and I discussed that a bit last weekend. I too use SF particularly with the Equinox on iron, but I couldn't be more thrilled with the accuracy of this program on iron. I won't be using SS much in this place, we've found many colonial buttons which of course all come into the aluminum range. I'd hate to miss any, so digging aluminum trash will be common here, even bits of junk metal to get a Tombac or two. The only trick that seems to work well is either lifting, or on the Equinox, looking at the depth gauge. I'm not too good with the Deus' interpretations of depth yet. If a target is 6-12" according to the Equinox, it's usually a safe dig if it disappears after lifting the coil. Not always. 😡
  5. Gotta say CPT_GhostLight got me really interested in Rattleheads' Silver Slayer for the Deus 2. I mostly hunt old farms this time of year, we don't have parks in my county, but we do have one beach with a parking lot. πŸ˜€ Went there this morning, wasn't feeling too good but decided to power through. 😡 Stayed there about 2 hours, checked the beach for grins and only got one Zincoln, I was surprised to get that. Came back up to this little parking lot that only holds about 15 cars at best, it's full of pull tabs and flattened aluminum bottle caps. It also has lots of bottle caps. 🀬 I thought the SS program would be perfect here, I'd maybe even find some lost jewelry. Got 54 cents in modern coins, and relished the accuracy of the program. It really works well, had I put it back to original with the upper disc at 87 or 88 I probably would have missed those annoying flat aluminum caps. They came in from 86-88. The memorials were coming up in the low 90s today for some reason. I now see the value of that setting in public places! It was so nice to not hear all that crap, and not have to dig any falsing iron. Next I went to the farm I've been hunting to hit an iron patch. I was hoping to eke something out of it. The patch is about the size of a small barn, iron everywhere, I think Chase managed to get one silver out but that has been it. I went back and forth over the patch for a couple hours, it sure was a beautiful day. Had I felt better it would have been a joy. Silver Slayer allows iron to sound somewhat, and it's always accurate. Aluminum is almost not an issue, except that I still didn't expand disc as mentioned. 🀬 I dug some, and any time I tried another setting, which wasn't much, I immediately got more. Here's my take for today, illustrative as opposed to impressive. I did manage to get two "D" buckles, probably the most exciting but boring find you can get relic hunting. You get a high tone and an ID in the 90s, and go "aww" when you dig it up. Got one saddle rein guide with a bit of decoration on it. Trash was very light, except for the heavy zinc padlock and the odd brass thingy that both were in the 90s, as well as the twisted copper or brass. Large can bits still made it there now and again, but no false iron. Wow! I think this is a very valid and worthwhile program to set up on the Deus 2.
  6. Great stuff again Cap'n. πŸ‘ Spent the day messing with the SS program myself, my finds were not as spectacular. However, I'm searching a very trashy part of a very old place. I did manage to also find a padlock πŸ˜€ Cool silvers, doggo got you a great answer. πŸ‘ I really think @Rattlehead has something here for cherry picking the good stuff! For sure iron is rejected very well. (I thought invoking his attention is justified) πŸ‘ Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention. I don't follow any YouTubers but I do bookmark his videos, have for a while. That's a pretty cool knife too. πŸ™‚
  7. If they're smaller than a dime, congrats. πŸ† I'll Google the suckers so you don't have to find pics πŸ˜€ it's not a stretch to imagine Trimes in Texas, but it sure is in Florida, unless you can get permission to hunt some very old property, which as Joe D wrote, is difficult to find. I'm out in the fields right now. πŸ˜€ Not a great day.
  8. Hmmm... Thanks! For that I might want to build upon a program that looks a little deeper, like Relic, or sensitive something. I imagine gold has a deeper sink rate in my relic areas πŸ€” Honestly I've never found gold with the Deus 2, it's probably just circumstance that it's always the Equinox that hits it. The gold chain story from VA Beach was an eye opener, so I created a program based on General that hits everything, including tiny chains. Far too wacko to post, it hasn't proved itself as I set it up too late for the beach.
  9. Thanks for the thumbs up MN! My main focus isn't so much bragging rights, (πŸ˜€) but to show folks that if you're lucky enough to get good real estate, a little good will goes a long way. I never imagined my retirement would be this much fun and rewarding with camaraderie, history, and treasure. After all the crazy stuff I did in my younger years, looking back isn't as important or exciting as looking forward. I almost wish I took this up a long time ago.
