I've been searching the various dirt roads here , that are all very soft right now. Rain moving in as I type. Mud is better than ice so I'm good.

I don't think I'll have enough time to cover the whole fairgrounds before moving on. I just clocked a couple more hours on it though.   Still have the perimeter trail and .......so much more.

It's funny how a place you think isn't all that big is... Well, big. 😵 Some of the "small" places I'm hunting still can't be covered in a short time. 😀

I'm lucky to have the proximity and time, I usually won't detect until 2 days after a rain.

Personally I use the SENSI FT iron volume default setting at

I keep it at 7 or even 6. Remember that Gary Blackwell likes to hear something in the headphones.

I also use Relic a lot, and sometimes get tired of the loud noise on a good target. It also falses much more on iron than Tekkna does.

It's kinda like the biggest fish in the lake. When you catch it , there is still the biggest fish in the lake.

Even after you and Chase have scoured the place....there's always gonna be more ! LOL 🤔

Do they all get turned over in the fall ?

It's kind of exciting this year, the farmer mentioned he's going to "rip" the fields, he said the "ripper" digs 14 inches down.

Remains to be seen, most farmers don't do it because of regulations. 🤔

If so, I'll find out just what the "never hunted out" myth is all about. I have lots of places that are hunted out.

Wish I had time to hit some of the farms around me, but I am glad to know that you are out there saving our history.

When I get back to the states I am going to try to hit at least one good place, but for now I just have to stick it out a little longer in Australia. I think that the bug zappers that we use in the states are causing reincarnation of flies and other bugs down here. That is the only explanation I have for all the bugs here.

Good luck and stay safe on your next hunt.

    Thanks VL,

It wasn't a big deal for sure, but it told me that Chase and I found most of the stuff. I'm glad I got one more thing.

Again I was pressed for time, not only rain but a guy stopped by with his Equinox 800 with a 15" coil wanting me to show him how to use it. 🙄

I told him this field was not for an inexperienced user, not only to keep him from nighthawking it, but also that the 15 was way too big. I showed him a few things but I think it was going in one ear and out the other. 😀

Sorry about the bugs, they'll all be waiting for you here when you get back. A lot of them hatched out here this past week 😵

I used reactivity ( SENSI FT default setting ) as suggested in the vid

Up to now I have only 2 hours with Tekkna . Looking forward to use it at other locations ... 🙂

Try lowering reactivity to 2 and 1.5. the Deus is so fast you'll still hit good stuff, and some things deeper. I've found lowering reactivity picks up more targets.

WHAT??? I just updated to 2.0 but I didn't know that this was part of it. Do I have to now do a complete new TID chart?

I'm not finding that big a difference in IDs, I think you'll find that pennies were differentiated a bit, but otherwise silver is where it was.

If you're a relic hunter this is great for home sites.

Well Bob, that leaves me out!  😂.  Aluminum is basically what plagues us on our beaches when you bring up the topic of junk.
And where I land hunt at the Seminole Indian War site is not really riddled with scrap iron.  Does this mean TEKNNA was not meant for me?  🤣

Yeah it's probably not the best for the beach, not having any beach parameters. 😀 I probably would have dug less junk if I wasn't specifically looking for gold jewelry.

If you know your good IDs, it would be good at any old site, it's specifically good for finding small coins.

  8. Got out today despite the threat of rain to see if I could tease any more jewelry out of the site where I found the big silver ring.

The day started out nice and warm, about 55, so not bad. Ended up with rain late in the day, Today I used Tekkna and Relic, Tekkna where it was really trashy.

I want to mention that while Tekkna is a great program, you only dig when you get a consistent signal, it's probably not the best when the place is loaded with aluminum and brass, and molten bits of metal.

Since I was using it to find any more jewelry items, I ended up digging a horrific amount of junk:

However, no iron at all. 🙂

Finds were still pretty cool, and I kept my silver streak going.

    20240304_195431.thumb.jpg.eb45acfa34ea19811c3115d4adc06f48.jpg

Ended up with an assortment of the really old and new, especially the 1906 IHP and the 1946 Roosevelt dime. Got some wheats, some interesting tags, and a couple of thimbles.

I did get one piece of jewelry, this Sterling collar stud, this is the front:

  9. Nice hunt Ghound!

NC is right about the valve stem cover, I found about 20 of them on the landing near my house, then found a Model T in the woods 🤣 my avatar is a hubcap.

