  1. Question for strick. Would be very interested on your findings  with regard tid stability on the Manticore and the same could apply to the 900 I would think. The Videos I've looked at and been able to see the screen adequately seem to show (which is to be expected I suppose) quite a range of numbers being displayed when going over "good" targets which I think I would find off putting. I do like the stability of the 800 over good targets(I do fully understand that targets are bunched together tid number wise due to the compressed tid scale). Coins unless on edge with the 800 are stable and generally lock on to one or two numbers, if the numbers fluctuate over say 3 numbers the target is usually not round therefore unlikely to be a coin although depth does effect this. I like to check targets this way along with the tone response. There is a slight nuance with say aluminium as the tone sounds to sweet at times. I also appreciate that the 2d screen is there to be used but the question is about tid stability. Thx

  2. I am very much on the fence regarding the Manticore, one minute I want to buy one and the next minute I am unsure and think I will go for the 900 lol. There have not been enough glowing reports yet to convince me, purchasers seem happy with it but not blown away by it.

It's easy. It's called being forthright and honest about whatever it is. I dealt with some of the most difficult customers in the world by a. having empathy and sympathizing, not arguing and explaining away and b. simply owning up to stuff with no fuss.

People love it. We all make mistakes and fact is most of us are very forgiving of people who simply say "hey, I made a mistake, I'm sorry, but I'm working on it. I value you and please be patient."

But you are asking an engineer driven company to excel at empathetic communications. Good luck with that. The failure here is the hired marketing people and their inability - or have they been forbidden - to use social media to communicate and garner points with customers. They are stuck in old school Chicago style flash promotion and dictatorial one way communications. It irritates a lot of people who might otherwise be happy customers. I think Minelab would be shocked at how many people grudgingly own their devices, and would jump ship in a moment given the chance. People may love the detectors, but few people love the company.

Well Said agree completely, surely they must see it would be of benefit to them in the long run, stands out a mile. Just comes across a blatant disregard in my eyes.

  4. All comments so far from Purchasers of the 900 and Manticore seem to be all positive which is good news, are there any negatives even if they are small negatives(apart from not being able to get one lol), would be interesting to hear, I know its early days.

  6. I weakened lol said I was not going to watch anymore you tubers videos but just watched a couple of iffy signals latest. And horay he actually turns 90 degrees( a worthwhile check with minelabs)on a target and iron confirmation is indicated. My problem is that I will upgrade but the 900 seems to keep up with the Manticore very well. Being a long term 800 user I am not convinced yet that the Manticore is better than the 900 at separation and unmasking. If it isn't then the 900 seems a good upgrade.

Appreciate the detailed review!  Like sodbuster I'm staying with my 800 till it fails.  By then i wonder if the 600/800 will still be an option.  I'd be looking at the 700/900 because of the shaft and grip angle + the coil options.  Manticore?  In my dreams at this point.  Wish they would have updated the 900 key pad/navigation but no deal breaker.

Agree would have been a good move by them to include a back button for easy menu navigation

  8. So I am sure a lot of you like me have watched a few you tubers videos and read a few threads, I have had enough of doing the you tube thing now and am happy to wait at least six months to see what the consensus is. Is anyone disappointed with what they have seen and the urge to own a Manticore less compelling. I personally have got past the must have phase.

  9. I just feel that detecting is always about sound and the way we interpret it, experience and hours spent with the machine enhance it further. The tricks of the trade we learn along the way and the curiosity to dig that signal that we  subconsciously know needs to be dug all adds to the thrill of finding something worthwhile. Eyes can deceive. I love this hobby I am always surprised when I least expect it and a wonderful find emerges from the hole.

Subject says it all.  Got a whole 5 minutes of quality run time before I discovered the defect. ML early production QC living down to expectations.  Simon you can add this to your ML quality list of grievances.  🤣  Will let you all know how it goes with warranty service. 🫥  Merry Christmas!

Sorry to hear that Chase, I would have been gutted, hope its sorted out quickly for you.

I just watched it before I logged in here. My take. The coins they are pulling are in the depth that I’ve been seeing. The manticore user is still learning his machine...the guy with the Deus 2 I’m forgetting his name right now....You don’t want to mess with as he’s a real pro with just about any detector he uses...what I’m still not seeing is good hunting technique..the guy with the Manticore does not turn on his targets...watch his feet maybe once or twice in the whole video..I have not dug a iron target that did not give some hint of it being iron prior. One of the better videos I’ve seen yet though...

Yep agree you have to walk round a target to get more info. Good video as well from experienced people will look forward to their next instalment.

The Manticore works fine in nail beds. It’s going to be even better when the small coil becomes available. Spent most of the day hunting an old ghost town. The machine is sensitive and does false a lot but the iron audio works as it should. I hunted mostly like I would with the Nox wide open with iron audio on. When it got to be too much I’d give my ears a break by engaging the disk.  You can’t make a silver coin pop out of the ground where there ain’t one like they are  trying to do on YouTube. The machine is telling you it’s iron...dig it all you want and what you have in your pouch is nails. It’s kinda funny watching these you tubers who think they are the only ones who have to hunt in beds of nails...like houses only burn down where they hunt and no where else lol. Like any machine it will take time to learn... I dug some very deep small rivets today...the manticore  bangs on them loud and clear.

Good info that's what we need real life findings of people hunting in their own ground. Sounds like it's going to be a nice machine to use.

One question that always eats at me is why Minelab does not just put out their own videos about their detectors? Why don't they have a slew of videos and tutorials on YouTube showing every feature and function. Why depend on others to promote your product? I guess it's cheaper that way maybe, but it sure leads to a lot of confusion about the product.

I know it's not in Minelab's best interest to show any weakness in their products, and they probably wouldn't show them. They could still show features and explain features in a professional manner that would beat seeing this non-professional stuff we as customers are stuck with watching to get a overview of the detector. I know a detector is not going to behave the same everywhere, but you got start somewhere. I don't own an XP detector, but think Mr. Blackwell's videos are pretty good. I'd sure like to see something like that vs. what we are stuck with.

I think we have already got that with SH. We just need to listen a little better.

Oh No!!!!  CD got a new 900 and one of the buttons doesn't work right!  It only responds to a very hard press.  He's also getting some heat from his subscribers on his iron falsing problem and he's not in a good mood about it.  What are we going to do with him?

Yes was not impressed with his attitude. My way or no way ! People have been generally curious how the Manticore reacts when carrying out all the little tricks to check for iron. He basically refused to show this. Why people wanted to see. He's not the only expert. He is just making it a war now and there really is no need.

This thred is a S@#t show. I've watched all his videos...CD clearly does not know north from south...he doesn't even circle the targets. It's like nail falsing is a new discovery for him.  PSPR enough drama please...

His part 2 video recently posted has a long reply from "Relic Dirtyhands" explaining what he is doing wrong in her opinion, looks like he has chosen not to reply to her comment, which he should do as its good info.
