  1. ......you guys left a few for me! :-) Was at Rye Patch and vicinity while the Nugget Shoot was going on; didn't participate in event, but met a lot of nice folks who were down for it and will next year for sure! Got some nice nuggets, several while wandering looking for new patches, but most at known areas.... that 7000 is an amazing machine! Unbelievable how it can still sniff out some gold in obviously pounded places! Here's some pics...had a great time: beauty of the high desert, comradarie of other prospectors who love the hobby as much as I, and the spiritual time of solitude....oh, and the AU! :-)
  2. Met him while detecting this week at the patch....nice guy; Roustabout was showing him around. Yep, I think he came the farthest!
  3. Bummer about your journal.....hope you find it. But I'm sure you'll still be able to share lots of useful info etc! Thanks.
  4. Yes, thanks for info Fred.....will look into them. Would need to rent some sort of camper van etc, and safely get my detectors over there.....logistics logistics! Time to start planning! :-)
  5. Great timing on this thread Steve, as I've been toying with a "bucket list" trip to the land down under next summer! I know I could probably find more gold plugging away here in the west and southwest, but the adventure appeals to me! Looking forward to your continued posts! :-)
  6. You had quite a road trip! Nice story. I'm planning on going to Virgin Valley for opal in future...did you just do the tailings vs digging in the bank? Which mine did you prefer overall? On your next trip, consider Spencer, ID for digging in opal tailings....I found some nice specimens.
  7. Love my pendant you made out of my Gold Basin nugget.....thanks! Great meeting you too!
  8. Beat the potential skunk Brian was dealing with on his previous post too, but one hour earlier!? Was slipping and sliding on a steep slope all day, but nothing but square nails and a bit of lead.....then at about 3, as I was making my way back up, I got another target. Moved some rocks and dug, figuring it's going to be my Zillionth square nail....so I looked up to the sky, sweat stinging my eyes, and asked the Gold God for just a baby piece of CA gold to start my nugget-hunting vacation with. And Holy Crap! This beautiful rough CA slug plops into my hand! Biggest I ever found! So said my thanks and called it a day(after checking my hole for possible little brothers, of course! lol)
  9. Wow...that's a beauty! Way to hang in there to beat the skunk!?
  10. Came across his videos a few months ago....can't help but love the guy! (Good thing I was in the Navy, and my dad was a construction worker....get a hoot out of his colorful language!?)
  11. Those are unusual for Rye Patch....nice hunting!
  12. You're right...I'll have to find someone who could make one for me. Be nice to wear a beautiful nugget like that, rather than having it sit on a shelf in a vial!
  13. First off, I'm not too adept at posting/computer stuff, so hopefully won't botch this up! Trying to post some pics from my prospecting trip! Had a great time exploring more out of the way areas of GB... the quad is a must! Camped on Mike and Jerry's property off Greggs Hideo In spite of some rainy days, my hunting partner Jim and I were able to get out and find some gold! Here's my total for the trip: Close up of my "Personal Best" so far, a nice 6.8 grammer....this was found in a remote narrow wash about 8" deep....gave a strong reverse signal
  14. I had my 1st "low-high" signal on gold last week in Gold Basin; it was a solid 6.8g nugget at about 8" in a narrow wash. Was on High Yield, Difficult...sensitivity 18 and used low Audio Smoothing. Thought it was going to be junk, but did Happy Dance when saw it! I'm on way home to Idaho now and will post pics of the AU when I get home...had a great trip!
  15. Paul, you are a hoot! Congrats and keep us posted on your Aussie Adventure!