Hard to be sure, but at first glance your bullet shell looks like a .45/70.

The Tootsie truck is cool! Bet there's a lot more stuff there for you to find. 👍

I'd say the cone is probably a hubcap of some sort.

Thanks very much F350 for sharing these vids , Tekkna is now my favourite program and I feel just like I have a new detector in my hands .. 🙂

    Thank you! 🙂

It really does sniff stuff out. I still prefer Relic in big fields with little junk, but get that program with the 9" in lots of iron, and it really shines. It's not that great where there is a lot of brass and aluminum junk, but I can see why the European detectorists would love it. 👍 It's a great tool nonetheless for me.

What level of reactivity was in use when you detected that coin at 11"?

Well , there you go again . A couple of "Sons of the Fields Full of History"

Nice day on the permissions !   🤯  ( is there a green with envy emoji ?)

I bet you WILL find the name of the original owner of that medallion too .. maybe even return it to descendants ?

    Thanks RVP,

I'm going to try to find out who owned it, hope I can find the missing pieces, but if the chains holding them are iron it might be difficult. The farmer that owns the field should know something about it.

  12. I didn't comment on the last hunt but this is for both of them.

Incredible! 🏆 Obviously the best example of how useful a PI, and a lot of digging is at the beach. 👍

Great to see those 100 year old coins coming out! Never would have imagined that other than I got one a while back, but I guess a lot of sand has been removed by the surf. 🤔

Too bad the silver ring is so crusty, can it be cleaned up?

    F350,

Thank you for checking out the horseshoe meter.

Have you (or any other D2 owners) hunted at a nail infested site with a very low iron bias, and started getting signals that gave a good nonferrous tone and a low nonferrous ID, but it turned out to be a ferrous object?

Yes, on huge iron targets like that 12 pound solid shot cannonball I dug almost 2 feet deep 🤯

It was a solid 85, every way possible, a common number that comes up when you're over a really big chunk of iron, like plow parts, kettles, axe heads, hammers. Usually I'll skip those but I was really curious, especially when I got down to a foot. 85 is in the penny range, and some older silver.

I'm glad I dug that one, but I retrieved it a few weeks later 😏

  14. Wellllll, went to Culpeper, actually Kelly's Ford in Fauquier County, but close enough. Cool Civil war site but not in the thick of things.

Sadly but not sadly, the ground had little to no mineral content, it was nasty sticky gray clay instead of red. It was really easy to find anything that was in the ground, which wasn't much. 🙄

The horseshoe meter was accurate all the time, as were the tones. Got fooled by one square nail, it was 50/50 iron and NF, I'll dig those.

As written before, when a target disappears upon lifting, it's usually good. A lot of stuff was close to the top, that gray clay doesn't allow much to sink.

On the D2 you can analyze aluminum two ways, it will either give a distorted "brassy" tone in full tones, or it will still be there you lift the coil a foot over it or more and give you a pure tone. Even Relic has this feature.

Well no carbon fiber shaft! I will be purchasing one next 🙂

The only way to know a Deus 2 coil shaft is carbon fiber is a "CF" in a circle on the back side. 🙂 They don't "look" like carbon fiber.

In another thread, you said, "I've often seen the reverse where I will get a solid and loud 85, and dig a cannonball or an axe head"? In that scenario, I'm wondering if the FE/CO meter will clearly indicate that the target is ferrous. Granted, you probably want to dig those targets, but let's say the D2 is falsing on a nail. Would the D2's FE/CO meter indicate ferrous?

Going to find out some things today, going to Culpeper. 🙂

I'll switch to the meter from XY to the horseshoe, maybe get some screen shots.

There should be some cannonballs there 🤔 Also it's the worst ground Virginia has.

Another great hunt my friend!   That button was the keeper of the day....👍

    Thanks Colonel,

I'm mostly partial to buttons myself, if for nothing other than their uniqueness and researching them later 🙂 surgically pulling silver coins out of all that junk showed me that I'm really getting to know my detector.

Nice hunting again and glad for the saves.

Good luck on your next hunt, stay safe out there.

    Thanks VL,

I was just going to look around there for a little while, but the coins kept me going. There is another permission just down the road that is very similar with trash.
