  1. Primarily interested in hunting for old coins and artifacts with my new Equinox 800 detector and Pro-Find 35 pinpointer. As an avid hiker and rockhounder, I'm always exploring forests, creek valleys, small mountains, parks and fields, and often encounter ruins of old homesteads, mills, & stone walls. I'll leave the beach combing to others, as it's not my thing. Currently reading books about the 800 and metal detecting by Clive Clynick and Andy Samisch plus the MInelab manual, and watching many YouTube videos to help me get up to speed. Thanks for offering this great forum.
  2. I’m a newbie and saving up to buy my 1st metal detector. Meanwhile I’m rockhounding a lot. I’m curious if folks have successfully applied portable ground penetrating radar (or other portable detecting devices) to predict likely location of crystal pockets in the hard rock, like in dolomite (for locating pockets of Herkimer Diamonds) or in granitic pegmatite (for locating pockets of gem tourmaline crystals) ? Any pointers would be appreciated.
  3. SG, Hello to you, too. I donned my snowshoes as well. What kind of detector do you have and what kind of things do you find? I probably won’t get the EQX800 until Spring, but starting to absorb as much as I can for now. BTW, I’m from Litchfield.
  4. Folks, I just joined your fine forum and am enjoying a good winter, full of snow, ice and cold, which affords time to finally see through the trees, and to ponder and plan another season, chock full of New England hiking and rockhounding adventures (gem & mineral). Now I want add metal detecting, to spice things up. I’m currently in the early stages of research for this hobby (addiction?), before emptying my wallet, and I’m considering a Minelab Equinox 800. No beach combing or town greens for me. I’m a mountains, woods, stream, and fields guy and I prefer to bushwhack and explore off-trail. Hoping to reveal some of the past that surrounds me and perhaps find a trinket, coin, teeny nugget, or some interesting mineral. - Stretchy
