  1. Gary is great. I can't watch most detecting shows...err..vids. I like honesty, and most guys just act. But, I do love my buddy Ron's vids... California Relic Adventures. What you see of Ron and Mark, is exactly how they are. And Ron made his vids short, too the point, and never cared if he got 1 view, or a million.
  2. I'm using it for nuggets. Got a patch I've been working g with the stock 11 inch coil...been getting nuts to 2 dmt, down to about 13-14 inches. Want to hit that next level, and cover more ground. It's a big, wide open area.
  3. That's some good info bud. Much appreciated!! I'm not too concerned about the weight...I recently wussed out, and got a bungie for it...been having hand problems, guess from decades of roofing and cutting sheet metal. Plus, weight should help in the spot I want to use it at...cattle ranch..help push grass down. Thanks for the input man!
  4. Right on, thanks guys. I will check out those videos after I get done working.
  5. If so, what are your thoughts? Is it sensitive? How does it handle EMI? Does it punch deeper than the gp 18 inches, as their ad claims??
  6. That's easy...the Ole Sovereign. Nothing else I have used comes close. I heard the Mark 1 was nice too
  7. Thanks for the input guys, it's appreciated!
  8. Thanks brother. Guess there may only be one way to find out, haha.
  9. Thanks Geof. Guess my question really is: is switching it to mono, really the same thing as using a mono coil? I plan on testing it Sunday, to see if it picks up too much EMI.
  10. Hey guys. I've had a gp extreme for years, but never used it much, as I'm mainly a relic guy. But landed a permission last year, and stumbled on a real nice patch. This is Northern Cali...soil is rocky clay, not too bad, I run a Deus and Monster without too much trouble, except areas of hot rock. Anyway, been using the stock 11 inch coil, and getting nuggets to 2 dmt, down to around 12 inches. I'm ready to buy a 17x13 Evo coil,to see whats deeper..but here's my question...it's on a hilltop by a river canyon. Side I'm working, is uninhabitable. Directly across river, is subdivision, houses less than a mile, as the crow flies. I'm worried about EMI. I know if you flip that switch on the Extreme, it turns off half the windings in the DD coil. If I do so, would that be a good test, to see if a Mono coil will work here? I don't want to spend $500 on something, that won't be able to use here. Btw, I did pickup someone's cell phone or ham radio once before, lol.
  11. It's bbs...before fbs. It got replaced by the explorer. I stuck with the Sov, while all my friends used the explorer. I found just as many deep silver coins as they did. You have to run it super SLLOOOOWWWW! Best tones ever!!
  12. Nice gold man! Don't get eatin.!! We got some hippys here in Cali, that want the grizzly reintroduced. Maybe they should spend some time out in the Montana woods first.
  13. I already live in the best detecting area..Calaveras County, nocal. When I retire though, doubt it will be in Cali at all...most likely Florida. Probably sell my detectors, fish every day.
  14. I woke up this morning to the overwhelming stench of skunk. Yep...my lab got sprayed in the face. Enjoy!!
  15. Cool man...I found one of those rings years ago! At first, thought it was some sort of middle Eastern wedding ring, lol.
  16. That's one of the safer parks. Lots of primo barbers, not many seated. I hit that place weekly for years. You can cut a random big plug, and pull coins. I'm hoping someday to see a scrape there.
  17. Yeah. That park is still loaded. I was king of that dump, lol.
  18. I will help ya out man. Take a road trip to Stockton. Look up Victory Park. Hit sidewalk strips in the area. I always hit the dead grass/ dirt ones. It's city property, but don't be silly, and dig someone's flowers, lol. Don't know what type detector or experience you have, but all the parks within a mile or 2 of the crosstown are good..but trashy, and some are dangerous. If you present yourself like easy prey, don't go to them. Also, all this applies to early morning...wouldn't go past about 9 or so. Good luck
  19. My son is a firefighter. He just drove down from California, to memorialize the hotshots.
  20. Awesome adventure man. And some fantastic gold. Good write up mate. Hope next year is as good or better for you two.
