  1. Swimming with icebergs? Dude, your nuts ; )
  2. Yikes! If I understood it correctly air in the suit was giving you trouble in regards to swimming, or staying upright, head above water? I could see how that might be a problem but not insurmountable if you were 100%? At that time were you incapacitated from sucking water? I've only had one near drowning and hopefully no more.
  3. Hey I missed this adventure you had. Do you have a link to the juicy details?
  4. Ha! I just today found a musket ball. Looks like .680 diameter. Quickie interwebs research looks like the Brown Bess was built in .75 and .69 Not clear to me if both calibers were made at the same time or if it was a change over the years.
  5. I like the way you think! Are you thinking manned? I can see many benefits to making it remotely operated. Safer, smaller, lighter. Sorry, I have no money to invest.
  6. I find that hard to believe as I've never seen a snake jump 3 feet in the air, shriek like a girl, and pee its pants.
  7. Lets see... a girl with a metal detector. Think I'd be makin' my move ; ) And you are making assumptions she lost something. I think she is nugget hunting and doing so well she was not gonna leave until its hunted out. Nuggets so big she can hit them down through all that snow. Yeah, I think outside the box sometimes.
  8. You might be on to something there. I can see how nails would all give the same, or similar ID. 'Ya know I do not even look at what the ID is doing when it sounds iron. I just scan the ground 'till I get a VCO/high tone that alerts me to a non-ferros target, then I glance at the ID. Right or wrong I pay no attention to the junk. Yes there was a building there, 5 story high and burnt down to the ground line. Now I definitely feel the need to dig the junk to see exactly what it is. Will report.
  9. Yes, in the video there was a quick 60 and notice how I go back for another look, but it doesn't come up again. Thats why I want to try a small coil. Less targets under the coil to give the disc circuit less to think about. I did not bother digging it. Nickels give a solid repeatable 58 and old pull tabs are 62 and can vary, sometimes conveniently a 58. And I do not actually know what all that junk is in the ground, never dug any to find out, just assumed nails. I do see burnt wood/charcoal in the ground. Been thinking about digging some poor targets to see, just havnt yet. Possibly bog iron? Was it KAC that said he has seen worse? OK you win the Trashy Ground Award.LOL
  10. Monte. Fantastic, well thought out, concise information. And thanks for not yelling at me with an explanation mark at the end of every sentence. I need to make a correction. I had mentioned "large iron blowing through the discrimination". In hindsight I now realize it was operator error, the disc was NOT turned up far enough and it was giving low grunts on iron, perfectly normal and I would not want a future reader to think the GB has poor iron disc. Just for fun I made a short video of the ground trash. The worst I've ever seen, cant even find a clean spot to ground balance on and its like this everywhere. No way I'm gonna clear all that iron, I'll leave some targets for someone else. Be interesting to see what others think of it, if they have seen worse.
  11. Us knowing what your swinging would be a great help! Gold Bug with 11 inch coil. Some say it has good separation. So far I have only "accidentally" dug one piece of iron. How does knowing which detector I am using help with a question of smaller coil size? Would not the answer be the same for all detectors? Honest question. I have been running just enough discrimination to eliminate iron but still the strong iron targets blow though. Annoying to listen to but the bigger problem is iron masking. I can see how a small coil will be trying to identify less, or only one target at a time. What I've seen is....brief coin signal/TID, scan back and forth 10 times an 9 of those swings its saying iron, should move on but OK I'll dig, out comes a coin. Need to stack the odds in my favor. Boy I don't think cleaning up all the iron sigs will work, take too much time and place will look like a battlefield. Maybe on the sandy beach but no way in the grassy park areas. Cranking up the disc to eliminate all below copper penny/dime for an initial attack may be a good idea. Or will it? I'd still have to go back over everything again ( time) and the iron is still there. Only benefit would be to get the high conductors before someone else comes along and beats me to it. I am curious to find out though if higher disc will reduce the large iron blow though. Haven't had this detector very long and it would be an interesting experiment. Yesterday got a silver earing, rust bubbling though the plating, junk. Nice condition gold necklace, no karrot markng, the chain is magnetic but the pendant is not. Both "visual" finds on surface. Got me wondering, SMALL/FINE gold necklace chains, are they always plated steel for strength or are there solid gold chains? I suspect in the smaller sizes even say 12k might be just too delicate but I don't know.
