  1. The Z-Lynk headphones are the wireless receiver... And yes the headphones have a volume control knob. Maxed out and still barely any volume. Not getting what you're referring to?
  2. What's wrong? I have the Z-Lynk headphones with the transmitter and used it with my White's MXT All Pro. Always knew I lost volume but could still use them with the Threshold turned up. But I wondered if it was a mistake to not use wired headphones? Since then I got the White's MX Sport and have tried the Z-Lynk system with the Sport. The Sport comes with an adapter for regular headphones. Which then works with the wireless system. There's a volume issue with them as well, But with the Sport you can turn the volume and the threshold up. I wonder if it's just a bad match? or if it's the Z-Lynk headphones system? Well Its got to the point where my threshold and volume had to be MAXed out to use, Still not loud enough to be usable. Last time out I went with the wired headphones and felt everything was "Right" Just wondering if this problem in my setup or the Z-Lynk system is faulty. Some time ago I attempted to test the Z-Lynk with the TV and the computer, Always a poor sounding weak system. As it is now it's gonna get tossed into the unusable pile. Just wondering if it's just my setup or those headphones were a bad idea.
  3. Not long ago I was going out in the evening to night hunt. Seen a rotten tree with claw marks. Here in WV even close to town bears get seen. For the most part they would rather run than be seen. I still thought better of the night hunt. Last week was detecting an area which has been good in the past. I got a good signal and was digging it up, No warning got "HIT" by a Yellow Jacket, Hit because it's like getting HIT! I moved darn fast for 69 years old. Second time in a few years that's happened, you have no warning because they seem to come out of no where. I "Wonder" what that signal was? Well will wait till after the first frost and go finish that recovery up.
  4. Been said a few times already, Check GB often..... My areas are 300 years of activities, After every target I quick test the GB, What good am I doing if it's not balanced? What type of ground are you ground balancing to? I don't use ground grab as I want to hear by doing it manually. Realistic half the time "At best" I'm correctly balanced. Always wondering.
  5. When less is better. Would you take your detector and set the 1-10 sensitivity settings down to 2? Then turn the discrimination settings up most the way? I think we all want to set everything up to maximum, Get every last inch and everything including large iron. Half the time the detector is overloading, seeing 3D clutter, nulling out, masking. Be honest. I'll be first to admit it. We then go for smaller coils, narrow the search area for the detector to work with. Separation, Recovery speed is the talk, Are we asking too much of the detector? "Back when" I didn't know what I would call that. I did go about it in a manual way, County fair grounds, over a 100 years old. Layer after layer of targets and trash. I knew the good stuff was there, I just had to work for it. Pick an area and take the loud big targets one by one and dig them out, go back over it and take the next layer out and start getting the silver, Each layer I cleaned out got better finds. There's no detector on the markets today, or ever for that matter that could sort thru that mess and pick out the good stuff. Less can be better.
  6. My rant was more in jest. But really what would you do if you forgot your PP at home? How much effort do you put into a accurate detector PP? Seriously we used to be able to get very close. I guess we just didn't want to dig so much to recover the target. That's where the screw driver came in. Granted when I finally got a PP'er after 30 years not having one I was happy with it right from the start. I just never used it to dig with. I never have used a shovel because I can PP close enough to just use a trowel. It's got to be one heck of a pain carrying a shovel.

  8. 1980, No forums, No internet, No Pin pointers. NEVER SEEN Shovels being used, Did see plenty of screw drivers. You sure wanted to leave a nice plug to return to the hole. SOoo learn how to pin point with the detector, YES you can do it. Forward to 2015 I got a double D coil and I thought I was gonna need a PP. Got one but then soon found out you can pp a double D as easy as with a concentric coil. (Screw driver) popping shallow coins is so much easier than a trowel dig. I have watched people dig a basket ball size hole only to find the coin on the ground next to the huge hole. I have tried to show some people how much LESS WORK doing a detector PP is. OH, right, Ah wearing a hole in the PP, People can't even PP with a PP. Anyone angry with me yet?
  9. (CLAD) (First) Once you get rid of the crud, Tumbled ...Then... salt and vinegar soak, WATCH THEM it doesn't take long, DON'T OVER DO IT. Then tumble them again, Takes the stain right out of them. BUT if you over do it you get pink coins.
