  1. Nice! Hard to tell but that pocket watch looks like it might be one of those famous $1.00 watches put out by Ingersoll  in the very late 1800s and early 1900s. I am also fond of that car. Pretty cool highschool medallion too!

  2. Colonel I am certainly am not qualified to weigh in on this issue as I don't beach hunt (though I am only 30 minutes from the ocean!), but I will ask a question because I like learning. Could there be enough of a difference in the ground balance approach between the beach and land program platforms as to where it could contribute to iron masking in a salty environment?

  3. Interestingly at the end of my hunt this past weekend, for the heck of it I cranked the Audio Filter to 5 and it did quiet the iron down. It was enough to make me want to spend time with the AF setting next time out. I am always a bit cautious when using filters, but the D2 has me thinking differently.

The 13" is my favorite coil these days, I've got used to its weight and love the great separation it has for such a large coil. Yeah it tends to droop a bit but It stays tight enough to not be annoying.

Wow, that sky isn't nearly as blue as it was in your previous post F350. It's smokey up here in MA and you are 700 miles further south! Regarding the 13" coil, it obviously has a lot more coverage than the 9" in coil, and as you and others have said, it separates quite well, but have you seen a noticable gain in depth with that big coil over the 9"?

  5. My main wish for the update was to reduce the iron falsing. Still not perfect but it is now much better for me in my very mild soils. Like a few others on this thread, I am working through combinations of settings to get the optimal performance. In my case I am wanting to find DEEP iron masked targets. The D2 is pretty deadly right out of the box on the shallower masked targets. Those deeper ones are still a challenge. Overall I am happy with V1.10, but I am looking forward to the next update and the improvements it will bring.

  6. Nice one CPT! I never would have thought that Audio Response could have an impact on falsing. I watched a couple of vids on how well Fast was unmasking in iron in V1.10. Very impressive. Using the offset in Full Tones was a good idea. I can't wait to get out and try it!

  7. A few initial observations with only about 10 hours of usage:

    • Iron Volume range expanded. I like it because now I can set it to to be able to just barely hear the iron tone.
    • Silencer setting more is dynamic. Not enough hours with it yet to determine if it is a plus or minus for the type of hunting I do, but it appeared to help with the falsing without losing its unmasking ability at a setting of 2 or 3.
    • I like that I can now lower the top frequency for any program. That gives me many more options to target certain conductors.
    • I found the iron falsing in Full Tones noticably better in V1.0.
    • It appeared to me that running a negative Disc lessened the iron falsing even more.

For me, it was all about learning what XP had given me to work with and not some kind of major flaw or stupidity on the part of XP. People need to try out these new settings parameters if they do the software update instead of getting involved in a bunch of speculation. Then there are the people that don't even own a Deus 2 that are fueling the fire.

I am with you there Jeff. Half these people that are complaining just tried V1.0 once, found it to be "different" , and have not bothered to put some effort into learning the new features and are rushing to judgement. I am sure V1.0 isn't perfect and V1.1 will "fix" a few things, but geesh, some folks need to take a breath and calm down. Maybe focus on the positives...of which there are many in V1.0.

  9. Wow, that's a lot of non ferrous targets! Yeah that has to be a challenge to find the right balance of filters in that type of soil. What you did worked well! I haven't tried the High Square yet, but people are liking it.

  10. Chase to be clear, setting the Disc to -6.4 didn't totally stop the falsing but it did make a noticable difference. I certainly don't understand the interactions of all the settings at this early stage in the game, but this oddity certainly got my attention!
