If ammunition gets noticeably wet or is exposed to enough humidity that moisture enters the primer, then it can be deactivated. It takes a good amount of moisture and humidity to do so, and it usually happens in the case of repeat exposure — but it is certainly possible.
If this does happen, the primer will be deactivated as well as the propellant charge, which makes the ammunition completely useless. A tell-tale sign of any propellant charge or primer deactivation is to find rust or discoloration on the primer or the rim of the ammunition case. When you see discoloration or rust, you can be confident that the ammunition has lost its function and is unusable. That ammo in your photo is really corroded, most likely it's deactivated from water exposure, but to be on the safe side pick up a surplus metal ammo box, for storage when you transport.
I found this little beaut a few years ago out in the middle of BFE where it had no earthly business being.I decided that it would be better to leave it where It behind rather than to pack it out a half a mile over rough terrain and kayak the four miles back to my truck with it.Do you have any thoughts or advice about retrieving it and keeping around?

Yeah, Cal_Cobra, I'm aware of the military using red lights to save their night vision. But I don't plan to hunt in the dark anyway and I just don't like that red backlight. But I don't have to hit what I'm shooting at with the 44 Magnum. If I just get in the general direction it is going to get knocked down just from the shock wave.
That'll do i carry a Kimber Eclipse Custom 11 10 mm.myself.

I believe that's correct Jeff... they also took the opportunity to show off the new pulse uni probe from Detectorpro which looks intriguing by the way.Anyway thanks for posting the no B.S. video I enjoyed watching it.D.B.

I've used a red LCD detector screen and it works great. The military uses red during their ops missions.
In my opinion it would be very beneficial for covert night hunting.

He's quirky but he does know his stuff. What really impresses me about him is that he isn't afraid to admit that he doesn't know everything, unlike many of the YouTube experts. Plus his testing is actually hunting with a detector. Novel concept, huh?
Well said Bill. His digging buddy Phillip the Nox is a Guru with the 800 I'm curious to see if he will upgrade to Manticore.

A few years ago I had a lower back problem that kept getting worse. Had a chiropractor work on it had my doc do a CT scan then suggest surgery. One day it got so bad I talked to the nurse associated with my chiropractor and she told me to pick up a certain brand of CBD cream at a local supplier. Honestly, it was like I just got a miracle cure. After a year or so I don't even need the daily dab of CBD cream to relieve the pain.
Apparently it doesn't work for everyone or every joint condition but it was a miracle for me. I could hardly believe how well it worked. And it worked immediately. Go figure.
If it's allowed to say what is the brand name? At 72 my right hip smarts a little now and again.

it's still money, the more hits, the more subscribers the more money so some create drama to attract views.
Not to mention click bait which is very annoying.

In fact, I had the same question so I did test it and it does fit inside the 280 backpack even with my 11” coil attached to the lower rod.
Awesome and thanks!

Great review and information Colonel D.Would you by chance use the XP 280 backpack to transport your detector in and if so does the new shaft fit comfortably? I have already posed this question to Steve via e.mail and of course he can build me one any length that I desire but it would be good to have the extra length or even longer and know that it will fit inside of the pack.Maybe you or some other forum members will know. Thanks D.B.

Something silly started by my customer on a training trip 25 yrs ago after he found a 1 ounce gold nugget. It's kind of stuck with us when big gold gets recovered.
The first one of those photos that I ever came across I thought to myself man those nugget hunter cats are gnarly! They carry dog biscuits in their mess kits!

Thought it might be a good place to share some pics of finds that dont make it into the other thread of AWESOMENESS.
Found this belt buckle at a Western Australian Ghost town.It s Gold plated.....i think....definitely gold but not solid.Has the words "Swift and Sure" on it with a sea Anchor and some what appear to be Paddles/Oars.Seems like a Navy style Theme.Has the Martin Patented stamped on it.
Anyways hope you like .....i do.
If you have anything similar ,would love to see.

Edited this post and added last pic.Found the 1/2 penny to have been shot at some point...something different and also these cool emblems off what i think were trophies.
Killer buckle a real zinger!

Sometimes those pesky little juvenile delenquents and miscreants can be useful.I had a similar experience back in 1977 at the local town park where I grew up here in Northern Ca.

Very good topic with an interesting history and excellent finds as well. It's always good to see something just a little different.

I'm not embarrassed or ashamed to admit it but I sort of fall into the category of Dick Stouts post.If there was a metal detectors anonymous organization I would most likely join an go through the twelve step program. But that being said the Axiom is on my current wish list.I am strictly a relic and early coins hunter and unlike most have a passion for digging big and deep iron because sometimes it leads to far better things like bottles and so forth.