  10. Thanks Joe D! Trimes should be everywhere! The 1851 saw 5 million alone. Imagine all the pocket holes back then! I never kept stuff in my pockets as a kid because of the secondhand clothes. πŸ˜€ I couldn't screenshot the whole table, but this should give y'all an idea of how many there were, they stopped in 1873 with only 600 proofs. They probably wouldn't sink fast either. πŸ˜€ That kinda goes back and forth, when he first came here he managed to get a silver almost every time. He does manage to beat me often, I got a 1690 cob, and he got one from the 1650s. For the distance he has to travel and the company I don't begrudge him anything. πŸ™‚ Same would apply to any invited visitor. πŸ‘ We've considered coming to your neck of the sand, might someday but y'all have to clean up the mess Ian made. I have a friend on Pine Island who has always wanted me to visit, it's gonna be a few years before he is back 😡 that's a longer drive. Honestly if I could afford it I'd lend him my RV for a while. Meantime for beaches I'll be giving the more Northern beach YouTubers a headache for a while, got my eye on a closer premium place next spring. 🀣 I hope Doggo comes to VA Beach again, if Chase can get here early enough we could make it a day trip, I'll drive the rest of the way. πŸ‘ You're welcome anytime, but remember the best hunting here is during cold hunting season. πŸ₯Ά
  11. Too easy, don't know why I didn't download the photo and "lens" it. 😡 https://www.etsy.com/listing/770340918/antique-picture-button-man-friday-button In case this link goes kaput, here is the text: Antique Picture Button, Man Friday Button, Robinson Crusoe Button, Antique Character Button, Antique Brass Button Here is the photo: I presume this seller knows what they have, but the dog soldier bit is much more interesting. πŸ˜€ Here's another: https://www.rubylane.com/item/456929-RL-2365/Button-Large-Late-19th-C-Crusoex27s
  12. Here's the thing. From 1851 to 1853, Trimes were 75% silver. After that they were 90%. In this picture the two Trimes and the seated half dime were 16/17/18 on the Equinox, despite the dime and 1857 Trime being 90% silver. I've had a mercury dime do that too. 😡 To make it more fun, the 1852 piece in the center was a 20/22. πŸ˜€ I do not know why they don't sound off around 30, but that's been my experience so far, and why I always dig a 16/17/18. Yeah sometimes it's junk, or a really nice pull tab, but I'll dig 1,000 of them to get one of these! 🀣
  13. I think it's the addition of the "18" that gets ya one. πŸ˜€ Good luck RVP!
  14. Had a similar occurrence yesterday, I didn't properly charge the Deus. πŸ€” Must be a bit of bad juju out there, but we both made it through. πŸ˜€ You are by far the most disciplined and thorough detectorist I've seen. πŸ‘ An inspiration to the novice and seasoned! I have all my detecting stuff crammed into a corner my wife eyes with disdain, but I don't have a basement. 😡 Great hunt, cool dead fish photo! Always good to have the ol' cell phone on hand for more than just a source of EMI. 🀣
  15. Now that is something that would knock my socks off, wow! Looks to be almost the size of a half dollar. 😳 Phoenix buttons, gold coins, buckles... All as unusual as the settlers who made the original trip. Bravo. πŸ‘ We got nothing on ya here on the east coast! Good one, strick! πŸ†
  16. Thanks VL! You're always saying I should be faithful to the Equinox, couldn't agree more. It's a matter of interpreting the "fruit salad" of IDs that will guarantee success along with digging a lot of crap πŸ˜€ there's no shame at all in sticking with what you know, and in my case, can afford. πŸ€” Apparently the Equinox is still the big "game changer". πŸ™‚
  17. Haha, and then felt guilty and left the area. I only came back when you moved out of it and I really didn't find much else πŸ˜€ I was curious to know if you found the spot, you do have a "tell" of sorts... No worries, I have yet to polish up my grid search stakes. 😁 I couldn't have been more thrilled when you got that 1650 Cob at the other place. There are other areas opening up, I have a lot of skill sharpening ideas for the future, even an old detector shootout. Unless I get more permissions I have to leave something, even for me! Regardless of the acreage there are only a few really productive spots within them. I appreciate the company and knowledge. I still have to find that old barge landing, and I'm thinking of knocking on some doors now that it's getting to be ok to do so. I was going to talk to a farmer I saw yesterday, but my wife told me it wouldn't be a good idea to talk to that individual. πŸ€” OnX Hunt is a valuable resource, and she is my go to because she's a walking "who's who" here. Looks to me like you did quite well, got the only "real" coin that day, and those round buttons are awesome. πŸ‘ the "unrecognizable round thing" is some sort of tack stud, I got one with the leather attached, and another yesterday. Thanks for coming down! πŸ™‚
