I'd like to know the answer to this too, and would like to know as well why I have to loosen it with pliers when I want to recharge it no matter how much I grease it up. 🫤Otherwise it's the best pinpointer I own.

That's funny I thought I was the only one who had this issue. I twist it on gently, then go back a few weeks later and it won't budge! Then I break out a pipe wrench and cringe as I force it open.

    Great pointer though. 🙂

  2. I bought my D2 with the 9" coil, havent been out with it much but when I did go out I seemed to be picking up targets that my Legend with the 11"; stock coil missed.

I can see myself getting the 11/13 coil at some point but for now I want to learn the D2.

My reasoning for getting the 9" was that, in my experience, most, nearly all good finds I have made were less than 6' and most places I am searching around a lot of iron and foil so separation is important.

Look forward to learning the D2 and seeing how she does.

  3. Oh and yeah, the D2 seems like it is less sensative to EMI. Which, for me, is a huge plus. In my experience the Legend seems to struggle with EMI. I very often have to switch to single freq on it or reduce gain and recovery to the point where I question if I am missing stuff. But that is just my impression. Not knocking the Nokta.

When I went to my spot with the D2 I did get a bit of EMI but it didn't drown out my ability to hear the targets.

    Just sayin. lol

  4. I just got the D2 and like you, my main detector has been the Legend.

I have nothing bad to say about the D2. The Legend is a great machine, but the D2 is another animal.

I could only get out a couple times with it. I went to a familiar place I have hunted with the Legend a lot and was surprised how many targets I was hearing on the D2 that I didn't find with the Legend. Found a bag seal, a victorian brass thinging with fancy on it and a 1951 canadian penny. Not bad for a place I have hit and hit and hit.

Even with the 9" coil on the D2 it seemed to go deep.

I bought it mainly for the weight and the tones, and on those points it is fantastic. Also, regardng the weight, I can tell I will be able to detect longer and reach tough spots with it with less effort. Such a pleasure to swing.

I am very glad that I started detecting with the Legend. I learned a lot and I really didn't feel intimidated by the D2 settings etc.

For what it is worth I got the D2 with backphones, RC and 9" coil for around $1348.

I guess if I had one thing to complain about it might be the backphones. They really hurt my ears wearing them at first but I found if you tilt the back down after fitting them they kind of hang above your ear a bit and they feel a lot better.

Of course now everything is frozen so I can only stare at it lovingly until spring, lol

That could very well be. I mean, they're already killing it in the low and mid priced market, so the next logical step would be a detector in the higher priced market. Although as I previously mentioned, I can't see how SMF performance can get any better than what we already have, nor can I see how ergonomics can get any better than a D2. If I was grasping at straws, maybe the Nokta engineers discovered a way to get far better target ID accuracy with SMF?

    Agreed.

I will say that I did just get a D2. Mostly for the weight, but I also love the tones. I had never held one until getting it and  it vastly exceded my expectations.

It will be interesting to see what they come up with. Also how they would market a "high end" machine against their own "best for the price" and already very capable Legend. I mean coming up with what 3 new simplex machines already makes their lineup pretty crowded.

For me I just don't want to see a XP Deus 3 come out soon, that would be a real bummer lol.

  6. Was watching History Revisited video the other day. He was using the manticore, but at the end of the video he let spill a little tid bit.

He said that Nokta was planning something, at first he said "high end", then corrected himself and said, "high price" and said he just can't keep his mouth shut.

With all the new detectors Nokta has been dropping I would not be surprised.

Guessing a Legend 2, lighter, smaller, better. probably will price it in the 1200 range, just guessing. But with Nokta vomiting new detectors why wouldnt they aim a little higher?

Glad your are enjoying your new Deus 2.

The beauty of the Deus/Deus 2 modular platform is that there are a LOT of configuration options - a lot more than just one or two aftermarket headphone choices.

You can go with your current full up remote and wireless WS6 puck/backphone configuration or you can opt for several different options with the WS6 Puck as alternatives to the backphones:

You can get a wired headphone adapter plate (about $20) that slides onto the WS6 puck and then plug your favorite wired phones (you can use your existing Legend wireless headphones in wired mode using the included wired connector) plugged into the puck to run untethered from the detector by just slipping the puck into a pocket or you can get any of several puck mounts/holders that enable you to strap the puck on your wrist or strap it to your belt or a shoulder strap or mount just the puck on your Deus stem and shaft.  You can even plug a Bluetooth APTX-LL transmitter into your puck adapter and use your Legend wireless phones.  Although the collective audio lag may not be ideal.

You can also get full size third party headphones with a puck mount.

Or get either of two WSA II wireless phones (WSA II Puck or WSA II XL full size over the ear phones) that lack standalone control features of the WS6 Puck.   Since you are not an XP backphone fan, then WSA II XLs would be preferred, except that they cost about $170 - $200US.

Here are some pics and links to alternatives to the backphones:

Detecting Doodads puck mount over the ear phones.  I like these.  They are weatherproof, have mute switch, and an audio input jack so you can use them with other detectors.

Hope this helps give you some options to consider as alternatives to the backphones you can spend as little as $20 or as much as $200 or more to address your issues with the backphones.

    Thanks!

    You covered the options perfectly.

