Got out for my first nugget hunting trip since getting back from my "Snowbird" gig in FL (loved it!). Spent several days looking for new areas and patches.....skunked at Rosebud/Rabbithole, and wandered seemingly aimlessly along the outer edges of Rye Patch where I did stumble across a nice little nugget all by itself...unfortunately not a new patch :-( So hunkered down and got in the "zone" to hit some of my hammered areas......and the zed didn't fail me! Here's some pics...

Excellent report Lunk! I'm glad I decided to add the GM1000 to my arsenal....can't wait to get it and try it out on the tailing piles and lode mine gravels up by my cabin! Plus, it'll be a fun lightweight unit to use in the desert when taking a break from the zed. :-)

You are King of the Patch, Lucky! Hope you saved a few for me....I'll be heading there for a short trip when I get back to Idaho soon! Loved being in FL this winter, but chomping at the bit to get out nugget hunting!

I was re-thinking my post and the thought occurred to me..
I haven't ever found enough gold to make a substantial monetary gain....
So that proves I will do it for the fun...
I do like finding it tho
Same here Paul! I tell my friends "I'll never find enough gold to pay for all the toys I bought to go look for it....even if I live to 120!" But I don't care.....it's the getting out there and looking for it I love. However, I definitely like finding some though....hate the skunk! ?

I've had some success drywashing dry bench areas that I've found small nuggets in while detecting. I get all I can with the Goldbug 2 then start shoveling dirt into my Thompson puffer....it's fun and I can squeak out an extra gram or so! :-)

Got one too. Sadly, I will not be out with it anytime real soon. My mom has been diagnosed with advanced cancer and I am spending as much time as possible with her in her last few months. Lots of family coming too, and if that's not enough, my house is ripped up for a major remodel. I'll get out with it in a few months when the weather warms, got a lot of places I want to try with it - trolling for lunkers.
Sorry about your mom...it's tough. Hang in there....those big lunkers will wait for you!

Good Luck Peg, see you when the snow thaws :)
Did you get out much with your 7000 after the Rye Patch hunt? Save some mother lode au for me for next summer! :-)

Detected some gravels from a hard rock mine near my cabin....used GB2 in Iron Disc due to lots of trash and iron. Lots of pyrite, some galena, and other sulfides(I think that's what they are?). Some small speci's and thin sheets after soaking in CLR. Still need cleaning, but will take care of them when I get back from wintering on the Treasure Coast of FL. Maybe I'll find a gold doubloon or silver piece of eight while there! Wish me luck! :-)

Great gold I'd say. More than I've found in several trips up there.
Last year Lucky showed us some spots up there and I got a lesson on my 7000. Before that I've been up there with my 5000 but ...
I'll be up there this time next week for about 3 days. I hope to hookup with someone that can put me in some still productive areas. I know it is 'everywhere' but also long stretches in between.
Mitchel
Lucky wasn't there while I was, but you may run into him on your trip as Rye Patch is his stomping grounds. With the 7000, I did best looking for old PI dig holes and going over the old patch.....the 7 did amazing finding stuff the previous technologies missed. Of course, looking for new spots is what prospecting is all about....I found some scattered gold, but no big patches that hadn't been hunted before. Good luck on your trip!
