  1. That seems shallow to me as well. 2.5 grams is a fairly good sized chunk. I've never measured any recoveries so I couldn't give you any objective observations on how deep that coil should pick up that size of nugget. I have recovered a couple of ounces of nuggets with that coil of various sizes and, subjectively, I would say that seems shallow to "just barely hear it". Do you have a nice stable threshold in those settings? You're not set to "Quiet" under "audio settings"? Give it a try in Enhanced. Dean
  2. Those wheat cents are in great shape. Chris Gholson and I just returned from a productive relic hunt with the Nox and recovered a bunch of wheat cents. I haven't even looked at all of mine yet for dates and MMs. After your post I'm gonna go do just that. Thanks! Dean
  3. If I were forced to choose between my E-Trac and my Nox...I would keep the Nox! It wouldn't be a tough choice actually. The E-Trac is a back-up unit now. I wouldn't sell my E-Trac for less than $750. Dean
  4. I have yet to have a pull tab come in at any ( non gold) coin VDI #. I read a post on another site where a guy said that the Nox "just loves pull tabs". Any detector I've ever used, " just loves pull tabs"! The Nox is no different. If a guy is digging pull tabs it's because they are looking for gold. Some screw caps come in high and can't be passed. Once you get more time on your new machine you won't dig pull tabs unless you want to....while looking for gold...just like any other machine. Good luck with your new machine. Dean
  5. Nice finds, Steve! The way you have your machine set up is a fun way to hunt. Lots less trash of the aluminum kind and no pesky zinc. I found a silver ring with opal in it a couple of weeks ago as well. It is now the property of my wife . Dean
  6. Nice work! It's a fun machine. I stated before that I've yet to be surprised by an iffy target being something good. You can tell when there is a good target surrounded by junk due to the machine's incredible recovery speed and laser beam separation. So far, if I get good tones from 90* and stable numbers (just a couple digit bounce) it's a target worthy of a dig. If the numbers bounce around a lot and I'm unable to get a "lock" or only good tones from just direction and a grunt from the other...it's junk every time. I did something kinda fun the other day. I only had a very short time to hunt so I decided to cherry pick only the higher tones. So I disc"ed everything out below 22. I haven't ever dug a IHP here and didn't want to hear zinc. Wow, talk about quiet! I went home with a BIG handful of copper pennies, dimes, and quarters. No silver, unfortunately. It is amazing how many good targets you can dig when you don't waste time chasing the bad! You can cover so much ground with this machine due to it's speed. It's a cherry picking monster. Dean
  7. Gonna give that a try this weekend. Thanks! Have to agree with Strick, though. Dean
  8. Nice finds, Strick! Like Cal said, after a while you just stop digging those really iffy signals. Start trusting in the machine, I guess. Dean
  9. No noticable lag for me either. Love the headphones. Pinpointing with them is right on. Dean
  10. Wow! Beautiful coin. Like Cal said, "unobtainium" out here in AZ. Congratulations! Dean
  11. Great hunt and great report, Cal. Many thanks! I discovered my head phones to still be on one morning after a evening hunt. I know that i had gone through the motions of turning them off but somehow failed to do so. Now I check twice to make sure. Dean
  12. Looks like you are getting along with the Nox just fine. Dean
  13. On coins, no. It's not too accurate on odd sized/shaped relics, though. It is calibrated for coin sized objects so that would make sense. Dean
  14. I agree with steveg's thoughts. Just like the other multi frequency units the GB isn't as critical as SF in most ground. I've only run in to a couple of places where the machine got "out of balance" and had to change it from the factory presents ( or where it auto GBed) in that mode. Swinging a GPX a lot gives you a good ear for that slightly out of balance state. I've found that while being in multi if the machine becomes unbalanced, I go in to the GB mode and manually adjust the GB setting just a number or two until the machine is stable again. It doesn't take much. Kind of like the auto tune feature on the GPX. You let the machine find the most quiet frequency first and, after a while, it may get a little noisy. Then usually all that is required is to go in and adjust up or down a coulple of numbers and she's quiet again. Hope that made sense. Dean
  15. I use the same LiPo set up with the Deteknix wireless phones. No more being tethered to the machine. Dean
  16. Congratulations on your excellent finds. What Vez said, " trust your machine". This, of course takes some time on the machine and learning it's language. I've got maybe 70 hours on the 800 and am growing more trusting of what it is telling me. I've yet to be surprised by an iffy signal being something good. This is gonna sound obvious, but the good targets sound good. The bad targets usually have a " tell" . They just don't sound solid. Yes, I get fooled...but I would rather get fooled then to miss a keeper. I've noticed my trash finds to good finds ratio getting closer. Am I leaving a good target behind? Probably. But I don't feel like I've missed any really good ones. I use the VDI numbers as just a rough guide relying more on the sound of the tones. Which is what I guess we all do as we get to know the machine better (any machine). I don't think I will truely be one with the machine until well in to the 100+ hours mark. I sure have dug more coins with the Nox in the short time I've had it than any other. It really likes round shapes. Round shapes sound really good regardless of their composition. Anyway, I'm rambling. Great work! Dean
  17. What TNSS and Cabin Fever said. Use the pin point function. It helps some. Dean
  18. Great report! Sounds very promising for the Culpeper guys. It would seem the Nox handeled the ground very well. dean
