  1. Hello fellow members. I have been looking at these for awhile now and was curious if anyone out there has tried them? Personally I am waiting for their Rattler version because I prefer situational awareness that is scheduled for release this spring to use with my Deus 1 and 2 and possibly a second pair for the NOX 800.                                                                         6D63CD33-E75C-4496-A419-3801785A739E_1_201_a.thumb.jpeg.d5c7cc5056308fb3819fa4f2994b9f97.jpeg

Yeah, that would have been great. Minelab didn't even reply to my email about my issue for a couple of days. I found an old email where I had sent something to the "Detector Repair Center" before through my Minelab warranty, so I contacted them again. They are a Minelab  authorized repair facility in Pennsylvania, but they are not affiliated with Minelab. I wasn't happy with M/L's customer service and let them know. It seems they've gone downhill in my opinion.

Not long after I got my 800 in 2018, I had to return my original control pod because it wasn't syncing to my headphones, so M/L sent me a new control pod under my warranty. A couple years later, I had to send in my headphones to the DRC in PA (under warranty), and I got a new pair sent back to me. One of the speakers had gone out.

Third time around (now), It seems I have to front the bill.  If only everyone had the level of customer service that Garrett has!

Anyway, the DRC told me they don't sell detectors, so I had no option of trading it in on a new machine. And M/L finally got back to me, but basically said sending it to the DRC was my only option now...

I actually just ordered the XP 240 backpack and am looking at options to fit my gear in there without having to disconnect/reconnect my coil. I am talking to Steve at Steve's rods about a possible custom shaft for my 800, but I'm also looking at the Legend w/ the 9x6 coil. It collapses to less than 26", so I may be good there. The D2 looks like it would serve my needs great, but it's too expensive for me at the moment..

You are on the right track....When you get the 240 measure the specific inside dimensions of it and I am pretty sure that Steve can custom build a shaft that will fit it.The Legend looks to be a good choice as well.

  3. Please excuse my candor because I'm not one to mince words but to be frank that really sucks One would think that M L would show a little class and at least offer you the option of sending the 800 back with its original coil, shaft and headphones and allow you the option of putting the $349 pod replacement charge towards a new 700 or 900 but maybe that's a stretch? I would suggest that you get yourself an XP backpack but unfortunately the NOX will not fit into it at least mine will not with the Detect-Ed CF shaft.Furthermore if you ever have the opportunity I would also suggest moving away from M L and get yourself a D2. XP in my opinion has superior build quality and probably better customer service end of rant.

  4. Very nice finds there 350! Coming from the perspective of a longtime relic and artifact hunter as well as a collector I feel that the partial copper is definitely the star of the show.I would also have to concur that your deduction about its purpose is spot on.There is probably not a whole lot of us out here including myself that would have come to that conclusion so quickly so good call.

Not trying to abscond with your post Bootscrape. Tell me to start my own if you'd prefer.

Here are the spigots (some polished, some not - really like the ornate one with the valve still there) which may be water, fuel and/or gas, a brass minie ball enfield mold, and a nice Hubley cast car found at a house in the the high Oregon desert (very dry and sandy).  Car is a about 8" long for reference.

That truck would put a big smile on just about any treasure hunters face!

  6. Howdy Bootscrape, that's a fine grouping of relics and artifacts that you have there. I found my first barrel taps when I was just a teenager so they occupy a special place in my mind and heart and i never grow tired of seeing them. Also that retro hash pipe brings back a whole lot of very pleasant but somewhat cloudy memories from my youth.I have to admit that i really admire your meticulous effort skill and hard work to bring all of them back to there original condition and glory because they look sharp. However the thing is and please don't be offended but since I named my daughter and two different dogs that I have had Patina I obviously have a different preference.

Well, I'm not confident my wife is on the same side as you on that one.  When I told her I got a new detector she said "what, another one?!"  Then continued "how many do you have??"  When I stammered and said I wasn't sure she said "See what I mean!!"

    Thats classic!

Thanks Doc! It's been a great season with a bunch of new permissions. A few of my old ones are still producing, and I'm finding a lot more silver than I ever have, even gold. A gold coin still eludes me tho.

You haven't swung your coil over one yet that your detector could see.Its bound to happen.

