Movin Up River With Gold Mak
californiagold replied to californiagold's topic in Nokta / Makro Metal Detectors
Jerry, Most detector screens suffer glare in the sun. gold racer's screen with the brite display is pretty good. but you still can get glare. you can buy matte finish, non glare protective film for the display. they work good to cut the glare. I'm not sure of the weight difference between gold racer and Au finder. maybe Steve can list that or maybe has allready. But if knobs and hip mount are what you are looking for maybe Au finder is the good choice. but Gold racer is a great detector, and it is not heavy. Good luck on whatever you get. -

Movin Up River With Gold Mak
californiagold replied to californiagold's topic in Nokta / Makro Metal Detectors
Haha Paul. I'm glad the bear didnt get hungry. Id hate to have to feed it my only gold racer while I ran. actually it is not uncommon to see bears. I see them or their sign alot. but they do get hungry this time of year. I usually like to go with a partner. so then all I have to do is run faster then them. . lol but in all seriousness never run from a bear. -
Movin Up River With Gold Mak

Hey Lanny. I like both Gold Racer and Fors plus. I like Gold Racer slightly better mainly because of design. it does sound off a little better on fringe targets aswell. but I will still use the Fors plus alot more too. -

Hello, I headed back out to the old channel area to move up river some. atleast I think it is upriver. There is old diggings everywhere. So I started at one end and zig zagged everywhere. surprisingly I really never got a patch going. Most the pieces were not even close to each other. Everytime I found one, I stopped and searched the whole area really good. but no patch evolved. so I moved on till the next piece then repeated my technique. nothing but lonely pieces every once in awhile. I had to cross small creeks, fight my way thru thick brush and even jumped a bear. I was a little nervous at jumping the bear because I forgot my 45 pistol at home. when I jumped him it was in a box canyon with steep walls so I had him trapped between the walls and me. luckily he flew up the steep hill like it was flat ground. also saw about 20 lizards today, but so far no rattlers. it was a beautiful day in the woods but very physical. Luckily the Gold Racer sniffed out some gold and made the day not to bad. Only found 6.53 dwt for all that work. Not sure how much the area will produce. But I will try it again soon.

Correct Bait To Catch A Nugget!
californiagold replied to LuckyLundy's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Congrads on your success and Happy birthday. By the way were you fishing on the bottom or did you jig the worm up and down to entice the nuggets. good technique. -
Hey Terry, I'm not sure what part of oregon that you are headed to. But there is good gold there. eastern oregon was responsible for 2/3 of oregons gold production. but S.W. Oregon has some great pocket gold deposits. There is animals , bugs, snakes etc everywhere in oregon. So i'd just be prepared for anything. Though you probably wont have any troubles. If your coming from the east coast way out here. I would probably get some good research done before hand. it would help your odds. unless you have someone who knows where to go. Hope you have some luck.

Pinpoint And Depth: Necessary Or Not?
californiagold replied to californiagold's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Once in awhile on fors plus I try to use pinpoint button to ground balance. so far it is not working out for me. ive ground balanced the fors plus a hundred times. but I think I get that left brain right brain thing going on and hit the wrong button -
Pinpoint And Depth: Necessary Or Not?
californiagold replied to californiagold's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Yeah if a detector comes with it all ready; some might use these features. But if they dont, maybe they can sell them cheaper. do some detectorist find that they have to have these for what they detect for. I know nowdays even with cars. Every little feature just makes the car more expensive. For instance, a car that will parallel park it self. I think everybody can do that themselves. would people pay for something like that or save a little money. same with detectors, what features are absolutely needed for their line of detecting. -
Pinpoint And Depth: Necessary Or Not?
californiagold replied to californiagold's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
I was mainly talking about built in pinpointers on detectors norvic. But yeah, handheld pinpointers are definitely a good tool for situations like digging big deep pi holes or gpz. especially just to make sure you didnt dig 2 feet past the target, when it was in the side of the hole all along. and some also want to see where the target is before they destroy it will the pick. -
I thought I would see how much pinpoint and depth is actually used with different detectorist. or are these features even needed for every day detecting. maybe without them, manufactors could even cut the cost alittle. personally, I have rarely ever used these features. most anyone, including myself have developed an eye to coil coordination and usually are near spot on when digging out a target. even after awhile a novice detectorist seems to develop this skill. after that pinpointing just seems to slow you down. and for depth, is it really necessary to know how deep your target is. maybe it is needed, maybe not. and for some detectors including the fors line. the button does bother some. it kinda cuts down on your options of how you can hold the joystick. anyway it would be interesting to see what other detectorist think, and their uses for these features. or are they a real deal breaker in considering a detector purchase.

Nokta New Relic Detector
californiagold replied to Ridge Runner's topic in Nokta / Makro Metal Detectors
I know what your sayin Ray, but I was talkin about real junk, like modern bullets or old rusty junk. but they did find a bunch of coins in an old tin can. ever since then when I see an old mining camp by some diggings, I switch to disc and go for coins. none yet. but I have found 12 old coins in gold diggings. And a few other valuable items. I have a few left. most I gave to my aunt. Shes a collector. Which comes back to me when shes gone. I will try to get a photo on here soon. -
Nice chunks lunk. glad you met your goal. maybe theres alot more to grab before summer.

Nokta New Relic Detector
californiagold replied to Ridge Runner's topic in Nokta / Makro Metal Detectors
I guess ive owned a few fors relics before. I have a huge assortment of great coins and relics while detecting gold. some really rare finds too. ill have to show some pics someday. only problem with relics to me most people find bullet casings and rusty junk and feel this is treasure. how much money does bullets and rusty spoons bring at an auction anyway.. to me the best relic is Gold. its alot older and is prettier. it is always harder to find as well. so when you find it there is a great sense of accomplishment. Good luck
