Awesome. I bit the bullet and grabbed a pair too 🙂
How do they feel on the neck?? Do they slide off if you bend over to pick up a 2 ounce nugget off your kitchen floor??? 🙂

Yeah that was my concern too....maybe velcro??
As Redz pointed out, running from pigs or dogs, I wouldnt want to have to stop to pick the thing up 🙂

Making mental note to avoid detecting in FNQ 🙂
very much looking forward to seeing how they go.
I was thinking maybe velcro on unit and on detecting shirt to make sure doesnt fall off???....Or maybe they are normally secure.

Sorry Norvic, feels like we have hijacked your thread!
Theres are a great idea! I have always been a fan of speakers under my ears and I have a pathological (almost neurotic) fear of wild dogs pouncing on my back, so have always avoided headphones!
Looking forward to feeback to see how they go!

Interesting morning chaining....4 little bits....they are getting smaller as i move down....
Love this machine. Easy to use, easy to swing. EMI certainly effects it when you crank the sensitivity up. Managed to stay about half way today. Still screams on these small bits, but much less erratic threshold.
None of these were deep, but just down from these theres a patch of deep looking clay. The 19" will get put over that.
Back tomorrow to chain the top part of the patch!

That would be interesting to know. How much can the sensitivity on the 11 mono be lowered to still have an edge over the 14 DD under EMI conditions?
Well it pinged a 0.61g at about 10 inches with sensitivity on 6, and it was a pull you up kinda signal.
Dunno the answer...will experiment later 🙂
Is it a gain sensitivity setting??? If its like the zed, it is still sensitive on lower settings, just stops extra noise.
Steve might know....

Kingswood, since I see you have other Minelab detectors, perhaps you'd do a little experiment for all of us using the new 6000 to scour your new patch and then hit it AFTER with other detectors. Most reports are of the exact opposite. People rush back to old patches with the newest technology like the 6000 and find what's missed. I'd be very interested to see what your 6000 missed if anything when you go back with the "old" technology.
100% will 🙂 I plan on chaining it with the 6000, then chaining back over it with the GPZ19" 🙂 That will be next weekend 🙂

Just to add, that the manual mentions increasing sensitivity until false signals occur when using the mono. From reading the manual, I still get the feeling that reducing the sensitivity with the mono to reduce the EMI would still punch deeper than the DD. I think.... 🙂

And doing a noise cancel? It is so quick and usually very effective.
Did you try the DD?
Multiple noise cancels....area is close to a telephone tower, so EMI inevitable...
Havent tried to DD yet, I know it would work with the EMI, but wanted to see if you can tame the mono a bit and, yes, yes you can 🙂
I think the DD would be last resort as the 11" is going to be deeper, even with sensitivity down a notch or 2....

Northeast, that is good to know. How about when the 11” mono coil is attached; if you turn the machine off when it is in the normal ground setting, does it return to the default difficult ground setting when powered on again?
Good question. Dunno. Will try tomorrow for you 🙂
It does seem to remember manual sensitivity settings.

Better day today. Old patch that has been hammered and someone salted it with lead shot!!
The EMI which I thought would be an issue actually was fine so managed to stay with the mono.
Found my first 6000 bit...all 0.14g of it ha ha
It was actually the most fun I have had detecting in ages. This thing is a pleasure to use.
The small bit gave a loud signal...tested it in normal and difficult, no difference really at all.
Had a play with threshold off, not really a fan, but it still picked up a lead shot in the 10 minutes I tried it.-

First use. I love it. So easy to swing. Loving that I can use it without a harness.
No gold today, but was more about experimenting.
It likes hot rocks, even in difficult. Not unexpected really. I know these little suckers well and the 7000 likes them too 😉
It seems very sensitive to changes in EMI, but the noise cancel works remarkably well.
Great machine. My new best friend 🙂

No harness, no bungee, no headphones... you may not find gold, but you’ll be comfortable doing it!

My shoulders are literally writing minelab a thank you letter as we speak :).....
Cant wait for Saturday to finally get this thing out thru its paces!!.....Its been a long week at work already while knowing what is in my cupboard!!!

to deal with salt you will need to use the DD coil and that means a heavier coil, but wow is it sensitive to small surface gold, and I do mean WOW 😳
Thanks for the tips JP!!
Having read some of the patents that I think refer to GeoSense, would I be correct in assuming that the DD is actually a very important tool for the 6000? Rather than doing what some people (who havent even used it!!) are saying "Imagine having to go back to DD's....just throw it away and get the 17 mono"?
I think that there is some magic happening under the hood that means the 6000 is perhaps more susceptible to EMI than say a 5000, so the DD becomes very much needed at times.

I think these pictures sum up the GPX 6000 very concisely and also how I feel about those people who continue to suggest my input is biased or just marketing hype!!
From my perspective, when I first started detecting only 5 years ago, I think I pretty much read every word you ever wrote 🙂
This quote been my all time favourite: "There’s no point detecting in ground that is too deep for the detector so I like to keep bedrock in sight at all times"......Advice that has served me well over the last 5 years!!
Thanks JP!

Everyone has their own set of needs, and different machines match those needs differently for different people
100% this!
I know people out my way who kill it on gold every season with old GP extreme's. I know people out here who find bucket loads with their 45's. I also know people who find an ounce or 2 every couple of months with their 7000's and 2300's, mainly in many small bits.
The whole thing for me personally boils down to if physically I can be bothered going out for a few hours. With the 7000, which I still love, I umm and argh most weekends simply due to the pain I know I am going to end up in after 3 hours. The 6000 will change that for me....Patch hunting with a decent chance of finding any sized gold, with much less agony!
We did some work with machinery on one of our leases last August and I swung the 7000 for 5 days straight. It almost ended up wrapped around the nearest tree. Took 6 months before I could move my shoulders normally again 😞
For me, its a hobby. I dont want a hobby to kill me. Thats not fun at all.

Well I have a 6000 in my hot little hands :)...technically its back in the box..
Wont get a chance to get out until next weekend but very excited!
So light, oh so light!!
cant wait to take it out and see how it goes.
I can actually hear my shoulders thanking me :)

My lad (Josh) having a play with the GPX6000.
Awesome thanks JP 🙂 Thats just the 6000 speaker? Sounds nice and loud!
Did you experiment with your booster at all or wasnt one needed?
I use your B&Z boosters with my 7000 and love them.....find I get better control of the audio by using the booster. I actually run the 7000 directly to the booster via cable 🙂
I never detect with headphones due to fear of wild dogs.....would rather hear them before the pounce on my back 😉
I will probably end up trying the 6000 via 1/8 to 1/4 inch cable directly to the booster, then dual speakers :)....unless the speaker is that good that I dont need a booster.

Ergonomically the 6000 is brilliant with the supplied standard 11” mono coil, that coil size is perfect for one handed operation with nil support devices unless you are unused to detecting. The standard 11” coil has the ability, if you care to invest the energy, to find tiny pieces right down to the ‘wet your finger to pick it up’ GM 1000 level!!
JP
Thanks JP! This statement is the key for me anyway! I have buggered shoulders and whilst I love my 7000, I cannot swing it for more than 2-4 hours. Even when doing that short period, I literally am in agony for the next couple of days.
Makes sense to me that if I can swing the 6000 for 6-8 hours, then the extra hours increases the chance of gold. Simply swinging for longer equals more chance of success. My 7000 wont find much gold if its sitting in the cupboard as I am in to much pain to use it There have been plenty of days when I have just not gone detecting as I know whats going to happen after. Hopefully with the lightness of the 6000 I get more time on the ground and much less pain!!
