I really like watching Two toes. Great guy, love how patient he is in a spot that he thinks has gold. https://youtube.com/c/TwoToes

Gary is great. I can't watch most detecting shows...err..vids. I like honesty, and most guys just act. But, I do love my buddy Ron's vids... California Relic Adventures. What you see of Ron and Mark, is exactly how they are. And Ron made his vids short, too the point, and never cared if he got 1 view, or a million.

Are you planning on using it for gold or relics/treasure?

Just one thing to consider if your using it for treasure, most treasure is small coin or up size, so sensitive coils can be a detriment as can be higher gain settings.

I found the best combo was gb off or sharp if it was on in some places where the soil required it. And I would lower my gain so that I did not constantly pick up small surface junk targets.

The opposite is required if you are going to use it for gold, high gain and I'd definitely run the spiral over the traditional bundle wound.

Here in Australia I ran it over extremely mineralised ground for gold but the monoloop coils and timings still out performed except in extreme conditions.

I'm using it for nuggets. Got a patch I've been working g with the stock 11 inch coil...been getting nuts to 2 dmt, down to about 13-14  inches. Want to hit that next level, and cover more ground. It's a big, wide open area.

Here is a reply I gave about the Detech Ultra Spiral 15DD to another forum member a while back.  The summary is its a great coil with nice sensitivity and depth that can be run in normal timing in severely mineralized ground...but its HEAVY.

That's some good info bud. Much appreciated!! I'm not too concerned about the weight...I recently wussed out, and got a bungie for it...been having hand problems, guess from decades of roofing and cutting sheet metal. Plus, weight should help in the spot I want to use it at...cattle ranch..help push grass down. Thanks for the input man!

It will work as a test to see how a mono (in general) works there, but it won't necessarily indicate how well a bigger coil like the 17x13 will work in the same place.

If you are running an 11" DD then flipping the switch will basically now have you running a 6x11 mono, which is a pretty small coil. The larger the coil, the more susceptible to EMI it will be. A 17x13 Evo is a big coil when it comes to EMI.

That said, I've run the 17x13 without issues with subdivisions in sight in Arizona and done ok. But then in other places further out it was getting so much interference I had to switch to a smaller mono. It kinda just depends on the location. Being too close to powerlines is always a problem though.

Thanks brother. Guess there may only be one way to find out, haha.

  5. Hey guys. I've had a gp extreme for years, but never used it much, as I'm mainly a relic guy. But landed a permission last year, and stumbled on a real nice patch. This is Northern Cali...soil is rocky clay, not too bad, I run a Deus and Monster without too much trouble, except areas of hot rock. Anyway, been using the stock 11 inch coil, and getting nuggets to 2 dmt, down to around 12 inches. I'm ready to buy a 17x13 Evo coil,to see whats deeper..but here's my question...it's on a hilltop by a river canyon. Side I'm working, is uninhabitable. Directly across river, is subdivision, houses less than a mile, as the crow flies. I'm worried about EMI. I know if you flip that switch on the Extreme, it turns off half the windings in the DD coil. If I do so, would that be a good test, to see if a Mono coil will work here? I don't want to spend $500 on something, that won't be able to use here. Btw, I did pickup someone's cell phone or ham radio once before, lol.

I don't read much about this model compared to some of the other FBS models.  Did it have an irreparable flaw / unpopular features or just get replaced quickly by another, better unit?

It's bbs...before fbs. It got replaced by the explorer. I stuck with the Sov, while all my friends used the explorer. I found just as many deep silver coins as they did. You have to run it super SLLOOOOWWWW! Best tones ever!!

I thought I'd drop the question into Professor Google and see if they do get sick leave.  It appears to me they're not as primitive as some might believe and possibly better conditions than in the US?

    Sick Leave

The number of PAID sick days in Malaysia also depends on the duration of employment. Thus, those employees whose illness doesn’t require hospitalization are entitled to:

    • 14 days per year if employed for 1-2 years,
    • 18 days per year if employed 2-5 years,
    • 22 days per year if employed longer than 5 years.

    Shoot...I may move to Malaysia!

Nope, I've got a long way to go to pay for either of them 🙂  Although I've broken the two ounce mark, If I was to take into account fuel costs I'd likely be in the negatives again 🙂

This is with the plastic bottle zero'd out. 64 grams, I put the little guys on there too that are not in the bottle as I've been using them experimenting but they didn't change it at all from the 64, these scales aren't accurate enough but my little accurate scales can't weigh in the ounces.   Don't know how many hundreds of nuggets that is, a bulk of them are very small.

The Equinox was the only detector to pay for itself, and it did it easily four times over and that was with ring finds more so than gold although it's done pretty well on the nuggets I think.  One ring it found was worth $5630 NZD, a Lord of the Rings Elf 18k Elfish ring which my wife claimed.  If I wanted it to I'd say the Equinox would be the one to pay for the detectors by using it for coins and jewellery as that's a lot easier than gold nuggets!

My best week with the Nox for modern money, even found a note flapping in the wind stuck in a fence that week 😛

That rings probably worth near my total gold nugget finds, fortunately for me it's not about the money, I like having my collection of nuggets but they're more about the memories and the finds themselves than their value, they'll never be sold.

I would say for someone with my skill level and time spent gold detecting that coin and jewellery would be where the easy money is, even my silvers add up to some decent money, a few rare ones among them and this is only about half of them now, never took a recent photo of my coins or jewellery finds but I've broken 6 kilo's of coins now and haven't even checked through most of them to see if there is any rare ones except the silvers.

That gold sovereign I gave away to a friend, not sure it was a real one but pretty sure it's a fake, it wasn't the right weight.

So I guess if I wanted to pay down detectors I should start looking for coins and jewellery far more and less for gold, however I enjoy looking for gold a lot more and don't care about the money side of it.

Cool man...I found one of those rings years ago! At first, thought it was some sort of middle Eastern wedding ring, lol.

I remember a park in the rough part of Stockton some of us used to call, Wino Cap Park.   Many old seated, barbers were pulled out of the ground with rusted bottle caps.   I would never hunt there when dark.

That's one of the safer parks. Lots of primo barbers, not many seated. I hit that place weekly for years. You can cut a random big plug, and pull coins. I'm hoping someday to see a scrape there.

  10. I will help ya out man. Take a road trip to Stockton. Look up Victory Park. Hit sidewalk strips in the area. I always hit the dead grass/ dirt ones. It's city property, but don't be silly, and dig someone's flowers, lol.  Don't know what type detector or experience you have, but all the parks within a mile or 2 of the crosstown are good..but trashy, and some are dangerous. If you present yourself like easy prey, don't go to them. Also, all this applies to early morning...wouldn't go past about 9 or so. Good luck
