  1. I'm absolutely with you there Steve. Hardly ever use a pick holder. If swinging the Zed I have used the minelab harness & just tuck the pick off my hip through the harness waist belt. It holds the pick up fairly high & it isn't dangling around my legs which at times has caused me to trip on it getting in-between my legs. D4G
  2. It is pretty easy to take photos or footage & not give locations away. Some might recognise a general area, province or state due to the lay of the land or types of bush/growth but not an exact spot. Those that do are, well, asking for trouble. So point taken Norvic with your concerns. They are real & have been happening for years. It was great to follow the Gold Hounds but they stopped showing there stuff due to people stalking them in trying to find/follow to their locations. Not to mention the amount of lost time from actually doing what they needed to do in finding gold by doing their videoing & editing etc. After all, it was their living & the time is precoius when out there. D4G
  3. @Norvic How come you missed that gold? 🙄 Mind you, so did Dale & Trent from the Gold Hounds, & JP. Your back yard is a BIG back yard though. D4G
  4. Woody can prattle on a bit. I reckon he should have taken the Algerforce approach & just hit the market with it when it is all done & up & running taking the world by surprise. Cats out of the bag now. D4G
  5. A Kiwi boy in far north Queensland. D4G
  6. Overburden is the bane of us detectorists, all gold mining for that matter. That sucker would make short work of getting down to some detectable ground/bedrock. D4G
  7. Why sadly? Isn't the name of the game to be as efficient as you can & hopefully leave very little to nothing behind. After all, it was their livelihood. The Chinese were very methodical & thorough & worked together very efficiently & made claims left behind by European miners pay. That is why they were a bit/lot despised. Talking of Chinese miners in NZ it Looks like your mate put this link up on our local forum the other day. https://community.paydirt.co.nz/t/history-of-chinese-gold-miners-in-otago/8270 D4G
  8. Good for you Lanny. I have read many of your adventures on one or two forums over the years. You are very gifted with the pen, or should I say keyboard. All the best of luck to you. D4G
  9. Hi Phrunt. Any chance you could wave your E1500 over that little sucker & tell us how it does, maybe your gold monster, GB2 & Garrett 24K too? Cheers. Any gold is better than no gold & even a tiny bit like that .009 piece is still gold & you can go home & say you found a piece of gold. Does size matter? My girlfriend says "It's not the size that matters, but the way you use it."😂 D4G
  10. "Look for gold where gold has been found before." That is the number one key to someone starting out in their search for gold. Takes out a lot of guess work with a higher chance of finding something. Research is definitely required for places to go. Gary "two toes" has to be one of the best on you tube. Very down to earth, no ego or over inflated BS & explains it all so simply & with great tips & hints. Shares many home made methods of making equipment & gear he users. I have followed him for years. Nice to revisit this video. Thanks Gold Catcher. D4G
  11. I don't think it is a matter of how small it needs to be but just what is left out there to be found at all. D4G
  12. Effort & reward. You have to put in the hard yards & go the extra mile. No other way around it. D4G
  13. Most people, if not all, hate flies. If they are going to be a problem to you & you can't deal with them then I don't think it is going to matter what your choice of travel/accommodation would be. This possibly isn't going to be for you. There are one or two flies out there. But to answer your question I would say a caravan towed by a real 4X4, as you can park it up, detach & use it as a base. There are some great off road type set ups in Aussie. If you had a ute type 4x4 or flat deck you could also pack in a quad bike to get even more remote in difficult terrain. Depends how serious you are. D4G
  14. MMMmm, talking of JP. I wonder if he got an E1500, & if so what his thoughts are on it. Does any one know? D4G
  15. As per the video link Jin put up. 👍 Exactly as I do it. D4G
  16. As deathly quiet as it is Simon hasn't inundated us with gold finds. So while this detector has all these cool functions the gold isn't flooding in like it has been with the GPX 6000 & the amounts of small gold it has been rewarding people with. Despite the E1500 being about a third of the price, at the end of the day it is the gold count that matters to a lot of people. It is actually a sad state of affairs that we are now gloating over detectors that find the smallest most tiniest bits of gold. D4G
  17. You could also get your 4500 modified by Woody of Detector Mods. Redz has mentioned Woody's EMI filter. D4G
  18. Hi guys. I came across this on you tube. This could be a game changer for those deeper big slugs. D4G
  19. Yes, sad news to hear of Toby Keith's passing. He had been dealing with stomach cancer for a while. RIP Toby. D4G
  20. Yes, true that. It is interesting following the info he is giving on the E1500 & it is giving me a good handle on it for gold here in NZ. Do I get one, or not? We are both on the same land mass so it is very good info for me. Thank you Phrunt. D4G
  21. I am guessing that you found no gold as you haven't posted about it, & I am sure you would have had you found some. Obviously you had a long day looking but came up empty handed on the gold. If you were hunting old past producing grounds then this detector is no miracle machine despite its cool features. How was your shotgun pellet count? If getting pellets then there is every possibility that each one of those signals could have been a piece of gold. D4G
