That is total BS Sheppo, all of our videos were filmed and posted on YouTube after Bruce's murder it had nothing to do with it, and we have never had any other "incidents" as you say. Despite what people say we had written permission and lawful access rights for everywhere we prospected and filmed.

We stopped posting videos because of the same problems that Jaysong has/had. The lengths people will go to to follow you are extraordinary! If they spent that much time looking for gold they might find something! I have a 3 terrabite hard drive full of video that no one will ever see due to the negative impact it inflicted on me.

I know what happened, I didn’t want to say to much more as it’s not my place to say, and thankyou for setting me straight. I certainly wasn’t incinuating you were outside your bounds either. I apologise if you take it any other way.

I actually had no idea you fellas were on here. I’ve watched the videos you have on the channel and thoroughly enjoyed them. Would love to see more, but fair enough for not posting them. People are grubs.

You are quite welcome to PM me if you feel the need to.

The best gold detecting videos (personal opinion of course), are JP's videos that he produced himself,

and that included music, editing, narration and distribution. They were put out

on DVD's and anyone who wants to understand a Minelab detector will benefit

from almost any of his productions. A ton of his hard work and we benefit.

The other videos that absolute captivate me are by the Goldhounds. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCanm0gYhAZNL6-wNKkSXx8Q

While there is a ton of detecting knowledge being shared, it is the

amazing personalities of that group that makes their YouTube videos

so highly entertaining. They had to stop shooting them because I think

    N. Queensland became overrun with people trying to find out where

they worked. Even with their videos being 6 and 7 years old,

they are worth a look. Like JP in his realm, these guys know their stuff

    and are funny as hell.

They stopped due to an incident involving firearms and someone being seriously injured. I know more to the story but this isn’t the place to broadcast that knowledge.

I also enjoy Krissy’s videos from Outback Gold Fever. While alot of her videos may not impart much knowledge, it’s great to see some of the areas she works in and gives a glimpse of what I hope to see myself in the near future.

  3. One word related to this completely:

    COVID.

COVID has played a massive part worldwide in quality control issues with factory staffing playing a massive one with Companies grabbing who they can, where they can to keep production rolling. Often these people lack the skills their usual labour force hold which then flows down to quality at the end of their production line. This has also affected Quality Control in manufacturing.

I’m going to be very blunt here. Getting onto these forums whinging about quality does absolutely nothing to help the situation we’re in. If you want our current situation to improve, get off your backside, get skilled in the sector you want to work in, go to work and do your job properly. That is the only way we will ever go back to seeing the previous quality of every product we’ve ever used.

He obviously hasnt been detecting for terribly long, the way he leaves the cable unsecured at the coil end is asking for coax failure, so typical of recent Coiltek coils (Elite series). Yes, he over-digs quite a few.... Yeah Ive noticed a heap of 'good' signals recently that vanish after digging. I should carry a bucket with me and collect all the dirt from these 'vanishing' signals...pan it all off, just to be sure lol.  Think I'll wait for the NF 12x7 and 8x6 before I buy an aftermarket coil.....or wait for the 6000 adapter info to be released by X-coils. If that happens, there will be a heap of experimentation with older GPX coils going on.....

X-Coils aren’t chasing the 6000 going by previous reports.

A Purchase date would show a lot relative to any issues. There is no doubt there were problems at release with rightfully unhappy customers, I personally as a dealer have gone above and beyond to help those few people as best I can. Who you buy your detector from can have a big bearing on your experience.

How the detector is used would be another one. I remember a person that came in with a ‘faulting coil’ while I was dropping by your shop, turned out to be he was getting overly excited, and throwing his waste dirt back over the detector and it contaminated the plug on the control box. You cleaned the machine up, sorted the problem out there and then and he was on his way. Not many other dealers would’ve done that.

I’m also certainly not implying that incorrect use is the issue with many of these faults, especially the DOA machines, but sometimes a step back by users and analysing the issue will very likely help. I’m also not defending Minelab, as there isn’t an excuse for the number of DOA machines that there has been.

I guess I’ve been one of the lucky ones to get a good machine straight out of the box 🤷‍♂️

My hearing is somehow still great despite a lifetime of playing loud punk rock drums, shooting and using saws and other tools with no ear protection. I hear all sorts of very high pitched noises in buildings, around electrical equipment, etc that other people swear are not there but I can hear plain as day. It drives me crazy in hotel rooms sometimes, things like that where a fridge or TV makes a constant noise and the hotel doesn't believe me. A person's high frequency hearing starts to decline around 20 or so I think, I used to be able to hear a lot more than now.

