I'm considering trying the NEL Sharp Shooter and "Snake" coils on my F19 for nugget shooting trashy mineralized old dig sites. Currently I use the small stock DD's (5" puck and 6x10) which work fine but was wondering if anyone has any experience running these NEL coils with the GB Pro or F19, thanks.....Rob

Living all my life in San Diego, I've been traveling Baja for decades off-roading, camping, fishing, diving and even some prospecting. Lots of good times and some close calls involving robbery, car accidents, crooked cops and the military. Generally speaking, Mexicans are welcoming to tourists but foreign prospectors are not considered on the list. Gringos coming into the country and sacking natural resources will attract the wrong attention and if caught the ramifications severe. Last year two guys I know were down there nugget detecting and were arrested and taken into custody just south of El Rosario (about 300 miles south of San Diego) After spending the night in jail and having no idea what to expect, they were suddenly released and told to leave the country.Everything they had; Jeep Rubicon, (2) GPX5000's, money and miscl. camping gear confiscated. They had the cloths on their backs given their passports and THAT'S IT! After walking several hours they were able to catch a ride with some fisherman headed back to LA. I talked to one of them on the phone after the event and the guy was still shook up. He and his partner had been going to Mexico and Baja prospecting for several years(and finding good gold) without issue when their luck suddenly ran out. Even though much was lost, he knows that things could have been a lot worse. These two guys consider their prospecting days in Baja over. Some words of advise to anyone thinking of a prospecting adventure into Mexico; Be prepared, consider all risks / ramifications and don't bring anything down there you can't afford to loose.

This question has been in the back of my mind for a while now. If nugget shooting in mild to moderate ground or even stretches of exposed bedrock in a desert wash, how would the 19kHz GB Pro w/stock 10" DD coil perform compared to the 13 kHz F75 w/ 6.5" or 10" concentric elliptical coils? I was going to PM Steve directly with my question but thought forum participation would be better. Thanks for the input,,,,Rob

Garrett Infinium Discontinued
Hard Prospector replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Garrett Metal Detectors
U.S. detector companies carry themselves a lot like the "Big 3" auto makers did back in the 1970;s; "We will tell Americans what they want in a car and they will learn to like it". Then foreign competition (Japan) broke into the market listening and giving consumers what they were really looking for. It took Detroit over 20 years to finally figure it out and get back on track. -

Las Vegas Gold Show, Feb 27-28 2016
Hard Prospector replied to Tom Harris's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
I've always looked forward to the GPAA Vegas Gold Show but not this year. Having the show venue at a separate location (away from any hotel resort casino) will be inconvenient and not good for attendance if you ask me. The only reason I'm going is for the lectures and classes, but I doubt it will be the same party atmosphere compared to past shows at the South Point -

A buddy of mine was out detecting in a steep wash near Yuma last month when he noticed he was being followed by one of those things only 30 to 50 'from above and behind him. He pulled his Taurus Judge from its holster and took aim.......it hauled ass outta there never to be seen again -
Who Makes TDI Coils For Jimmy Sierra?
Hard Prospector replied to Hobo's topic in White's Metal Detectors
Dan Guyer also made a hand full of TDI 4x6 mono "shooter" coils (yep, same plastic housing as the goldmaster shooter coil) and I have found more small nuggets with this loop than any other TDI coil. Its been my experience, no matter how nasty the ground is I can run my TDI SL at max sensitivity / GB "off" swinging this coil. When I heard Dan had died (God rest his soul) I heard that Whites had little interest building his TDI specialty coils. What a shame but not surprising. -

I've sat in on several of Kevin's seminars and have learned a lot. He's a very smart guy and a wealth of experience but what really sets him apart from others are his great communication / teaching skills.

Can be viewed on the GPAA web site(members only) or get lucky and be in a limited local broadcast area. What irritates me about the whole thing is that for years, the GPAA television shows were aired on the Outdoor Channel which was a big reason why I paid the subscription. Recently, the Massies sold the Outdoor Channel then turned direction of the GPAA over to someone else in the family who obviously has different ideas and nope...not a member.

Ran the GB Pro for years and loved it, then the F19 came out and had to buy one. Did extensive bench testing between the two using the same DD 6x10 factory coil. I took 12 coarse gold/quartz specimens ( 2 gram or less) for the sensitivity testing on the two machines. The results were very close; the F19 sounded off on all pieces where as the GB Pro nailed 10 of the 12 (it struggled on the 2 smallest pieces) Called Fisher and shared my results with a tech who commented; "thats interesting" I then asked the tech that I thought the two machines were supposed to be on parity when it came to sensitivity on low conductive targets and he said they're supposed to be. I then asked if there were any software/ program changes between the two machines that could make the F19 more sensitive over the GB Pro under certain circumstances and his reply was; "possibly"......OK I get it and thanked him for his time, the GB Pro is now back-up to my F19. I think a field test between the FORS Gold+ and the F19 would be most interesting.
