  1. I don't know. Never seen a picture of him. He was one of the most active members on the forum.
  2. LOL. sounds like I need to purchase some new aftermarket coils. lol Thanks Geotech. That's what I needed to know.
  3. Thanks Locator, I didn't know they put a diode in them. I will dissect one and see if it's replaceable. I've tinkered with electronics in the past. I was looking at a 4.5x7 aftermarket coil. I want to stay small to work near posts and fences and the 4x6 DD was perfect.
  4. Yeah, I have read that the V3 had to have them. All I can figure is there must be a 'shelf-life' on them being that the one with so little use is doing it too. I better go ahead and purchase a couple x-brand coils before the companies stop making them for White's detectors. It's going to be a sad day when I can no longer use my M6's. After so many years we speak the same language. Thanks for the reply.
  5. I'm new to this forum and was pleasantly surprised at the number of knowledgeable members here. Hopefully someone can help diagnose my coil problem. I have two M6's, both about 12-13 years old and have the 9.5 coil and the 4x6 shooter coils. One has less than 10 hours use and the other has 100's of hours use. The most used one had been unused for a few months and when I took it out with the 4x6 coil, it overloaded immediately when I turned the sensitivity level to max. I always run it that way. I took the other (barely used) 4x6 and put it on and same thing. So I took the other M6 and tried both 4x6 coils on it and they overloaded as well. The 9.5 coils have no issues. I took the metal detector to a different location to rule out possible EMI and the same overload issue. After using the detector with the 9.5 for a few weeks I put the unused 4x6 on it and it will work for a while 40-45 minutes and then overload. The heavily used 4x6 won't work at all at high sens. It's got me stumped.
  6. I was a forum member there for several years. Spent lots of time in the chatroom with others. I had stopped hunting for a while to do a home addition/remodel and when I came back last year I realized White's went under.
  7. Thanks. I have done OK on gold and silver over the years. When I get a fair amount, I send it off to Midwest Ref. for the cash. Except for the class rings and military rings/medals I've found. Historic items I keep. The biggest problem is finding the time to swing.
  8. I never find gold...just pulltabs and bottle caps. 😉
  9. I have access to a WWII gunnery training base and do 90% of my hunting there. I also hunt old homesites (what little there are here), local beaches, and a few parks from time to time. I use a White's M6 and a Surfmaster PI (purple label).
  10. New to forum, but been detecting for years.
  11. Just found out today that he had passed. I chatted with him nearly 30 years ago on IRC channel Detecting-Central along with other of us metal detecting nuts, then, for years in the White's chatroom. I had been sending him PMs for the past couple years on another forum and hadn't heard back from him. Googled him and his obituary and this post came up. I will miss him.
