  1. Great post SwiftSword!

That dig must have been a blast.I particularly like the Dr.Trues and the heavily embossed Genuine Sandfords medicines.I'm a little surprised that you did not turn up some of the other usual suspects such as marbles, buttons coins and tokens. If you do not have the time to do a little sifting make sure to try and get back after a good rain and see what might turn up.Nice photos and story and thanks for posting.

I got the itch and had to try out some other stuff. I am not gonna get into it all. However after a couple of rounds with one particular competitors newer unit......I realized I screwed up!!!

Not gonna do that any more.

So back to XP with the orx, deus 1 and ws6 master.

They just work better for me than anything else I have used.

I know they may not be perfect but for me I don't think there is a better unit. Even if I had to just go back to one XP ORX unit i would have be happier before i sold off my other xp stuff to try out the latest and improved competitors machine.

In other words....if your used to something....and know it well....don't do what I did and try to see if the grass is greener on the other side!!!!

    It wasn't for me!!!

Good on you bigtim! I too feel that one of the best decisions that I have made in awhile was to hang onto my deus 1 with all of the coils except for the round eleven. And that comes with some criticism from some of the naysayers who believe that it is obsolete since the release of the d2.It's funny that prior to the release of the d2 the original deus particularly with it's HF coils was the best thing to come along since sliced bread.

The thing that stumps me are the English letters that I can’t make out…thought it was Chinese pipe at first till I saw them. Thanks for the tip re American Digger, I think I’ll do that.

I'm pretty certain that the English were the key players in the opium trade.I would guess Hoffman on the script.

Hey Peg. In light of your recent photo which gives the mystery item a bit of an asian flavor I'm starting to lean towards Chucks opinion about it possibly being a smoking pipe with a removable bowl.Opium pipes in particular and hash pipes in more recent times had removable bowls so that they could be cleaned and to collect the squeezins only to be enjoyed again.Frankly I'm surprised that some of the more knowledgeable relic guys and researchers on this forum haven't pinned it down by now.If you do not get a solid identification on it you might consider contacting Butch and Anita Holcombe at American Digger Magazine.Send the photos and they will post it for you in an upcoming issue.

Interesting finds.   It's also interesting how familiar places have changed over our lifetimes. I'm 61. Can you imagine what folks from 150 or more years ago would notice?   Much would be unrecognizable to them in my locale.

It's the same thing out here JCR and some places including the schoolyard have become almost unrecognizable in my lifetime. The old-time local Pomo and Yuki Indians as well as the Italian Irish German and other immigrants of a 150 years ago would hightail it for the foothills and mountains. But even they have changed.

  6. After the 4th of July and all of the festivities I was in my hometown and stopped by the grammar school where I attended the 3rd 4th and 5th grades.I pounded this site to death starting back in the early seventies thru the early 1980's and found a whole lot of good stuff. Heck I probably even found silver coins that I lost? During those years the school was surrounded by WW2 era subdivisions on the north the west and east sides but the south side was still old vine grapes and plumb orchards that stretched for about a mile. That area has all since been replaced with 100's Of modern houses.Due to the fact that there is no security lighting on the old play area/football and soccer field it has become a major after dark play and party spot for the young folks and miscreants.Another plus is that they do not cut the grass very often so things build up and disappear rather quickly. Here is what i found minus the clad and all of the trash.

Am I seeing a head on whatever it is?

If you rotate it where the large opening is straight out to the right the other part of it looks like a bird’s head. The recessed area on the side I see it’s eye 👁 . Being it gets smaller beyond the eye has to be it’s beak.

     Chuck

PS  It may not be a birds head but it is some kind of creature  . Will you please post a picture looking head on to it.

I do believe I’m looking at its eye on the side.

Now I get why you know so much about pipes Chuckles! 😎 HA HA just kidding.✌️

Personally, I can't see myself digging that deep either, but I can see others doing it for their specific types of hunting. There's a guy in my detecting club who routinely digs large holes up to neck deep to find old bottles. So to each, their own. 😎

Great photo CPT! In addition to the eastern and local bottles, I have heard of and seen some powerful Western glass such as Bitters,Whiskeys,Sodas and Medicines from California,Nevada and Oregon that have been dug in Colorado. Thanks for posting.

  9. Hopefully they will see your post Chuck and write some new music and change their tune. They have covered the bases for what will most likely be largely a European market with the two box.Now it's time to take care of us Yanks with some ridiculously long overdue coil options. They are running out of excuses at this point in time although they have offered none....Nuff said.

Awesome finds, Doc, well done! Those all look like show stoppers to me, great hunt!

Thanks Captain! Buttons have always been one of my favorite things to detect. Coins come pretty hard at some of these sites in the Northern part of the state as the people were awful poor. They had money but were very careful with it.Nothing like the gold rush camps to the east or missions and spanish sites to the south.

Did they come out of the ground looking that clean? If not, how did you clean them? Those are really nice!

No and not many do depending on soil and other environmental conditions. Some just need a good soaking and rinsing others need help from a professional cleaner that has a tumbler bottle cleaning  machine and has other very meticulous methods and skills. The bottles pictured look really clean in the photos but under closer examination some still have minor inside stains and outer surface issues such as scratches and minor pings open bubbles and so forth. One even has a professional resin repair to fill a lip chip.

Been there done that  effectively with a metallic 5ft. spring probe (which can "detect" glass and ash that a deep seeker can't) and a Pulse Induction machine that can detect telltale supply barrel bands.  I doubt this will work in hot soil.  Probe has no issues with hot dirt.

Well I imagine I will get joked on, but I love myDeus ll along with the three coils I own. They cover all the ground I need. Now for the two box, it also is intriguing as living on the east coast of Virginia, there is no shortage of treasure tales from pirates, civil war buried artifacts stolen from southern mansions, buried civil war payrolls and post hole banks galore!!! I for one am excited.

All of those things are certainly possible. However a more realistic scenario would be an officers sword or sharps carbine or perhaps a navy colt at or below the four foot level the possibilities for iron relics are endless. And don't let the bones that you should happen to encounter make you queazy just pretend that you are an Archeologist and those poor souls that are long dead won't mind.

I apologize in advance for my Debbie Downer Reality Check @CPT_GhostLight... but considering this two box coil will cost over $1600 on its own, doubt XP will be pursuing a PI design any time soon (considering they even abandoned that approach for their pinpointer) much less be the ones who will break the PI price barrier.  To me it looks like they are married to solely iterating on the Deus-based wireless IB ecosystem from here on out.  The other telling and disappointing sign is that XP never even publicly acknowledges (much less responds to) the numerous requests for a small elliptical from their user base.  Look at how many people are requesting it in the comments section of the 2-box reveal video and how XP only responds to those who are praising the new deep seeker coil.  Really can't afford my own personal back-hoe at the moment so I will be passing on this.  Getting the Go Terrain App finally working after 7 years would be a major accomplishment.

Sadly it appears that our only hope is that they blindside us with shock and awe with the release of the small coils just as they surprised us all with the release of the D2.
