  1. Been searching in an old sand pit. First time there( testing a new detector) I had found 2 pieces of gold and silver jewelry and oddly some pennies wrapped in aluminum foil. Can tell kids play there, dunno what they are thinking. But I go there in the evening for a quickie and maybe find more jewelry? Last night I start finding pennies again but now they are painted gold? Then Bam! I find a literal cache of them about 10 or 12 inches down. So dense I just reach in with my hand and pull out fists of them. After I feel I got them all I start searching nearby for more and the next signal is a gold broach(?) but like the previous jewelry turns out to be plated junk, but in very nice condition. Now my best guess is the kids must be making "pirate coins" and what do you do with pirate treasure? You bury it! And hey, lets bury some of mommy's jewelry. LOL So I have found my first buried pirate cache. Somehow not what I had dreamed it might be though. And kids if you are reading this.....does mommy have any good jewelry you want to play with? Or Dads Rolex?
  2. GB maybe I wasnt clear. ^^ These ARE from my new GB DP. And yes am familiar with the variants but I was so focused on the Vanquish 540 vs GB (mis-spoke in the original post, I had written Equinox 540) that I had not checked pricing of the G2/+. Had "blinders " on so to say. I think the F19 is same $ or more? Never checked price of G2 until AFTER ordering the GB. Much cheaper. Son of a ...!!! For a moment had considered "maybe return it for the G2?" Nah ,cant do that, guess I got taken. Live and learn.
  3. Under "meet and Greet" ,my first posting, I had mentioned I am needing to get a new detector as my ol'Garrett had died (but I have since fixed, yeah!). Was torn between the Equinox 540, looks like a pretty nice machine but as I have an original Gold Bug and know what it can do I sure wanted the new Gold Bug DP but the price is a bit painful for my budget ( unemployed). Well my new GB arrived yesterday! Took it out for a quickie last night just to get acquainted with it, to a sand pit, sure wouldn't expect much old goodies as the topsoil was ripped off years ago to mine sand. Been abandoned for a while now though, kids partying, stolen cars getting burnt, target practice, etc but hey...stuff gets lost everywhere...'ya never know. Wasnt there 5 minutes and got a big heavy gold ear ring! Whoo-Hoo! Few minutes later, silver ear ring! Looks gold-ish in the picture but in real life silver colored. Well excitement wore off after looking at it under an eye loupe, plated junk and slightly magnetic but gold just the same. Also found an electrical connector with gold pins and 3 copper pennies.
  4. OK, my turn for a stupid question. Why did you choose un-shielded vs shielded? No option to ground the shield at the control box end?

    Hello

Flight instructor gave me that nickname due to my two loves in life,OK I have too many interests to count actually. Flying and sled dogs. AKA Flydog
  6. Perhaps more interest with a wider date range? I was interested but my oldest detector is 1995-ish so a no go for me.

    Hello

OK regarding the for sale posting thing. Now in my defense, other than my last sentence "make me an offer if interested" my intention of the whole post was to get a feel for the salability of an original GB, and judging by the replies I'm guessing there would be little interest. I do not want to deal with the Craigslist crowd or Ebay so I guess I will keep it. Brief rambling intro. Detecting since the 90's, not active last several years, recently getting the urge to get out so I go to my old detecting partners house to drag him out only to find he died of a stroke. Lost interest somehow after hearing that but couple days ago got out on my own anyways, feels weird. Sonna of a .... my detector isnt working right! Thus why I am looking for a new one. Blah, blah, blah , I should write country music right? LOL

    Hello

Hi all. Long time listner, first time poster. Rather than a rambling introduction I have a Question. It appears I am in the market for a new detector. I have an original Fisher Gold Bug in an honest "new condition", I love it and never thought I would part with it but.... do you think it would be an easy sell, or perhaps none wants these old antiques? What would be a fair price? Only reason for me to sell it would be to fund a Gold Bug DP....if I go that route, may go for the Minelab Vanquish 540 and keep the GB.....or maybe couple other detectors I'm mulling over. Said another way, make me an offer if interested.
