Hey Gary when you're right you are right.I was thinking the same thing to myself the entire day while I was out and about.I had a tough time posting with my limited skills and so forth.Anyway I will try and do a revision tomorrow.Thanks to everyone for the comments etcetera.

Man all of this shovel and hand digger talk has me reminiscing about the days of old. When in the part of the country where I was raised we all dug with WW1 and WW2 Bayonets that all of the pawnshops sold for cheap.Or a big A$$ flat blade screw driver and on occasion a short handled #2 round point shovel.That was back in the stone age or as the local old timers would often like to say back when the men were men and the sheep were nervous.😍

Turtle corp I forget the model so let's just call it the Turtle.I bought it not so much for water hunting as I did for hunting in the pouring down rain. I would sometimes pack it along on Steelhead fishing adventures. what I remember and hated about it was that in order to tune it one would have to open the control box to do whatever settings with a little plastic gearwheel then take a pencil with eraser and gently press on a small thin metallic pad to set the threshold or whatever? A real pain in the Arse!

All of the ones mentioned so far are great, However some the more popular Lesche models are sold out a lot of the time for some reason?.Another brand option out there is EXCALIBUR SHOVELS.COM.they have a build your own option available with four or five blade options and a choice of either T or D handles and lengths up to 51 inches.They also have a model called THE MERLIN that is a two piece.I recently purchased one 48 inches in total length to carry in my XP 280 Backpack and it fits perfectly.If you swing a Deus and have the pack I recommend it. Or if you are the covert type and like to be on the sly it's a good choice as well.And built like a brick S%*T House!

Hey Doc thanks for the great service.The kneepads got here in two days and so far I'm very impressed with them.Went out on a pretty rough terrain four hour relic hunt crawling the brush etcetera and they stayed put and never slipped a bit. Also very durable and comfortable as well.Terry

Very nice collection George.Two of my favorite detectors that I ever owned were the Garrett Groundhog and the Deepseeker ADS that had an optional 14 inch coil if my memory serves me right that i hunted for very large and deep iron with.Had a question for you do you happen to have one of the late and great treasure hunter Richard Rays detectors that he had built and sold around 1980? It was called a phantom.Also of interest my grandfather had a detector called Comet Fireball that he would let me use sometimes when I was a kid.

You got that right.Myself,I would like to hear more about how the relic hunters are doing with it.Their has been a handful of videos out there but no real focus or discussion about it.I nave been thinking seriously about getting one, as my last and one and only PI machine that I picked up forty years ago {GARRETT SEA HUNTER} is plumb wore Out and frankly never was all that impressive in the first place IMHO.

I have two similar looking Harpoon points that I dug fifty years ago.That were most likely forged at the Russian American colony at Fort Ross on the Sonoma county California coast circa 1812 to 1842.They were used during the fur trade era to harvest sea lions, California fur seals and sea otters.

Hello Doc, I am not trying to change the topic of discussion here, but I have a question.Are the kneepads that you offer for sale really as good as advertised? I have been through more brands through the years than I can remember and without fail, none of them stay put.I finally got tired of pissing away my hard earned dollars, and settled for tactical style hunting pants with built in pads.Those worked pretty well overall but at 71 years old and still going strong ,I need more protection.Please let me know what your thoughts are and if they are still available thanks so much.

Great story Strick! I felt like I was there and wished that I was....Love those gold rush sites but i haven't hunted or dug in them since I was a teenager with my father and uncle who were born and raised In Smartsville.

There is a great deal of diversity of finds from your sites F350.Personally I have never dug a large American copper out here in the west, but I doubt if it ever gets monotonous.The copper or bronze spike is a nice addition to any collection and the plated bow wow ain't to shabby either.Thanks for keeping us entertained.

Howdy George that's a great story and a memorable discovery.So i decided to wait awhile before sharing my first projectile because I did not want to be rude and step on your post.So other than a single example of a 1 1/2" canister shot that I found at the site of a local Indian massacre circa 1850 I also came across this one completely by accident. Although it is 80 years more recent than yours {circa www 2} it is also far more unpredictable IMHO fired and unexplored with the fuse intact. If it would have been a period example from the Native American slaughter I would have more than likely risked packing it out.For the time being it is safely hidden.
