Just to save the trouble for American readers.... if these prices are accurate that's about $417 for the M15 and $341 for the M8. I'd love to think they will come with a lower shaft for that price but wishful thinking I'm sure! Minelab knows they gotcha though... you've already invested in the machine and if you want the optional coils you have no other options in the short term
Prices are accurate look on Crawford metal detectors uk. Manticore in uk £1799. Uk detectorists paying big time in their country. You US chaps got it cheap

Shocking cost I feel. They are trying to cream everyone with a Manticore. Makes the Nox 800 and 900 a great buy. Bearing in mind that I do not believe in the grand scheme of things you are really getting that much of an overall performance upgrade Apart from the bells and whistles and in the majority of cases how much we miss in the wild is anyones guess. I think find rates with new machines increase as everyone digs all signals just to investigate what lays beneath. The Manticore on the beach yes noticeable improvement and afew good finds will pay for your coil.

TnSharpshooter posted a short video on Youtube just showing the coils, and mentioning he had used the M8 more than the M15. He said more to come on both. The M8 in particular.
M15 coil £329 uk pound. M8 £269 uk pound

My opinion is the 800 is still right up there as the pinnacle of VLF's, the only thing letting it down was built quality, performance wise it's not been left behind by the Manticore. For anyone that doesn't have a 900 or Manticore you're not missing all that much, better build quality is the major change, but I would not think I'll find much more using my Manticore that I'd miss with my Nox 800. Extreme circumstances like perhaps heavy iron or something maybe, but under most conditions very little difference.
Thx for your honesty as you know I sold my Manticore as I was not overly impressed, and as you say the 800 is still up there, mine continues to surprise me its a great machine. The Manticore had a lot to live up to, its still got room to grow so hopefully it will improve. Manticore II will be the machine to get I feel and if they stabilise the 900 that may well be my next step when my 800 dies. I prefer Minelab machines.I keep hoping you weaken and give the D2 a try would love to know how you rate it lol

Its really been a disappointment all round I would say. They certainly haven't made many friends, I would think they have lost more than they have made.

Manticore and 900 have been readily available from UK retailers for weeks now so No more having to go on waiting lists. So his comments on demand do not add up in Europe ! that just seems a lame excuse.

He has stated he has been a UK tester and been heavily invoved in the new update. So you might find this worth a look ?

I know this is an old thread, but since it's been bumped recently, I'm going to throw my .02 in for whatever comes next. 😁
"What Features And Performance Improvements Would You Like To See In The Next High End Minelab Coin Detector?"
1) As lightweight or even lighter than the current Deus 2. Use carbon fiber wherever possible. Even on the coil casing, arm cuff and grip.
2) Lower shaft should be mounted in the CENTER of the coil. Not offset.
3) Entire shaft should be very rigid. Again, using carbon fiber. This is a high end machine, so why not?
4) Shaft should be keyed like the current Deus 2 and Legend, so that it doesn't rotate.
5) Shaft should be clearly marked with adjustment lines so that we can quickly extend it to our desired length.
6) Coil cable should be concealed inside the shaft, similar to the CTX, or make it completely wireless like the Deus.
7) A comfortable ergonomic grip, yet still easy to clean.
8 ) A functional stand. This really shouldn't have to be mentioned, but.... (ahem, XP).
9) The display should be in color and easy to read without glare.
10) The pinpoint button should be trigger style. Activated with the index finger. Similar to the CTX and the older White's units like the V3i, XLT and DFX.
11) All other buttons should be within thumbs reach. No more buttons mounted on the SIDE of the detector.
12) The menu should be well thought out and easy to navigate.
13) Give it descriptive audio like the Deus 2, good visual aids like the Manticore. Audio should be highly configurable to the user's preference.
14) Depth, separation and EMI handling should be as good or better than the current crop of high end detectors.
15) Lots of coil options upon release.
16) Charging connections should be as quick and easy as possible. Magnetic works well enough.
17) Bonus points for a wireless pinpointer running same disc as the detector. Similar to the old Sunray probes, but smaller and wireless.
Spot on but I would like it to include a module as well improved battery and run time.

I have heard the same thing, but I'm not sure I would believe it without actually seeing a Deus II and a Nox swinging over the same target in loose dirt and one doing better than the other. It would seem to me the more fluff there is the more air there is which should not make any difference. I just don't get how fluff can be tougher than compacted ground when air test are always deeper than in the ground test.
Yep strange agree but seems to be the case in fact I have discussed this with the owner of a detecting outlet in UK and his club use D2 for plough and Nox on compact pasture for the reasons mentioned so not just my findings.

I tend to think ALL detectors suffer in plowed, aerated fields. It's a known issue that going into a "fluffy" disc'd and aerated field your depth is just going to suffer even with a PI. We have those conditions in the US too.
Do you have a detector that does better than the Minelabs under those conditions?
My buddy uses D2 that performs very well in the plough and has the edge over the nox in my opinion

I have no idea about this stuff but did you manually ground balance away from the aerated soil and then go into it and see how it goes? At a guess I'd think the ground balance would be the only thing that would change the results with aerated soil over nearby compacted stuff. How does your Nox 800 perform in the same situation?
Yes Simon. Nox more stable in use but always feel that it also could do better.Shallow targets never an issue but depth never impresses in these conditions although very sensitive to very small targets cant fault that.

