  1. Well I finally picked up a barely used Legend with the 1.11 update. It also came with the additional LG24 and LG30 coils. I must say that the update and coils make a huge difference compared to the first Legend I had. I felt like my first Legend had issues with the speaker. I had sound, but it was very muffled and inconsistent. It would cut in and out and seemed laggy sometimes going over a target. This one has super clean tones. Do you think Nokta will eventually make a concentric coil for the Legend? Anyway... I'm glad I took another chance on the Legend. I'm really happy with the performance of the LG24 coil. Thanks for the advice.
  2. Thanks again for the added information. The Quest V80 looks to be a great detector, but I'm reluctant to buy it due to the lack of support from the company and dealers in the USA. At least that is what I've been reading. It could be old information. I'm pretty set on trying the Legend again. If I were to buy a used Legend that was recently purchased, is the warranty transferable to the next owner? I'm guessing it would not be. Thanks for the responses.
  3. This is exactly why I love this forum. Thanks for the solid responses. I was unaware about the needed antenna for the Orx while hunting in the water. That is definitely not ideal. I will research the recommended Quest detectors and if a decent deal comes through with the Legend, I will definitely give it another go. Thanks again.
  4. I bought a new Legend when it first released, but never tried the 6" coil or the last 3 firmware updates. At the time, I felt the Impact was just as good or better, so I sold the Legend. I really gel with the Impact and the menu settings for checking iffy targets. It has been really good to me and I believe Nokta hasn't discontinued the Impact yet for a reason. The All-Metal modes are pretty sweet. If it was waterproof and had the ability to switch to 40 khz I would be completely satisfied. I was having a hard time with the Legend in iron and didn't see a depth increase compared to the Impact. I even preferred using my modified Whites IDX over the Legend at the time. I know that I probably did not give the Legend enough time, but I really felt like I had a weak unit, so I parted ways with it. I want to do more water hunting and increase my gold/ring finds this year. I may eventually like to target micro jewelry, but it is not a priority. I will mainly hunt fresh water lakes with the occasional trip to a saltwater beach. My soil is mild. I know the Orx is not waterproof, but the detachable remote can be placed in a waterproof bag. I like this concept, and the hidden cord from the coil reminds me of the Impact. I have zero experience with XP or Deus products, so I'm definitely concerned. Should I try the Legend again or take a chance on the Orx? I'm obviously a fan of Nokta because of the Impact, and the Legend is already completely waterproof and capable of hitting small gold. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would also consider other detectors that would fit my needs. However, I only want to spend about $600, and so far I have had good luck buying used detectors. Thanks in advanced.
  5. That is a beautiful machine Tony! Is the orange item next to the detector the battery compartment that slides in the back? It is quite different from what I have seen with this unit. I assume this might be a special Australian design for a specific battery type. I'm very curious about that, so please educate me on this. Send me a direct message if you ever decide to sell this beauty. Nice pics and set up!
  6. On your list... the Whites XL Pro is the only detector I have not tried yet. I've always thought it would be the perfect marriage of the Whites Classic ID and the 6000 Series. Seems like a hard to find/buy detector. Thanks for the comment.
  7. Most of my gold ring finds have been around the towel line at salt water and fresh water beaches. I've only found one in the wet sand. I've dug way more nickels than rings with the Fisher CZ6a. I have only found two thin gold rings in actual dirt at a park. On the CZ most of my ring finds will jump from foil to tab as I sweep over them. Only one ring so far as identified as a nickel and is the largest ring I have found. I've been hunting for 20 years and only hunt salt water beaches once a year. I have only found a total of 13 rings and most have been fairly shallow targets. I have never found a ring on a Whites detector, but have found 2 with a Garrett AT Pro. The Fisher CZ has found the rest. I have often thought about buying another detector setup better for gold and micro jewelry. I probably hunt 4 days a week during the spring and summer months, so that is a lot of time without a ring. It will happen for you. Just do some research and dig everything.
  8. I thought I would add some more published information about Fisher's discrimination scale and gold rings. I still have my Fisher CZ6a and wouldn't mind finding a hot CZ5. It has been my best detector on nickels and gold rings. Ideal discrimination scale that I wish would be revisited with modern tech.
  9. Karelian, Thank you for sharing your experience and posting your army of detectors. There truly is something special about a Whites detector that almost can't be explained, especially the smooth threshold hum and big meter display. It is a shame that the business did not last. Does the "Lock" feature on the XL Pro almost act like a manual ground balance? It seems like the XL Pro or Pro XL are hard to find. I would like to find one with a multi-tone mod, which I know is wishful thinking. Thanks again for your post.
  10. I currently have a Whites 6000/Di Series 3, but always wanted a 5900. I always heard that the blue box 5900 Pro Plus was the best/deepest of the 5900 series. It offered an on/off switch for the SAT by the coil connector and had the GEB Max mode... which I guess was hotter than the later black box 5900. The black box 5900 Pro SL does not have the GEB Max mode because it was replaced with GEB SAT mode. Anyway... the 6000/Di Series 3 also has the GEB MAX mode and Manual Ground Balance (Not the Double Stacked Version), but seems very similar to the blue box 5900 Pro Plus. I know most 6000 detectors have Auto-Trac instead of Manual Ground Balance, but the Series 3 is different. However, it does not have the on/off switch for the SAT like the 5900 blue box. My 6000 Series 3 goes pretty darn deep and that is why I keep it in my stable for relics. I mainly hunt in GEB Norm (All-Metal) and use the GEB Max mode when the ground allows it. It has a silky smooth threshold, ID's in All-Metal mode, filters out awesome on big iron, and I really like the non-motion coil feature that most of my other detectors do not offer. GEB Disc mode is the only mode where you are required to put the coil in motion in order to ID a target, and this detector is super easy to pinpoint with large coils. So is the 6000/Di Series 3 basically the same as the blue box 5900 Pro Plus in performance? I'm still a fan of the older technology, especially with Whites. I've had a Whites MX All Sport and a Nokta Simplex Plus and had zero regrets letting those detectors go. I do need a better gold hunter for micro jewelry and I'm leaning towards a Makro Gold Kruzer because of the waterproof option, but feel an old Gold Bug 2 might be a better. Anyway gentlemen... I would like any advice and comparisons on the Whites 6000/Di Series 3, Blue Box 5900 Pro Plus, 5900/Di Pro SL, and 6000 XL Pro. Is my current 6000 worth keeping? Thanks in advance! This is what I currently have in my stable. Garret AT Pro (Wife's Detector of Choice and Nice on a Rainy Day) Garret Ace 250 (Extra Detector for my Kids or an Inexperienced Hunting Buddy) Fisher CZ6a (Modified by Nasa Tom for Older Sites/Deeper Coins and Does Well on the Beach) Modified Whites Classic 3 SL (Used in Super Trashy Areas and used with the Snooper or Blue Max 600 Coil) Modified Whites IDX Pro (Modified by Sven, which I believe is my Best All-Around Detector while using the Burgundy Royal 800 Coil) Old Blue Box 6000/Di Series 3 (Been using for Deep Relics with a somewhat rare Blue Max 11" 256 Coil)
