Sorry, I should have done better research rather than instantly get angry.  It's because NZ keeps getting left off World maps, and when I thought we were left off the Coke Cola list of countries I saw RED.

This video is a hoot! Love your Prime Minister...is that her in this spoof or an actress playing her?

  2. I also take time daily to feel gratitude and say a silent “thank-you”…..on my morning walks at the cabin, or while biking along the ocean here in Florida. As I get older life is so much more precious, and I appreciate and feel a connection to Nature more and more. I’m so grateful I can enjoy the outdoors, being active, and our wonderful hobby. Happy Thanksgiving!

  3. Sorry to hear that! Yes, quality control was pretty nonexistent on this release. I mentioned in an earlier post, that out of the 4 of us who meet up to detect, 2 of us had faulty detectors out of the box...a 50% crap rate! Thank goodness my replacement seems ok. Good luck.

  4. My initial 6000 would power off when I set it down to dig a target, likely a loose connection with the battery pack? Minelab sent me a new machine which works fine. There’s 4 of us with 6000s who meet up in Nevada, and on the last outing Tom’s machine was just crazy sounding out of the box and had to be sent back. That’s a 50% crap rate in our little group! I do wish Minelab would put a little more effort into quality control too.

I and my wife were in Alaska in May and her left hip was really bothering her and she was having a hard time walking. I told her when we got back home she needed to see a doctor. They gave her shot in her hip and that only lasted a few days and the pain was getting worse, so she had a hip replacement two weeks ago, so now she's on the mend. We haven't been able to do any detecting of any kind the whole summer, but hopefully in a few weeks we might get some nugget hunting trips before the weather sets in high country.

Great story, photos and gold! Thanks for sharing.

Hope your wife has a speedy recovery! Do you know if she had the minimally invasive anterior approach? I’m researching lots before I decide who&what&where on my hip…don’t want no old lady hip!😆

Probably not an issue with the Oz flies, but the reason most nets are green, is that black attracts mosquitos. In Alaska, never wear black clothing, but stick with light grays, blues, or greens - the colors of the sky and woods. Black or very dark colors make you look like a black bear to a mosquito, and it is amazing to see. A person in black will have their own personal cloud of bugs around them. I tried a black head net once, and ditched it because it created the very condition I was trying to avoid. So don't dress in black, but make sure your buddy does, so the bugs go after them!

If you are in the worst locations in Alaska, 100% deet is the go to but lower concentrations work also, just takes more. Lot's of the fad stuff that comes along is a joke. I rarely apply it to my skin unless there are not that many bugs where I do not need a net, but normally spray all my clothing and hat, and wear gloves and a head net.

The thing I liked about the Oz flies is they do not bite. The small black flies and gnats in Alaska do bite, and they are far worse than mosquitoes for the damage they do, as about 1 in 10 people are allergic to the bites. The bites fester and can last for weeks....

    Fly Bites: Symptoms and Treatments

Good advice for me Steve, as I WILL make it to Alaska in the next couple years I hope! Yikes, those bites remind me of the fire ants in Florida…they also fester and last a couple weeks or so!

  7. Thanks for all the replies! Damn, you can bet I’d be covered in that horse balm stuff, netting, deet etc etc…..crazy conditions you guys prospect in!
Yeah, I wondered if the film crew instructed them to remove netting for the footage….they all couldn’t be THAT clueless, could they?? Lol

RedDirtDigger- that is some awesome gold you got there! Someday I’ll have to make it over there to look for something other than the fly-poo I find here😂

Trent- were you on the show? Cool!

Tony- 118 Fahrenheit, wow! Now that is HOT!

Yep, you Aussies are a hearty lot!👍

    Thanks Peg,

I have no idea how you can stand coming back to Florida, with all that In your "backyard"!!  But then again, I've never had to go through a whole winter anywhere but here! But I'd like to try it sometime! Can't be worse than summers here!! At least I could go skiing, instead of trying to chill in the A/C all summer! The costs would be about the same, and I would at least, be in better shape, by the end of the season!! Or at home with a broken limb, catching up on my reading, and detector mods! ⛷🤕 🤣👍👍

Joe- coming up on my 6th season snowbirding in FL, but it’s funny you brought it up because I’ve decided to sell my place there! I’ll still visit, but I want more flexibility in the winters….to enjoy the snow and wildlife up at my Idaho place, to explore and detect the desert SW from my toy hauler trailer while I’m still young enough to do it, and to visit other areas of FL(fossil hunting) as well other tropical climes! Decided life is too short to be tied down to Melbourne Beach for 6 mos…plus I’ve already found my Spanish coin from the 1715 Fleet, so can check that off my list 😄👍

  9. Dang, is it September already? I didn’t even work my little Claim this season! All the easy gold has been gone for a couple years now, and since  I’m looking at a Hip Replacement in the near future (old car wreck injury), it wasn’t worth the flare ups that come from hauling rocks, swinging a pick, and shoveling to get at the remaining gold. So I’ve focused on fitness and biking the hills this summer, with a couple fun detecting trips to Nv to keep me in the game….but the next trip isn’t for a couple weeks and I need a Gold Fix! So I decided that after my early morning walk, it would be time to go play with the Gold Monster😊

It was a brisk start to the day! My hummingbird feeder was starting to freeze; most have left, but I leave it out for the stragglers. While on my walk and planning where I’d go with the Monster, I couldn’t help but admire the beautiful sunrise….unfortunately due to the awful California wildfires😥. Then I saw the neighborhood Mama Moose….her Baby was with her, but I didn’t catch the young one in the pic. I sure do love my morning walks up here!

Once it warmed up a bit, the Pup and I headed out in the side x side to an area I’ve hit quite a bit before with the Monster, but I was sure it could squeak out a couple more. Lila, of course, wanted to drive😄8ABC4D90-6632-4D68-9F14-F38AA8F0658F.thumb.jpeg.35e9cb5d4ae3e5af206440b5ceda132e.jpeg

I worked real slow, and sure enough, was able to find some little bits. And LITTLE being the key word here…check out this tiny speck. Unbelievable that a detector can pick this up!

Here’s one of the larger bits found…can actually pose it on the detector lol!

All the while, my little Pup was protecting me from the chipmunks scurrying amongst the Old Timer’s rock piles…what a cutie 🥰

We spent several hours enjoying the late summer sun, the gentle babbling of the nearby creek, the breeze in the pines, and the solitude and contentment only Nature can bring. And I ended up with enough bits to actually weigh…what a great day!👍😊

After soaking overnight in CLR my 6.2 grams dropped to 5.98g.

I didn’t test the GPZ 7000 on any of the GPX 6000 undug nuggets.

I did fire up the 7000 and hunt for less than an hour as I used the built in GPS to home in on two Find Points from five years ago.

As many of us do, I slowly circled and crisscrossed tens of yards all around those dig holes at that time with the GPZ-14 coil.

I marked the old filled-in dig holes with dead sage brush and took the 7000 back to the Jeep. I didn’t want to drag around that heavy 7000 when I was enjoying using the 6000!

I returned with the 6000; found two small nuggets each nugget was within three feet of an old dig hole. Then I found the 2.6g nugget less than a hundred feet from either of the old dig holes. This was in ground that I and others had been over several times over the years.

    Have a good day,

    Chet

Chet, yes we should have checked those 1st two targets w the 7000. Didn’t even think of it, DUH! Though the largest nugget is gorgeous, I really love that one in the 2 o’clock position...it was my favorite from the git go.
