  1. Coiltek and Nuggetfinder have both been making compatible coils for Minelabs, a long time. That said you may have a warranty issue if you get a very rare defective coil...it does happen. Minelab coils are often underrated...they are as good as any in my opinion.... I suggest you use the mono and dd coils that came with the detector, learn the machine, read the manual... and then you too can buy 15 different coils...just teasing, I have been there fred
  2. You are a brave soul, Andyy...thanks for the info. Coil discussions tend to go on and on and on... I appreciate the effort to get these approximations-the process is way too boring for me. The Russian X coils have livened up my reading, thank you MR. Russia. If I wanted one I would not be jumping in until the whole connection issue is solved. I had to repair one broken wire on a DD commander coil...what a pain! And, the price is way too much for me to spend at this point in my detecting life... please keep us informed fred
  3. You better get some vitamins for Paul...he is gonna need them! fred
  4. Thanks, Condor; It ain't easy to find gold, even harder in unfamiliar terrain and English that is not always easy to understand. I look forward to a campfire chat... fred
  5. Perhaps Chase Goldman can answer you better. I would turn the discrimination all the way up, if I wanted to use a 4500 for relics...that may eliminate some small iron... fred
  6. Andyy; I presume you mean made for nugget hunting, not tuned; which implies something not possible, as far as I know. fred
  7. sometimes I wonder what a parent is thinking...I had a relative named Harry, last name Balls... Another time my Bro and I were playing racquet-ball....while taking a break a lady came in looking for her husband. What's his name..." Dick Sweat, she said"...we laughed and said there was no way we would ask for Dick Sweat...so, she changed it to Richard and we found the correct Dick... fred
  8. Nice stuff! I hate the smear every detectorist gets because of those slobs and idiots.... fred
  9. Fred Mason is who I am except on Robs forum . I am easily confused when someone uses a different name on every forum. I just keep my life as simple as my wife will allow....
  10. Don’t be picking on Mitchel! That is my job! just teasing, good haul fred
  11. Something is wrong. either with your technique or with the machine. read the manual a few times fred
  12. WOW, Steve that is quite radical. One detector for nearly everything rather than an entire herd. I am down to two(Gpz and 800)...probably will sell the 7000 when I finally yield to good sense... but the 800 stays to the end! Maybe...... thanks
  13. You are just getting grumpy,Klunker...go find some more gold...and post some pictures, please fred
  14. You are just a troublemaker,Paul...of the very best quality! did you find some thumpers yet? fred
  15. Phrunt; I may have missed it but... steel pans must be cleaned and maybe burned to rid the grease...the gold will float away with grease. You want a pan that you use to be a" little bit on the trashy side"...like-well never mind that. fred
  16. In reference to hand-Made coils, Reg Sniff made me a DD coil for my small, very light Goldquest...it worked very well. I wish I had taken it to Moore Creek! on the other hand, wanting to be on the cutting-edge I bought the first Goldscan 5... after a while And many problems I learned the maker that had a great reputation was training his new son in law...that didn’t,t work for me...or him. The point is that pride and skill have everything to do with quality of construction. And it cured my desire to be an “early adopter” fred
  17. Thanks Strick, my whole memories have become half memories, you supplied the critical information. fred
  18. Gerry, The eastern/western mag ran an article when someone dredged below the bridge...that was early 1980 s...time for someone else if it is still legal! might have the wrong mag name fred
  19. Please stop teasing me...it hurts so much!!! Have a great and continuing adventure, Paul! fred
  20. And a very civil site it is! Thank you, Steve! fred
