  1. The object is to use a low frequency which has difficulty detecting as another aid to identifying  gold as small gold will not register whereas other metals do. For example in field 1 and 4khz and sensitivity at 10 all metals including aluminium which has a low conductivity register whereas gold does not. By the altering the sensitivity I am able to hear all other trash but not gold nuggets, thereby assisting in the decision making as to whether to dig or not. At sensitivity 10 small gold has stopped registering whereas trash ie. iron aluminium etc is still registering at sensitive 1 the lowest you can go. 

    This would be suggesting that you dig. If the target is registering down to 1 then it would be trash or large gold. This is not foolproof but is just an aid to decision making. This is a reversal of the normal thought process when deciding . Cheers 

  2. I was wondering if anyone has used the different frequencies to give a better idea as to whether to dig or not. Using a.0.5gm gold as a target, the nox 800 identified a target in gold  multi. I then switched to field 1 in 40khz and it detected the target. I then switched to 4khz and no noise. I have then tried this on an old nail, a tin lid, a lead sinker, a drink tab and all were identified as a target whereas the gold wasn't. Has anyone tried this or a variation using other combinations and had success. This is using the principle of the lower the frequency the less likely it will detect gold as an aid to finding it. .   3.  have been prospecting in an area with a lot of old gold mines in North Queensland using a Nox 800. Generally the area is benign, being on gold 1 and sensitivity of around 20.in an area of about 3x3 km. I was Detecting in one area when the nox went into high level chatter. One next to Creek and one in the creek. Both areas were about 4x4 m, once I moved the detector away from the area every thing became normal with chatter normal. I noticed some black sands in this area. Could a concentration of this be causing the chatter.

  5. I already have a V440, GF 66 and a GM1000. I am getting too old to be digging all day and would rather walk in preference to digging. Thus I prefer sites where it is lesser known so it has not been worked to death. I don't dig beyond 6in and work on the principle that the old timers the old have missed the eluvial and alluvial that was lying just below the surface. Also the fact that not many have hunted there. Anyway that's my rationale for gentlemenly prospecting. After waffled on above what are your thoughts on the best detector that will find gold larger than 1 gm down to 6ins ie not interested in the tiny pieces .Also can find coins etc if possible. I am not interested in 2300,7000 etc as they are well outside my price range. If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it thanks.

  6. I have just joined your site and it's excellent. Over the last 3 years I have been Detecting with a V440 then a GM1000 for Gold prospecting in the back blocks of queensland australia. I have in my backyard buried coins and lead sinkers for experience and learning. I recently purchased a go find 66 to play with as I am an old coot thus I would rather walk all day and only dig down to 6in than digging all day deep down for nails. I found with the GF66 in heavy clay that it will pick up 10 and 8mm lead balls at 3in no problem but is marginal on 6mm, very iffy. Now if I use the pinpointer on the GF 66 it finds it no problem loud and clear. I am intrigued as to why. Is it using a higher frequency or a smaller virtual coil. In retrospect I feel it could be a change in volume so please  ignore.

    Tests done in mineralised soil GM 6 all metal. GF22. and GF66 Max. Sensitivity all metal. Interesting result. As I don't dig below 6in and prefer to spend more time covering an area than digging in lesser known locations. 

    QUESTION. CAN YOU USE THE GF22 8in coil on the GF66 if you made an adapter?