Same here but operated harvesting machinery most of my working life so far, I’m 33. My last hearing test, the tester was surprised I could still hear the high pitched faint noises the machine created.

I can hear the buzz of a fluorescent light or the high pitched squeal of an older tube type TV, but don’t pick up the hiss that Simon’s talking about, which still tells me there is something wrong with his machine.

I'm not sure what nationality she is, she's certainly not Australian, European of some sort.  Man those flies were bad, I don't miss that about Australia although you never need to take lunch along, you've got plenty of protein from all the flies you accidentally eat.   It was funny when one went up her nose, who knows what happened there, she didn't seem to get it out.

She’s German, she’s mentioned it a few times.

    5. This is about the 2895'th time I've seen this - your coil cable's first loop around the shaft should be over the top, not under the shaft. When you loop the cable under the shaft, this puts a lot of stress on the cable entry point every time you put your detector down to retrieve a target.

    5. The coil will also pick up the cable with it routed as in phrunt’s video, thus giving you a false signal when swivelling the coil towards the shaft/cable. See the attached photo. Even mine is a touch tight. Use a longer loop if you ever run the GPX17 to keep the cable away from the coil.

As Sheppo pointed out he's constantly using the quick trak to keep his 6000 happy, I can't notice the difference between using it and not using it although I do use it just in case there is something I don't know or understand which is very likely 🙂

And noise cancelling when it becomes ratty. I’ve also had the privelege of and am thankful for the help JP has given me with the machines I’ve bought through him.

  10. I still feel you need to send it in for repairs/replacement. I never touch the noise cancel button that often in a session, though I do live on the quick track button.

That noise you hear when down near the coil is actually the output of the machine/coil and the frequency it pulses at. I picked it up the first time I used it with headphones and then heard it again while watching a prospecting TV show recently (The Weekend Prospector if anyone’s interested, also not expecting to hear it through the TV). I also picked the GPZ’s frequency up when I started wearing headphones/earbuds aswell, though not as loud. That did take me off guard before I worked out what it was. I haven’t heard the ‘hiss’ that you speak of though.

Weather report for Clermont says 27 degrees C, cooling off eh? We were all shivering here with 1 degree overnight and 14 degrees C for the day in Central Vic. This ex desert boy thinks he'll swap you any day lol

I’m about 2 hours drive from Clermont but climate is the same. Anything less than 30 deg C is cold 😂

Aye I spent a wee bit of time down your way Au you can have it QLDs where life`s for livings at, what ya reckon Sheppo, tis only a local call to JP whoops JC up here.

Queensland’s weather in winter is absolute perfection, apart from when it decides to rain. If it was like that all year round it’d be great.

Haha, laughed my head off Sheppo..... typical Queenslander, barefoot prospector lol....betcha only wore a pair of stubbies and bare chest when ya was video'ing that lol. Ya got lots of odd glances from passing traffic 😉  Thanks heaps for posting that video, gives us poor worrying near-future 6000 owners something to aim for, signal-wise....Cheers

No stubbies here mate 😂 Shirt on aswell, it’s just starting to cool off, plus, I’m sure no one wants to see my man boobs anyway.

That was only meant as a quick demo for Simon. I’ll be doing some videoing of undug targets on my next outing, whenever that may be.

I went out and made a quick little video to demonstrate what my machine does in less than ideal circumastances. I wasn’t far from town and the road noise wasn’t great either and I hope you can hear everything. Also attached is a piece of the gold that I used for the demo. I believe because your machine is faulty @phrunt you won’t be getting the desired result.

I ran mine in Difficult, manual sensitivity turned all the way up and volume on full.

Yea, my dealer brought it down to me from 7 hours away so I can imagine he's as annoyed as I am.  In hindsight I should have asked him to fire it up before he brought it down as he had 2 in stock so he could have swapped it over before bringing it down, now he's got to take it back up when he goes back and post a new one down, extra expensive for him paying for shipping for something that's not been his fault, I hope Minelab compensate dealers for this sort of rubbish, its really not their fault.

Ok so I've spent all day messing around with this thing, It's at a point now it turns on a majority of the time, I'm certain something is loose inside it as tapping on the side of the control box made it go from not turning on at all, to turning on with an explanation mark error to now working most of the time and when it doesn't its still doing that explanation mark error.  It seems to have faulty headphones anyway as they're still charging about 20 hours later, still no solid light 🙂

So I'm still obviously going to get it replaced, unless I just don't bother with it.

