  1. Mike posted exactly what I wasnt going to say. Lately Ive been detecting with an old timer who is one of the most succesful hunters in my area. He doesnt use the latest/greatest, but he knows his gp extreme, gmt's and 5900 like the back of his hand. But what seperates him from many others is his confidence! He truly believes, if there is any gold in the area,(or coins/relics) then he WILL find it. Also his enthusiasm. Dude has been detecting for over 40 years, and he is still like a kid. One last thing that Im not sure has been mentioned yet, too be succesful for gold at least, health matters. Try to stay in shape. At least here in California, the canyons that we hike can be real a$$kickers. Ray

  2. And in my oponion ,from what Ive seen so far, I would take any of those you listed for parks ,over the Deus. I only have aprox. 120 hours or so on the deus, and its been telic hunting with 2 nuggetshooting trips. The Deus excels in old trashy sites..iron. The i.d. is not very accurate at depth...but it does have great tones. My son uses an AT Pro and does very well with it..and will accurately guess his finds fairly well. You can find a used one in the $400-500 range...same goes for the others..mand see if you even like detecting, before plunking down $2k.Just an idea....

  3. My detecting buddy uses the falcon to find gold. Hes been going to some quartz covered gullies on public land where they have basically banned detecting. So he uses the falcon and always seems to come back with 5-10 pieces of quartz that sound off. Most have no visible gold...but he crushes them up,and sure enough theres gold.

  4. First of all, thank you for all the testing and very detailed reports you give us! I mean that..I got 2 late teen kids,wife,business,etc....so my detecting expenses are limited...if I want to stay married, lol.

I mention the Sov,because to this day I have never seen ,used or heard of a more accurate i.d. The tones are a thing of beauty, couple thatwith the sunray, and its accuracy is amazing...and stays that way at depth . I could pick out a wheaty next to a zinc, pick out an indian in a sea of garbage, etc. But the ergonomics sucked, and to do real well you have to swing so slow as to crawl. Ray
