Nice write up and nice bunch of finds palzynski. Related to your tone breaks complaint, with the D1, I always hunted with VDI Normalization OFF. Since it's not possible to do that in multifrequncy mode I've had to get used to good targets coming in a bit higher on the conductivity scale on the D2.

Could be like you say that the site is just full of bullet casings. I detected a cellar hole in the woods site some years back and found dozens of copper clad bullets. They sounded great when you swung your coil over them. Turns out this site was almost directlty behind rifle range about 3/4 mile away.

I have one of that dog's descendants ! But somewhere along the line there was a gene mutation. My dog only brings me bottle caps and pull tabs.

I use the armband all the time. It's made for the D1 but you can squeeze the D2 controller into it with out too much difficulty.

Permethrin on the pants (applied the night before usually) and 25% DEET on everything. I also tuck my pant legs into my hiking boot socks. A thorough body check at the end of the day is the most important thing to do.

Well done! Lots of nice finds.

Interesting! But does the detector actually know if a deep target is actually a deep target or does it just know it is a weak signal? My fear is you may up having to listen to a lot of very loud small shallow targets if you invert the audio response if you are hunting in a modern trashy site.

Since we are discussing "first world problems" here, what REALLY irks me is that XP had the nerve to shorten the custom program names from 9 characters on the D1 to only 7 on the D2 !! 😄 To be honest, it does actually annoy me. 😉

The other thing is that my ws6 module somehow became unpaired and I couldn’t get it to pair back up. I finally did get it paired by doing it manually through options.
HA! I did the same thing NCtoad. Yep, I had to pair it manually as well. Maybe we should follow directions better. 😄

I haven't played with Sensitive yet, been sticking mostly with Pitch modes. Funny the first thing I did was get rid of the Notch as well. But I put it back as that is exactly where the pesky graphite rocks were hitting. I wasn't a fan of Full Tones on the D1, so I won't be trying it soon on the D2. You are making some nice finds!

Yep, its portability is a major plus and that 280 backpack is a high quality piece of equipment. Good luck on your road trip !

Thanks for the explanation Chase. In my limited hunts with the D2, it's been mostly in various pitch configurations. Looks like I'll hold off dabbling in IAR until XP works out the kinks.
-
Interesting. I've used IAR to sniff out a few goodies that I didn't find with any of the other modes. But I've always run 4 or 5. I will have to experiment with lower IARs in the heavy iron patches.

Congrats! I said the same thing when I went from The DFX to the D1. Now I am saying the same thing going from the D1 to the D2.

Midalake, that is a bit harsh seeing that you don't have a D2 yet. It's "junk" compared to what other metal detector? As far as the backphones go, they are not crappy at all. Used them for 7 years on the D1 with out any problem. I can't stand wearing full muffs anymore.

Ugh, that would be sickening to see your controller floating away down the river. I wore my D1 controller on my arm 99% of the time and I am doing the same with my D2. The D2 controller will fit into the D1 arm sleeve but it is a bit tight.

Good read. Thanks! I'm loving Deep HC which is 14KHZ max and my modified General program with 40KHZ max frequency. I have a custom Park but haven't used it yet. Learning 2 modes is enough for now.
HH 👍👋
Thanks Mudwhale. I found the Deep HC pretty interesting. One of the deep small buttons actually flashed TIDs of 05, 07, indicating iron. But I heard no iron tone so I dug. I dug a bit more iron with Deep compared to Pitch but that was understandable. I tried Park over one of the deep buttons. The Silencer setting at 3 with Park had me a bit hesitant to use it but it sounded pretty good! I will play with that setting over future deep targets.

My D2 with 9” coil arrived Friday night. Rained most of the day Saturday, finally got out this morning. I purposely went to my most pounded colonial site to see what the D2 could do that the D1 couldn’t. I was very impressed with the D2’s performance. This is a small site, 100’ by 60’ tops. It’s enclosed on 4 sides by stonewalls so it is easy to grid and be thorough. This site has been hit with multiple machines and over the years I have thrown everything at it that the D1 was capable of with multiple coils and every program and setting. I’ve pulled a lot of good targets out of it, but over the last couple of years I’ve been lucky to snag a small cuff button from the iron now and then. I’ve been shut out more times than not at this site over the last couple of years.
The Deus 2 managed to sniff out an additional 6 buttons and a knee buckle fragment from this site. I would have been pleased if the D2 had just pulled out 1 button. My plan going in was to hit it with a couple of Pitch programs then try a Deep HC program. One thing I noticed yesterday when trying out the D2 in my test patch at my house was that the SMF platform allowed me to hit iron-masked targets using a very low Reactivity setting. With the D1, this iron-masked dime at 6 inches, could only be heard with a Reactivity of 2.5 or 3. I could actually hit it with R=0 with the D2 and that surprised the heck out of me. And it wasn’t the nails sounding off, it was the dime.
I couldn’t bring my self to actually use an R=0 with all the iron at this site but I did use a Reactivity of 0.5 to snag a couple of deep small buttons. But I had to swing the coil very slowly at that Reactivity speed. After that I went over the site again with the Reactivity at 2.5 and snagged a couple more fairly deep buttons. I switched over to Deep HC before I called it a morning. I wasn’t really feeling it with the Deep HC so after a while I made a couple of adjustments to suit my preferences and pulled a couple more buttons.
I liked hunting in Pitch using Square Tones. The iron has a distinctive sound. The tonal nuances are a big part of the D2's performance but I was also surprised to see the TID lock in on a couple of these small deep targets. So yes, I was very impressed with the D2 on its maiden voyage. As an added bonus, one of the buttons I pulled today was a Rev War Continental Navy Officer’s button! It appears to be the French-manufactured yellow metal style and I think it will clean up nicely.

Yes I hate typing in the names! 😄 I might decide to hit a site using Pitch and will set up 4 or 5 Pitch programs with slightly different settings just so I can easily toggle to see how a different reactivity or frequency sounds over a target. But the next week I might hit the same site in Multi Tones or Goldfield and will have several programs for those modes. Yeah, the naming of the programs is the worst part. Talk about 1st world problems though. Sigh.

Yes. I was standing in an 1800s house that was knocked over. My video shows R5 versus R0 in heavy iron rubble and square nails. Hunt in R0 and you’ll be like 👁 👄 👁.
Using either extreme of the Reactivity scale will find targets but they will also miss targets. If you are just using R=0, you definitely are leaving good targets in the ground. If you use just R=3, you are leaving good targets in the ground. One reactivity speed does not get everything.

Why would XP give a sensitivity setting of 3? Who knows. But they really messed by making most, if not all programs, 2-3 reactivity when the machine should be set at 0.
I have yet to see anyone show a reactivity of 3 is better than 0.
Shopkins have you ever actually hunted in heavy iron with a Reactivity of 0, then gone back over the same spot with a Reactivity of 3? R=0 is fine in clean, mild ground, but in heavy iron or trashy sites you will leave a lot of good targets in the ground if you just use R=0.

If your iron choked cellar hole sites haven't been hit with a Nox or especially Deus, you will find a LOT of previously masked targets.

I went from the DFX to a Deus 1 some years ago. I loved my DFX and had a lot of nice finds with it. But going from the DFX to the Deus was like going from night to day. The Deus 1 was a superior machine in every aspect. I also found the Deus platform a lot more intuitive than the DFX's. Still waiting for my Deus 2 to ship. You will not regret the switch.

Anyone Using The General Program Much?

I think Zord is saying just the opposite.......The wet spots are the only good spots left that haven't been searched out.
