  1. First time for the Big en in this field. With very little fresh drops last couple years the coins have been diminishing. First time I broke $3 in there this year. Only 2 shallow coins (same hole) the rest from about 5 to 7.5 inches. Trash is getting scarce too. I've taken everything out of this field threw the years Except Gold. Had to call the hunt, temp on the field got between 90 & 100. So not wanting to join the buried, I bailed. Pic shows today's hunts totals. $3.08 , 21 coins. no bling, little trash. Using a nice plug cutter and the Tarsacci 12". That 12 inch was hunting over old ground I've hunted with other machines including the Tarsacci with standard coil. So there's that.
  2. Some real useful questions and explanations above. There's sure a lot of ways to fine tune this machine to the way you hunt. Trying these different ideas while out in the Wild is the fastest way to finding what best suits the hunter.
  3. Dew, your tough as nails. 3 of us hunt PCB in the winter, 2 of us in early 70's. Our youngest about 65. Real good shape and has no qualms about wading rough water. Guess who comes up with the Gold. My buddy Dualfield and I give him big credit. We'll go out there till we start bobbing and get splashed on the neck. Than thats it. Getting old. Leave nothing Dew.
  4. Carolina, except for the hasal of it all, I got a gut feeling Tarsacci will take care of your machine and get it back to you asap. But let us know how everything turns out.
  5. Kaolin, you might have pulled up the Last of the Untouchables ! Ten inches Deep is a Chest Beater around my area. Nice one
  6. Looked it up its. " Coghlans Alum. Capsule "
  7. Chase. "COGHLAN'S" is stamped on it. I thought about the padding too. I use that velvet bag it's resting on in the picture. I guess a thin rubber membrane (inner tube) maybe would be better. Cap has a o-Ring, I've had it wading No leaks, Runs, or Drips
  8. Tarsacci battery fits in snugly and is waterproof.
  9. Running the Biggin today, reached down for some feint dimes and one nice 9" coin spill. Real nice coil, cleaning up what was left. That spill had 5 nickels 2 dimes and a quarter all stacked. Numbers were all over the place. But in disc mode easily made out the chimes with the nickel bongs. Doesn't always turn out that way. High, low or deep, the Biggin was snagging them today. The spill coins are near the tip of the shovel.
  10. Chase maybe you could give me a better suggestion than what I'm using. I'm a Park, sport field hunter right now. I'm using Threshold -1. Disc. -2. Like some others, I guess I'm hunting for just a little below nickel value then up for non ferrous. Any input appreciated. Dancer
  11. I guess the subject morphed from the Apex into computer upgrades in general. Anyway Palz thanks for your insight, something to think about. Dancer
  12. Well ,people still use land line phones for security reasons. Cell's are more convenient, but the whole world listens in. Now as far as machines go. You got to remember that a lot of guys grew up with and take to advanced electronics more than others. I shouldn't make any statements about these newer machines that I haven't hunted. But I'm wondering Steve, take your top 3 up dateable machines. Am I wrong to think that the difference between them, is a pretty thin slice. One thing I'm pretty sure about is that. Head to head you could out hunt me with a AT Pro while I swing a Deus or maybe a Nox. 2 out of 3 times at least.
  13. Palz yep no doubt your deus smoked the Ace 250. And it takes a pretty experienced hunter to master that machine. But that same day if you and the owner of the 250 swapped machines. My money would be on Palz hands down, hunting the Ace. Not knowing either of you guys, what do you think?
  14. This was a very interesting ( and not planned ) field test , which simply means that you need the right tool for the right job. Concerning the software update yes I consider it as a very interesting feature , even if sometimes I get excited when microsoft blocks my PC with a windows update and I have something urgent to do lol ... 🙂
  15. Chase, of course you are right on all counts. In my case the drying up of Clad/ Jewelry. And I can't argue the popularity of some of the upgradeable machines out there. It's the menus than sub menus and I don't know what else that seem more like gimmicks, then those nuances have to be enhanced. I believe I have read that coming up there will be machines that will accept cell phone calls like the newer automobiles. Oh, it's gonna happen. Maybe tied in with the wireless headphones. Distractions! I too own the Tarsacci and have a lot of hours on it. Will I ever truely understand it? Probably not. But I'm going to squeeze as much out of it as I can. The Tar along with the Vista X and Garrett s At Pro and Infinium is about all the Technology I can handle.
  16. I'm gonna show my ignorance here, because I've only hunted maybe eight machines, but hunted them hard. Dry land / fresh, salt water wading. Now I got a couple of good (nitch) machines that can out perform my others under certain circumstances. I haven't picked threw rusty nails and such looking for Treasure. But I have a constant battle picking through bits of aluminum seeking gold ,Silver and Clad. Here's my statement of ignorance. I think it's true that some machines will give you a tiny edge. But I truly believe that a majority of good finds could be recovered by a Ace 250. Why because of the site and the experience of the hunter. Of course wading in water is another story. But really don't some of you think these updates should have been addressed before hand ? Saying your product needs a update isn't a very good selling point. I think the biggest update I need is for people to start buying and losing more Gold. And that ain't gonna happen. I still compete my machines against each other. If I feel one is slacking, I start looking for a new draft pick. Which can be a lot of fun too.
  17. Just for the sake of argument. Myself and plenty others have and do own (including Garretts) that are not updateable. They were made right the first time, Of course some needed sent back for some tweeking. Going back through history , they produced terrific finds. Now we buy a machine that has to be (updated) with aspects that should have been included in the first place. Like the ones listed in this thread. Where as, even many machines from all price ranges got it right (more or less) the first time. It's not a advanage when we go hunting and having to worry "Wonder if I missed a update?" The Apex is a great shot in the arm for Garrett sales. An Ace on steroids. The biggest update would be water proof to 10 feet. This is where the, No Updates All Terrain Pro series has been Garretts wheelhouse. So same price range, no hassle . No tip toeing around water.
  18. Shouldn't be surprising but I grasp more from a video like this than one that comes with one good target after another. I dig a lot of iffy signals, I mean a lot. Park hunting, this means a whole lot of aluminum junk with any machine. I consider digging a nickel a big win. Tells me that I'm understanding the machine. And like this video might say that there's still good stuff in the area. Once it seems when a site is stripped of coins and a lot of trash is when it can get real interesting. Especially if you got a little more depth going for you.
  19. The Tarsacci is lucky to be in such hands. Ya gotta wonder who wore those buttons?
  20. Just slap some electric tape over connections like that. Including the speaker especially if your wading. Might not be necessary but a little piece of mind.
  21. Dmnz, 30+ grams of Gold. Your blowing us away again. That's about $950 to $1000 just in scrap here in the states. But the Thrill had to be a high !
  22. Garrett still services the Infinium. Just had a total repair last January. A lot was replaced, and a first class job. Think they still have DD coils available ?
  23. Hmmm, Don't know just something I read on another forum. Posted the DD coils would work on the ATX but not the Monos. Someone gotta know for sure.
  24. Dmnz, have you hunted with the Infinium DD on the ATX ? I just read that it can. Ive hunted the Inferno for years, never cabel trouble. But is the Infinium coil deeper on the ATX or no? If it is ,why not slap a Infinium coil on that baby go hunting? Got to be something wrong with this idea, huh. Dancer
