60 Years Ago Today - The Great Alaska Earthquake
Doc Bach replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
I will never forget that day I was twelve and was at my Grandparrents home with my family. We were all watching the Ed Sullivan show when the phone rang.Turns out that it was my older brother calling from Crescent City California. He was a patrolman for the local police department and called to let us know about the imminent tidal wave. The following weekend we all drove up there from Ukiah to see the massive destruction first hand. -

Coiltek 10x5 Equinox For Old House Sites
Doc Bach replied to Tyler's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
In my experience the stock 11 coil is really tough to use in heavy trash and especially heavy iron and nail infested sites. It reminds me a lot of my ex Itallian girlfriend after three bottles of vino very irritable and never shuts up.The 6"round works very well with far less falsing and superior separation.I also feel that the Coiltek 10x5 is a very good option in the so called machine gun iron with a little more depth than the 6" round and better coverage.personally I recomend having both. -

1 Out Of 100 Acres, Lots Of Buttons
Doc Bach replied to F350Platinum's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Super copper trade piece Bob. Or who knows possibly an ancient Indian made artifact that predates the other finds by many years?Gotta love that relic program! It's been pretty much exclusive for me the last few months. I use it until I get plumb worn out or when it's not practical then I switch over too fast and cruise along.- 19 replies

Fantastic finds with beautiful patinas! It's almost like you got on a time machine and took a trip back to the middle 1960's. -

Trying To Make Up For Last Year
Doc Bach replied to deathray's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Fantastic relics and artifacts! I laughed out loud when you mentioned that your son was hooked on the steelfish. I resemble that remark and spent twenty plus years as a professional steelhead bum.i was able to fish all over Northern California and Oregon and Vancouver Island. Even though that pretty much put my detecting on the back burner I took advantage and located numerous Native American Artifacts and sites, antique bottles, and detecting sites.Again excellent finds and thanks for sharing. -
Relic program with tweaks is hotter than a pistol.Personally I have had better success with it than any other and that includes a wide open goldfield program.Very consistent array of impressive finds as usual.

Two Warm Days, Two Short Hunts
Doc Bach replied to F350Platinum's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
They were also on the rare occasion produced in copper. My favorite and exceptionally rare ones to dig out here in the west were embossed and from various San Francisco clothier and mercantile agencies dating from the California gold rush period and beyond.I have also been fortunate enough to dig a fair amount of examples of these so called garment or underwear buttons but what I consider to to be shirt buttons that are in my opinion military related. They are always a welcome site indeed when they pop out of the ground.- 15 replies
