  1. This is an interesting development. I guess single frequency isn't dead after all . So all of us who kept our single frequency and selectable single frequency detectors are not so behind the curve after all. Thank you Minelab for validating us. HA! Mike
  2. Badger, did you ever see....whats his name....Old California....i forget his name....anyway, he put the CZ box under the arm but put the faceplate in a box on top so you could still see the meter and use the pinpoint button. Made a nice looking easy swing unit......Paul...Paul (CA) is his name. He did some really good mods on the CZ. To me...the F75 LTD was a good replacement for the CZ series. HH Mike
  3. I'm just a pirate. When I find a silver coin it just goes into the back pocket of my jeans and I'll wash it off under the facet when I get home. Then I'll coon-finger it for the rest of the day, take it to work for show and tell and then toss it into the silver drawer with the others and occasionally sit down with the drawer and coon-finger them all again, remembering where I found them, or trying too, and noticing they are getting a little blacker than last time I pulled them out. All the others just go into a tub for cleaning and cashing in on some rainy day. HH Mike
  4. Chuck, That has pretty much been why my "buy and try" have been used machines several years out from their release dates, with a few exceptions here and there where I knew I'd most likely need the warranty of a new detector, and the itch wouldn't let me wait. But I get where you are coming from. My first Xterra 70 purchase was a new one and less than a month after I bought it and a extra coil, they came out with a two coil package for less money that included the coil I just bought. Man I was mad about that. Xterra's are a money pit anyway and that really sunk home the lesson. If I recall right, a lot of people got upset over the Xterra release...X 30 and X50 and then out of the blue the X70.....ticked off the X50 buyers who thought they were buying the top Xterra and now couldn't get the normal Minelab premium on their resale. I never buy new Minelabs anymore and luckily never been interested enough to get into the multi-IQ offerings until the Manticore came out. And I'll wait several more years before I scratch that itch. But anyway...I feel for you. Best thing to do is identify why you are buying what you are buying before you buy it. "buy and try" or "own it". Good luck. Mike
  5. Yep that was the issue. I re-subscribed and the archives are available now. Mike
  6. I guess my subscription expired with the December issue and that is why I can't see the archives now when I log in. oh well. Be funny to see these selling for $3 bucks each next to the True West and Frontier mags at the antique shops. HH Mike
  7. The worst part is they took down the archives, too. HH Mike
  8. I guess the only time it really matters is if you have something in the classifieds. I don't like selling to someone that isn't part of the treasure hunting community, if not here then somewhere else where i can see their reputation, not necessarily as a buyer but how they interact on their home forum(s). Most of my metal detectors were bought and sold on the used market during my buy and try days and I backed out of some deals just because I either couldn't verify who they were or they didn't seem right to me during the communication. But then again. If someone is just joining to buy.....you would want to sense of who they are and the best way to do that is reading their posts. So I'm 60/40 about it. I think I would prefer a post limit to PM vs being wide open. My nickel. I enjoy your forum, Steve and visit most every day, although I don't log into it every day. HH Mike
  9. I haven't watched any manticore videos yet. Still waiting for the operating manual to be released. I think the target trace screen will be a plus but will it size targets? tiny looks tiny, medium looks medium? I'm also really wanting to know if the audio will match the target size....will tiny targets sound tiny? Will I be able to hear the target's characteristics? Will a tiny dense target sound dense as compared to something with the same id but less dense. Probably will only be able to use a DD coil so that will inherently limit fine audio discrimination but maybe they have overcome it. Won't know much until I see the manual. Anyway.....nice to have something new coming out that I'm actually interested in. HH Mike
  10. I've always kind of liked the Tesoro Cortes all metal mode. It has an overshoot null that makes it easy to tell when you come off target. You get the normal ramp up in threshold but as soon as the signal peaks and the ramp down starts the threshold nulls until one of two things happens; the threshold resets, or another target is detected. It can be handy when there is a bunch of targets. Its basically a flawed design but it can be useful at times and I spent a lot of time with it over the years and just accepted it as a feature. HH Mike
  11. I would say this group is now totally blind as to their condition. They should have left all together as a group. It can only end badly from this point forward. There is no happy ending if they stay and mine any more.
  12. If I was doing it again for the first time and had a $500 budget...I'd probably go with the Nokta Impact Pro Pack. If you call around you can get it for your budget. Its a great detector and you can do just about everything with it. Good luck. HH Mike
  13. Hi Ben, You should buy a metal detector and join us. All I want to see/experience/hear is the object's density as compared to a standard, with an audio output that tells me how close the signal response is to the standard. HH Mike
  14. Guess who has an Arrow in the mailbox waiting for him to get off work? My F75 does! HA. HH Mike
  15. Hi George, I came across this old post. You know, I did get a Gold Kruzer in 2019 and it did turn out to be a very good jewelry hunter. I consider it a key tool in my jewelry hunting tool box. Funny looking back at what I thought then vs what I know now. Did you ever do a write up? HH Mike
  16. Regards F75...Tom Dankowski reported almost an 1/8 of an inch depth reduction between non-DST vs DST units in his mineral free test bed dirt which equates to the difference between 12" or 11-7/8" on a dime. No effect on a nickel on my experience. The confusion really came from what setting really turned DST on. Was it 91 or 90? Was the operating manual right or wrong? Only reason I have a F75LTD is because of DST as I couldn't use it otherwise. The issue with not having a control available means you have to own other detectors that do have the feature/control when you run into the situations that require the feature. But then again, if you don't know what you don't know, then you don't care. Until the moment that you do care and realize your model doesn't have it. Hey Carl....any chance you know those passwords and key strokes to unlock the VX3? HH Mike
  17. F44.....sheesh.....maybe one of the engineers bought one and decided to fix the audio.
  18. Iron bias is simply how much discrimination do you to apply to ferrous signals. If you ever used a Whites model like XLT, DFX or V3/V3i that had a "bottle cap reject" filter....that is an adjustable iron bias. If your detector had an algorithm or special program for flat iron, that would also be a type of iron bias. Its a useful feature as it allows the operator to determine how the iron signals will be filtered/discriminated. I expect Nokta will fundamentally offer an adjustable bottle cap reject feature with a little more complexity since it will have to work across multiple frequency selections. HH Mike
  19. I'm interested in the Legend, however remembering the accelerated Impact, Multi-Kruzer, Anfibio Multi rollout will have me waiting a little while too, so I could end up with the Legend II or Legend III or whatever the final version ends up being. I have no need or desire to jump on the first SMF model they release out the door. I'll wait until the dust settles. I'm not really an early adopter anyway. Looking forward to reading what everyone thinks about it after its released though. HH Mike