My trouble on all theses new detectors they talk about coming out soon is I find myself not just out of but totally out of money. I’ve bought traded and what ever else you want to call it I’ve done it to get something else. I’m almost to the point of not having a pot to pee in are a window to throw it out.

All together now Poor Chuck. Hahaha

For some of us at least it boils down to one immutable truth. We can only buy what we really need and not what we want.Speaking for myself of course.

Question. Will this shaft still fit in the XP backpack? I really like to use my 280.

That was my main concern and also a priority.Because for lack of a better expression I live out of my 280 backpack! The reason being I am a little eccentric about being covert and on the sly.So to answer your question I emailed Steve and he answered a resounding yes. However i haven't ordered one as of yet but a couple of other forum members have confirmed that it does.

Thanks Doc, but in essence I am pretty much a beginner again. When I first tried detecting, I didn't take the time to learn the machine or the craft and pretty much gave it up while raising the kids and pusuing other interests. Flash forward to my semi-retirement a couple of years ago and I decided to get back into detecting for real this time, so yes, I'm really just still learning and need all the advice I can get. 😏

You seem to be right on course there Captain.I noticed that you are picking up shards of glass etc and spotting the mother of pearl buttons and that is good. And that you are picking out the smaller N.F. targets out of the iron also good.If you ever come across any layers or pits of stove ash or fire pits and if you have the time take the time to investigate. They can be loaded with buttons and other small items.I always carry an XP # 5mm = 1/4 inch mesh gold classifier in my pack to do some exploratory screening. And if productive I bring in my large 1/4 mesh sifter and start moving dirt..I like that you are Humble and good hunting!                                                                                                                                                         5F4B4D87-A2B5-4931-B91B-542EFD9CB54B.thumb.jpeg.454d32ddb5e40dbbc4adf61191dcad26.jpeg

Thank Doc! I will dig that big iron! One of my first detecting finds when I tried detecting 40 years ago happened when we were out gold panning and I decided to try out my brand new Fisher Gold Bug while poking around in a dilapidated old cabin frame near the creek. I got a huge hit in the corner of the timbers and just new I hit a chest full of gold nuggets. It turned out to be the door to an old iron potbelly stove, but as I pulled up the door, underneath was an intact small Kuhn's Remedy Co. bottle (circa 1880s) with the cork stopper still in it. It's sits on my desk as a reminder to check always everything! 😉

I'm not sure why Captain but for some reason I thought that you were kind of new to the hobby? Clearly I am not paying close enough attention or maybe I'm slipping a little. At any rate a 40 year man does not need a to whole lot of advice.Anyway there ya go and nice Bott! I have my own wood cookstove door story as do many seasoned detectorist maybe someday I will share it?

  13. Please Gentlemen let us not forget that the frenchies are notorious for sitting back and taking delight in a good pissing match. The more that we bicker about this frustrating subject the more likely that they will stall and delay it even further.

  14. That's not a bad array of finds their Captain.Looks like you have the bug and are on your way to becoming a relic hunting fanatic for certain.Keep digging those big iron targets and you will eventually be rewarded with something outstanding. On the rare occasion iron even leads to surprises and much better things including non metallic items.

Speaking of Amazon - I totally get why people are adverse to Windows (I primarily use Android and a Chromebook) so I bought a relatively cheap Win 10 S Mode laptop (designed for grade schoolers) and have dedicated it for Detector updates (Nokta, XP, Minelab) and other Metal Detecting related IT tasks (research, mapping, web searches) in the field.  It’s not going to break any productivity speed records, but it doesn’t have to (that’s what your Mac is for).  I see several on Amazon for around $150.  You might be able to find a used one for even less.  It costs less than many metal detecting accessories out there that are a heckuva lot less useful. Just a thought.

That's good to know Chase.I will look into it.

So they put all this time into Amazon and not an update. 🙄

I was sort of hoping that they would buddy up with Apple as well. So that when the updates finally do begin I won't have to spend my time finding someone else to install them for me.

I wake up and just about every day, the first thing I do is check this forum to see if a new Deus 2 software update has been released……………

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger Jeff.I do the same thing or hope for the e.mail from XP.