  10. My take... "Street property" is often measured X amount of feet from street center. I have been told if a city puts new curb and sidewalk in in front of your home you pay half the cost based on sidewalk feet. Thru the years I have did the area between the sidewalk and curb. As others, If it's well kept and flowers I just move on. I have had property owners ask my why I haven't asked permission. I calmly bring up the fact it's street property, BUT If you have a problem with that I will move on. In 40+ years I have had the cops called on me a couple times without any warning. After telling the Police my rational they have asked me to move on anyway. I make sure they are aware of property lines. Just recently I was doing a curb strip without homes, A guy with a 150 year home next to where I was walked up to me and (I Thought it might be a problem) Guy straight out told me (Hey) you want to do my property? HUM? OK, But show me your property lines. Be friendly, respect reasonable requests. Strips in towns are often where people put their trash out to be picked up, Making it a landmine of junk. A person could take a rake to the curb and bag it up. Who would argue with that?
  11. I love to see People finding the MXT... I have the Pro and for the most part in my area (WV) civil war area. Relic, 2 tone, disc low and sensitivity high as you can. 5X8 DD and a Detech 13 Ultimate coil. The detector will always be my "Go-to" Number one detector. As you may have seen, Even a nice 10 year old MXT pro will go for a price which reflect it's abilities. Enjoy!
  12. Post 5 Seriously updated. First off the MX Sport is my first detector which is menu driven. (I have been a White's fan for more than 40 years) I now have spent hours and hours, Most of the time bench testing it. I have gone to many forums and searched thru them, back to early 2016 for MX Sport posts. I can see why White's and the Sport reputation was burned. Things kind of went quiet on them, People were just too tired and frustrated with everything. I don't know how many Sport detectors were sold. I think many People read and didn't post, Don't know where those detectors went? If I had researched the Sport before buying it off Ebay a couple months ago I wouldn't have bought it, Did the forums have anything to do with White's going under? Yes White's made some very serious mistakes, Paid the ultimate price. For the last month, First no rain and cement ground, We got some badly needed rain. Then it got way too hot, too hot for me. Maybe all a good thing. I have committed myself to not use my other detectors, If I had put the MXS in the closet, That would have been the last of it. Would have felt bad not giving it a chance. Like I said "Bench testing" Which gave me a "Constant baseline" To all the testing. "When" I can get out I have a place which isn't contaminated, A couple acres of Civil war camp/s, I have found both Confederate and Yankee relics, This spot was used by both sides and more than once over the span of the war. I have worked it to death over a couple years and found hundreds of bullets and relics. Still find stuff everytime I go there. So happens there is a knee deep creek there as well, Never hunted it. I will make or break the Sport.
  13. Still too hot to get out, still bench testing. Today I got a new set of headphones, tried them out on all 3 of my machines and they worked great. I didn't know my old wired HP's were that faulty, How long was I detecting with poor performing HP's? I also have the Garrett wireless headphones with the Transmitter, I have known they had low volume, but still could use them in quiet areas with the MXT AP and the IDX Pro Using them with the MXS and they are about useless. I even think they were cross talking with the MXS. Well working with SAT (Updated) deleted previous. I rechecked SAT in the "All metals modes" With SAT 7 in All metal and Prospecting modes, NOT deaf but greatly reduced volumes. Relic Mode, SAT 7 Worked great..... What the heck? Setting it at Hypersat, Makes it even more crisp. Audio Modulation, I don't even think I'd use it so, ignore that. As previously posted VCO turned on in each of the 6 PP modes. YES each of the regular Modes has a PP mode. In all my research in a few different forums I never found reference to setting VCO on or off in PP mode. I have read that PP audio without VCO doesn't work very well. (Updated) "SAT" audio and depth..... SAT does go weak as the SAT goes higher, But in Relic it seems to bench check full depth and audio full at SAT 7. Going into Hypersat (8) Really gets sharp tight audio. Also tested Tones in the discrimination programs. Seem to work as intended. Except in Relic, 2 tones works best 4 tones a Nickel get muddled, so use 2/8/20 tones.
  14. Amazing, spun my head around. I spent 4 weeks studying for the Amateur radio license, Aced the test. I learned the right answers to pass the test. But what did those answers mean? Amazing amount of options in the Spectra V3i. Makes me wonder if the person who programed the software ONLY worked on the Spectra V3i. You would think someone with that ability would have been good working the MX Sport. It's too hot, 90's here in WV so I'm programing and bench testing the Sport. 3 by 5 cards for each program.
  15. So with Beach mode stuck with Salt track on I went looking for another water option. The High trash program is the same, but with the option to have or not have Salt track. Leaving the Beach mode to be? I'll shut everything in that mode OFF and scroll right around it. Making sure to reground balance at the program mode I stop on. The Prospecting and All metal programs have all the same options. Lacking "Tones". The Relic program stands out as having (ALL) options available.