So if it's not iron falsing that is causing problems in you ploughed fields, what is the source?
Its does not perform well on airated soil, depth isnt everything I know that but when compared with the great results experienced on the beach in the beach modes it doesn't compare. If it performed as well on this type of soil matrix as it does on the beach it would be near perfect for me.

Looks like the update is geared more for the USA at present and your nail falsing issue's.
Hopefully the next update will be geared towards inland hunting on ploughed farmland in Europe.
We need a module as the 105 headphones are not very well designed as wind noise is still a big problem. Surely the module will enhance the Manticores sound and tonal experience.
But a step in the right direction keep them coming ML. I may yet re-invest in one.😀

You mean ML85 ? As shown in your picture

For info 15 inch coils are being tested. Ignore the transmitter info if you wish but if you make to the end you will see he has a 12 x 15 coil attached.

You make me want a Deus 2, although my Deus 1 experience wasn't all it was cracked up to be, a year or so ago it was the greatest thing since sliced bread to some people... so I got one, and well, big disappointment..... I'm tempted by the Deus 2... but also after my Deus 1 a bit iffy on it for my needs. All I want is deep with reliable target ID's in mild soils and my Ace 300 towers over the Deus 1 for this.....
I take it your not happy with the Manticore then ?

I have a second wm08 module I was thinking maybe the 105 headphones chip could be adapted to fit. ? Anyone know if this could be an option ?

I posted these coments in the comparison forum a few days ago.
As a beach detector looks like its the real deal. I dont beach hunt and live in Europe.
I have actually sold my Manticore was not impressed and felt it was very much work in progress. In the cold light of day not much of an improvement I felt for the high price tag. Its to sparky and to noisey meaning that you have to constantly monitor the screen. More tiring than relaxing. You shouldn't have to lower the sensitivity down to much in normal situations and the max limit of 35 is useless in most situations and I feel was just to help with better specs and a selling point. The headphones are useless in windy conditions and you have no module to help enhance your audio experience. The screen suffers from screen glare at certain angles, battery run time isn't that good and the torch and vibration mode I would suggest most people wont use. The short noise cancel is not needed as the long press is a must in most situations. I may purchase again in the future but things will need to improve. Deus 2 seems to be the best upgrade at the present time. So thats my feelings at the present. The nox 800 is my preference at the moment and seriously looking at the 900. But Jeffs issues have me holding back to see whats what.

Yes, I do like the larger ID range of the Manticore as it's moved common pull tabs away from my silver threepence coins like the CTX, the Nox they were smack together.
I do really like my Manticore, it's just a shame the ID's aren't quite as good as expected. In saying that, I doubt I'll buy another Minelab detector in the next few years, I'm done buying detectors for minimal improvements in performance over older models. I'm jumping off that mouse wheel.

Didn't think of that one Dave. At least that coil has been promised and presumably is in production. Hope you get it soon.
Just to be clear, Minelab contacted me via email using my information provided with my warranty registration. I did not contact them or request any help other than the sentence that I put near the end of my original post about being open to hearing from them.
Hi Jeff I expect you have been asked not to divulge any info regarding your chat ! itching to know if the engineer thought there was an issue ? or just your machine ? I presume its a watch this space scenario ?

A joint Manticore and Equinox 700/900 ID stability update would be great.
I have not experimented with running the Equinox 900 below 18 versus up to 25 in order to determine depth loss versus stability since the ground only fully thawed out here about 2 weeks ago. I will look into that. However, that is not a permanent solution.
I have heard many users recommend running Beach mode to help ID stability on some targets.
There is so much magnetite in the soil where I detect that running Equinox, Legend or Deus 2 Beach in their Wet Sand modes causes too much automated lowering of sensitivity to be a realistic option.
I would be very interested Jeff in your observations regarding the same site and lower sensitivity settings vs your 25 sensitivity settings. At my locations low to medium mineralisation with high trash causes information overload, lower sensitivity quietens and stabilises my machine down when things get noisey. Pretty sure updates are on the way and stability will be improved. The 800 is still up there and a great machine put it in the 900 body with new shaft, include a back button for navigation in the menu system and improve its unmasking and separation abilities in line with the 900 and I would buy it at a drop of a hat. Provided it also came with a module. Don't care about the flash light or the vibration. There my rant over 🤪

Its like a faint electronics humming sound with different pitch when changing the mode.. I checked it when you brought it up.. but the control box really need to be close to the ear to hear it.. I think it has something to do with frequencies change when in different mode I guess...
I can hear it about a metre away and can very faintly hear when wearing the headphones indoors. Out in the wild never hear it I would think. had the machine 2 days and was playing with the mode settings. Thx for reply puts my mind at rest.

Are you hearing the threshold setting?
3 hours ago, TripleT said:Are you hearing the threshold setting?
No the threshold level is set to zero ? It's very faint and stops when you change the mode. Head phones switched off and volume at 1 you can still hear it from the control box. I don't think it's an issue and it's probably because it's running hot. I've doubled checked all the settings. Just curious if anyone else has noticed it.

Have noted on my Manticore that when switching to the high conductor mode that there is a noticeable high pitch hum coming from the control box ! Has anyone else noticed this on their machine ?. Apologies if this has already been answered, I know the setting is a high power mode so it may be the norm just curious if my machine is behaving normally.

That is one of the reasons that stops me investing in a Manticore , supply a module ML !