Now I filmed a quick little video, I'm obviously no expert on the GPX although it's a turn on and go detector any dummy can use according to the packaging.

And the GPZ I just use as a turn on and go detector too, I know it's not apples to apples the GPZ has a smaller coil, but the fact is people are saying the GPX kills the GPZ on small gold, or does it?  JW doesn't have this GPZ coil so he doesn't know how it performs.

So I ran them both over a 0.03 of a gram nugget just sitting on the surface, that's often how this sort of gold is found, within a couple of inches anyway and my mild soil really makes no difference if its on the ground or a bit of dirt sitting on it.

To me the difference is night and day with the GPZ being the stand out winner, now I'm not sure if this response from the GPX is normal, if it does have a dodgy cable inside perhaps that is affecting performance so I've marked this video as unlisted on Youtube so only people reading this thread will be able to see it, I don't want to make a detector look bad if its a faulty one causing the performance to be how it is, and I think that is likely the case.  Lowering the gain on the GPX makes no difference, makes it a little more stable but the target doesn't improve, however any advice would be appreciated.

I'm having serious buyers remorse on this detector, I can't see me using it to the point I think a refund would be the better option if this is normal for it, but like I said it maybe faulty, or I maybe just not using it right being a first time user and I need to give it more of a chance.

I'd appreciate GPX owners letting me know if this is what they'd expect from it? If it's normal that's fine, I don't want to complain to my dealer saying I think it's got performance issues too if its normal

I probably need to try get it running more stable and see if it improves, there are power lines nearby which will be affecting both detectors, but perhaps the GPX is more affected by them.  I'll take it out tomorrow for a gold hunt and see if it changes out in the gold areas away from EMI a bit more as I'm just using it at the river behind my house.

I’d expect a better target response out of my 6000 with a target sitting on the surface like that, even for its size. Small rusty wire is an absolute pain in my rear end. I unfortunately don’t have video of it. I also consider the edge of the coil absolute fire for getting into edges where targets may be hiding (and have found them).

Being that you are also relatively close in proximity to powerlines won’t be helping you any at all. That threshold is also pretty standard for the external speaker, and I don’t use it at all. The machine is totally different with headphones.

Something I’ve also found with the 6000 compared to the Z, that yes, while the target response is better on small stuff, when you get a loud surface target, the volume stays the same on the 6000. The Z tends to damn near blow your ear drums out when it comes across one of these. I’m not sure if others have noticed this aswell.

I'll keep trying, either way it obviously has to go back but It'd be ideal if I can at least use it for a day to see if its even worth having a 6000, in my vague comparisons so far with JW's one I really saw little difference between it and my GPZ on small gold especially when using my little 8" coil on the GPZ and I thought my GPZ had a much cleaner clearer more obvious target response but I'm always one to give something a try.

Get a proper working one and do the comparisons, you’ll probably find the 6000 has a better target response on the small stuff you’re chasing over the Z. Yes, they’re a chatty machine but that’s because of their ridiculous sensitivity (also use this to your advantage!)

If I want to have some fun and go target tiddlers for an afternoon, the 6000 is a go to over the Z.

I recently spent some time on a lease here and targetted an area with the 6000 that had already been throughly worked over by a plethora of other detectors and managed another 11g. I’ll do a post up soon.

Good luck and I believe you’ll be pleasantly surprised when you do get a good machine and I believe you’ll keep us posted.

Due to Strychnine poisoning for dingo control in West Australia you have to watch out for your pet. Strychnine poisoning in animals occurs usually from ingestion of baits designed for use against rodents (especially gophers and moles) and coyotes. Rodent baits are commonly available over-the-counter, but coyote baits are illegal in the United States. However, since 1990 in the United States most baits containing strychnine have been replaced with zinc phosphide baits.[8] The most common domestic animal to be affected is the dog, either through accidental ingestion or intentional poisoning. The onset of symptoms is 10 to 120 minutes after ingestion.[9] Symptoms include seizures, a "sawhorse" stance, and opisthotonus (rigid extension of all four limbs). Death is usually secondary to respiratory paralysis. Treatment is by detoxification using activated charcoal, pentobarbital for the symptoms, and artificial respiration for apnea.

This is one way to keep your pet safe.    .....   Edit this is not my dog, but he is a beautiful model for this post.

1080 is also commonly used for wild dog control in WA aswell as Queensland. Definitely not something you want your dog getting a hold of.