I realized I was not putting the backphones on properly. They are much better when you ease the back down after putting them on. I still dont like that design of phones but it will be livable until I get something else.

    Happy new year!

Welcome to the "Dark Side", Dirtshark. 🙂 The D2 leaves your wallet as light as it is, but you will enjoy it for sure. 👍

I like the WSA backphones because they don't go over head cover. I'm the winter I wear a beanie that holds them down over my ears, and yeah I think they look kinda funny sticking out.

A trick is to put them on, get them right on your ears, and then bend the backstrap down until it pulls them into your ears a bit.

Check your version, you should start out on V2. It's not worth running the older versions if you're new to the machine.

    Enjoy! 🙂

    Thanks!

I actually found a video of someone showing how to put the backphones on properly. They feel excellent when you do what you were saying. All pressure on the top of the ear is gone. Awesome.

I cant get over how comfortable this is to swing. So balanced and natural.  Reaching out to sweep under a bush or something is easy as pie. Love it.

Been detecting 3 years now and I know I will be doing this for the rest of my days, God willing, so having a detector to grow with is nice.

I don't know if this is the dark side or the light side, but either way, I am a believer.

  9. I just got back from the most frustrating emi nightmare with the Legend. Middle of nowhere, woods and massive emi...it comes it goes...it waits until you get a tiny target then chatter fest.

Can anyone please tell me, is this the Legend or is this a fact of life with any detector?

Are some detectors more resistant to emi?

How can there be so much emi when there are no houses, no power lines and no iron in the ground?

I am in the market for another detector either way, but is there a significant different in how certain detectors handle emi?

I will say, in most cases when I encounter emi, I can adjust my settings and I am good, but sometimes the emi is just unstoppable.

  10. Gratz.

Unlike you I just started detecting last year. With the Legend. I had a lot to learn and I am glad that I learned on this detector.

From the standpoint of a newbie I was impressed to see Nokta stay on top of bug fixes and pushing new features the community requested, they have done a great job refining the machine and  communicating to their user base.

I ultimately bought a Simplex for a spare and I really like that machine as well.

THere are a lot of great machines out there. I would love to get a D2 or a Nox someday. But it is good to know that the Legend gives me a great feature set for the money. I almost bought a D2 as my first real detector and I am glad I didn't, the learning curve would have been much harder.

Anyway, mine is on the way to get the speaker repaired, I can't detect now anyway because of winter.

I am not a "brand" guy, I took a chance that Nokta was telling the truth about the Legend and preordered it.

    No regerts

  11. So sorry to hear this.

My little buddy is fading fast, has a mass on his liver. only 8 years old. He is a yorkie Maltese mix, mostly yorkie, and is a very good boy.

I never felt such grief about losing a pet before. I will be devastated.

I don't take him detecting but every time I come back he smells the dirt to see where I have been digging.

I am only going to comment on the second video concerning Park M3.

Paysteak is very unique. His advice is also very localized to his hunting area and unique.

If you hunt targets in the air, on styrofoam, on porches, concrete slabs, are only hunting shallower targets or have dirt with absolutely no iron or salt mineralization, a lot of what he said may apply to you as far as choosing a single frequency over one of the three Multi settings in Park mode. I don't hunt in any of those conditions so his advice about frequency use is useless for me.

His commentary had some other very questionable assumptions.

The first is that the transmit and return signals were "penetrating" the foil or gold ring in order to detect the high conductor coin target underneath.

The second is that on the Legend specifically a selection of single frequency will have more power/depth than selecting Multi frequency because that same power/depth potential will be split in half between the two frequencies being used in one of the Legend's Multi settings.

To his credit, he also made some statements that people using version 1.10 software Park M3 need to be very aware of. No doubt, Park M3 will hit very hard on high conductor coins.....sometimes.  Jeremy said that "the size of the coin matters". So does the orientation/profile of the high conductor coin in the ground.

So, a very low weighted frequency combination used in Park M3 will detect some foil targets very poorly depending on their size and orientation. In fact it will detect any target poorly that is very small or is only showing a very small profile to the coil due to orientation in the ground. Micro jewelry, poorly oriented jewelry/coins will be hard to hit with Park M3 whether they have foil near them or not. If they have iron or steel allow targets that are adding to the profile being masked........same problem.

Park M1 with its middle of the road frequency weighting (note that Jeremy was recommending 15 kHz single frequency for general park hunting) is still the best mode for me, for hunting a variety of targets found in most USA parks with modern trash. Park M2 is great for lower conductors, smaller targets and for more trashy/iron mineralized areas that need a little more natural higher frequency weighting separation and Park M3 appears to be excellent for high conductor cherry picking. Its lower frequency weighting may effect its overall depth in my soil conditions.......which has a bit to do with overall power, but has more to do with the size of lower frequency waves themselves versus high iron mineralization.

So, don't take Jeremy's, CD's, TNSS's or my word for anything approaching what your experience may be in your ground conditions. All I personally can tell you is what I experience as tendencies of the Legend where I detect. Learn your Legend on your on and what it can really do.

Yeah, I love PS, but I admit I raised a couple eye brows on some of his comments. I think when he says "penetrating" he wasn't meaning actaully penetrating, he knows better than that.

And yes, he hunts parks. almost exclusively, so you need to remember where he is coming from.

    Good points Jeff.