  18. Thanks Cal, what a fitting tribute to the "When life gives you lemons" cliche. πŸ˜€ I do have some lemon juice, I'll give that a try. πŸ‘ I really thought this hunt was going to be a disaster. 😳
  19. Thanks Cap'n, I specifically mentioned the SS program because of you. I'm also thinking of naming the spiral search that found me the second spoon and buckle fragment the "CPT_GhostLight Maneuverβ„’ " remembering a few of your older posts. πŸ˜€ I see you second guessed the upper notch as well, I wondered. πŸ€” And less conservatively than me! You devil. πŸ‘ I am sad that I didn't find the Trime with the Deus, but I have plans to use it in the trashier areas of my permissions. I wonder if it "sees past" the iron or just supresses it, an interesting challenge. Honestly that's what I set out to do initially. However, this is yet another example of why I am never going to be without my trusty Equinox 600 and 10x5. I am intrigued by your mention of a "Gold Grabber" program, I'll even let you have the trademark. 🀣 If you get a chance I hope you post it.
  20. They minted millions of Trimes. They should be everywhere! πŸ˜€ This one is lower value being a first issue year, 5 million. (Thanks GB!) You have better odds of finding an "O" mint one which would be more valuable. Old parks and churches, definitely farms it seems πŸ€” I don't get much silver at all but when I do it's awesome. I think, judging from my childhood in the 60s when I always had holes in my pockets that this is by far the easiest American coin to lose. The problem is its ID in the pull tab range, and of course its size which turn the tables on us. 🀣
  21. πŸ˜€ I know you have a few, probably have a drawer just for them. Thanks kac. I guess the Detecting Gods (πŸ€”) offered up some "provenience" for my error in discipline. 🀣 I just dug up that fancy word 😏
  22. About 4-6", it had a piece of perforated metal in the hole with it, so I got 16/17/18 - iron. I found the perforated piece later because chasing a Trime in dirt takes a while. πŸ˜€ Since my first one I always dig that ID pattern, usually junk. Other old silver hits that pattern sometimes too. The reverse is identical, it's in the same orientation as a coin. At first I thought it was a reale! I was able to find a 2 1/2 cent pool hall token similar to this, so maybe it's "trouble in river city" adjusted for inflation 😏 haven't found the exact one yet. I'm really nervous about cleaning it more, used Wright's silver polish and a little water, that's it. Soil here is very unkind. 🀬 There is no mintmark, wish there was like the "S" on that '49 Roosevelt I dug recently. It's two and a half now, Got a half one last spring. 😁 Yeah, I've got to start including some sort of ruler with the strange stuff, those levers won't fit in a Riker case, they're heavy and about 4" long. I was tired when I got home and didn't clean them out, they will go in my large junk box. Maybe I'll look tomorrow. Heavy nickel plated brass. I hunted the place totally at random, I'm hoping to keep it producing for a while. I'm sure there's a lot more cool stuff there. πŸ™‚ Thanks!
  23. Sucks, doesn't it? I've had it all my life, didn't know it until about 10 years ago. Thought everyone had that problem. πŸ˜€ Good thing it never became an issue while I was in the Army. 😡 I use Diltiazem because I don't often need it for my heart, despite issues with that. It's a calcium channel blocker that opens up blood vessels supposedly helps and for me no side effects. Luckily walking around swinging a detector and digging is strenuous enough to keep me warm. I typically will not go out if the temperature is in the 20s. Doesn't get that low mostly here in VA.
  24. 🀣 You've been killing me with Roosevelt dimes for a year now man, payback is rough. 😁 I now only have one of them. 😡 Like you say, ya gotta get your coil over it!