  12. So I somehow discovered a fresh water beach that looks like its never been hunted. Yeah! But I now realize why. The trash is INSANE! A large building burned down here in 1930. Great place for a beach right? LOL Makes as much sense as me just ordering a 5 inch coil so I can collect a small handfull of coins. Although I will know soon enough.......will a small coil be a significant help? Or, it will help but dont expect miracles.
  13. I'd go miners moss over ribbed carpet and use a normal hose clamp on the pressure hose.
  14. Now I aint no meteorite expurt but I thinks you have..... black rocks.
  15. Doh! I just noticed the original posting date.
  16. Have you tried to put batteries in it yet? I'm sure the tape deck is junk but how cool would it be if the radio worked!?
  17. Was thinking I might have to hire Russian hackers to get me in but the site administer replied to me email and he got me set up. All good now.
  18. Been trying for more than a week now. Just emailed the administrator. Fingers crossed.
  19. Is anyone here a member on the Geotech forum? Is it still active? I was able to create a username and password but I never received the validate email. Trying to browse the forum and I still seem locked out. Yes I have checked my spam folder.
  20. So I been working in this Honey Hole, not Honey Bucket thats entirely different, and feeling its pretty much worked out. The finds I've got are scattered in a couple other posts. Figured I'd give it a quick scan as I walk past it to check other areas and find an earing, also the matching earing to a previous find, a quarter, few more gold pennies. Solid signals. How did I miss these? Seems a lesson learned, no matter how good you think you have worked an area.....you probably missed some targets. Or....I've got the latest and greatest XYZ digital Wonder and the last time someone hunted this area they must have been using some antique analog machine...well, maybe they just plain missed them. Sortta humbling somehow.
  21. OK so it sounds like painting things gold is a "thing"? LOL. Went back tonight and I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel, couple real cheap kiddie jewelry pieces and 3 more alum foil wrapped pennies. Not worth a picture. KellyCo this is my new Gold Bug DP purchased from you only a week or two ago. Thank you. Havin' a ball! Only regret is I should have got the equivalent in Bounty Hunter or Teknetics.
  22. Pulled out one more penny last night and a bracelet. I am by no means a jewelry ID expurt but it does not appear to be plated. No hallmark.
  23. Been searching in an old sand pit. First time there( testing a new detector) I had found 2 pieces of gold and silver jewelry and oddly some pennies wrapped in aluminum foil. Can tell kids play there, dunno what they are thinking. But I go there in the evening for a quickie and maybe find more jewelry? Last night I start finding pennies again but now they are painted gold? Then Bam! I find a literal cache of them about 10 or 12 inches down. So dense I just reach in with my hand and pull out fists of them. After I feel I got them all I start searching nearby for more and the next signal is a gold broach(?) but like the previous jewelry turns out to be plated junk, but in very nice condition. Now my best guess is the kids must be making "pirate coins" and what do you do with pirate treasure? You bury it! And hey, lets bury some of mommy's jewelry. LOL So I have found my first buried pirate cache. Somehow not what I had dreamed it might be though. And kids if you are reading this.....does mommy have any good jewelry you want to play with? Or Dads Rolex?
  24. GB maybe I wasnt clear. ^^ These ARE from my new GB DP. And yes am familiar with the variants but I was so focused on the Vanquish 540 vs GB (mis-spoke in the original post, I had written Equinox 540) that I had not checked pricing of the G2/+. Had "blinders " on so to say. I think the F19 is same $ or more? Never checked price of G2 until AFTER ordering the GB. Much cheaper. Son of a ...!!! For a moment had considered "maybe return it for the G2?" Nah ,cant do that, guess I got taken. Live and learn.
