Couldn’t see it that well on the picture. But, I am guessing they are Roman numerals. Could it be an X? If so it would be 16 (XVI).
You could be correct that makes sense thanks.

I believe the back says Young Smith & Co New York. They were manufacturing buttons during the Civil War.
Looking for more info...
Thanks GH I just blew up the second pic and it looks like there is a another letter in the lineup ahead of the V looks like an N?

Hello fellow members I went to an old haunt on Thursday for a few slow hours but I did manage to find a few nice buttons including this early one piece eagle.I have the Warren K. Tice Uniform buttons 1776-1865 book but cannot seem to locate it and i'm hoping that one of the experts out there might know something about it.I apologize for the poor quality photos as I am learning a new camera. If you look closely you will notice two letters below the eagles perch V T or V I ? The Back-mark is not that legible either as there is a lot of wear and I did not want to clean it very much.
Thanks Everyone!

You're right, it's a misplaced rant and unnecessary on this forum.
It also doesn't apply to panning at all. Gold panning isn't going away under any circumstances.
Maybe so but the First Amendment seems to be dissapearing faster than the gold.

There is going to be a lot of dough being made by mining the miners again this time around. They are already showing up from all over creation.

Nice relics. I like the hatchet.
Thanks Rick I am not sure if that one is a kids toy or a salesman sample? It's definitely a miniature sized example compared to the larger ones normaly found.

That is a very cool relic.... However a good example of where one should be extra cautious about sitting on their helmet for whatever reason.

Wow, a Phoenix button ! And a very rare one at that.
Here's a rarity chart I wrote. Yours is a Type 1 Style 2 And although you don't have anything in your picture for size, yet it appears to be a large. Right ?
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rX9XFCFw-SKRiUFZfdtzFg7GIjUwzoJJ/view?ts=6182e46f
As you can see, yours is amongst the rarest. An easy $300 to $500 to the right buyer (although there's not a lot of collector / buyers out there these days, last I looked).
Are you at liberty to say what type of site this came out of ? And : How many total P.B.'s in your career so far ?
Hello Tom and thanks so much for your comment and friendly p m. As well as your comprehensive chart that you have provided for everyone. And yes that's correct Type 1 Style 2 large size.

Thanks for the info 350.Mine is somewhat different the grip of course and the embossing is very similar it reads PAT JUNE 17 USA.Not sure if it had a front sight as it is damaged and missing a small portion of the barrel. Most likely made by the same manufacturer?

I have been on the forum for a year now more or less and thought that I would share a few finds from a couple of sites. One is a recently discovery where I dug the little bank and toy pistol and the other earlier items came from a site that I have been poking around for awhile now.
The Bank Will Hold Five Dollars Of Dimes And Unfortunately It Was Empty.
The Pistol Has Patent Date But I Cannot Quite Make It Out?

That's a slew of early finds with some decent relics to boot.Would love to see the bottles that were and possibly still are on that site or at least some of the shards.

Thanks for the reply Bob. I may be misunderstanding what you mean in your third paragraph, but if you mean that I’m getting the gummies from a friend or off the black market, I’m not. I buy them at one of the many local CBD/hemp stores in my town. They’re widely available and 100% legal.
And it should have never been illegal in the first place, except for children of course. Weedies The Breakfast Of Champions!

It came up as a 93. It was only about 5"but it was on edge. It was the only signal I got over 90 in the 2 hrs I was in that field. I started to head out to the entrance of the field to wait for the others. We were going to move to another field. We had only dug a few flat buttons and a ton of modern bullets. When I got the signal I thought it was most likely a can. The entrance to the fields tend to be trashy close to the road. To be honest I dug it because I was waiting for them to catch up. And it was the only VDI above 90. Even when I first had it in my hand it was so big I didn't think coin. I said to one of the other diggers I think I got a token or something. I wiped the dirt and saw the HIs and top of the pillar and said holy crap. I was so lucky I didnt destroy it with my Lesche shovel. I dug the plug quickly thinking probably trash. I wont ever do that again.
Hello Jeff, and congrats on your stellar pillar coin! just like a previous commenter I am also envious.I for one really appreciate your articulate story telling and the way that it came to see the light of day.Your humbleness and honesty about what could have happened says a lot.Sometimes us detectorist will never know how close that we came to turning a cherished moment and spectacular find into an unpleasant memory.

Very interesting relic and chunk of big iron. You were wise to dig that target that many may have ignored altogether and also wise that you did not chuck over to the base of the nearest tree and catogorise it as leaverite.
