Long Tom Sluice
MSC replied to HardPack's topic in Gold Panning, Sluicing, Dredging, Drywashing, Etc
I've made kind of a long tom by putting two sluice boxes end to end. -
California has not yet claimed that breathing causes cancer but give them time.

It does come with a straw just like WD40 so it will work just fine.

Started Spring cleaning of my metal detectors a little early this year. I wipe down all parts with a wet warm clean microfiber cloth, rinsing them often. I always remove the coil covers to clean the bottom of the coil and rinse and wipe the inside of the coil covers. I always find fine dust inside of the cover and have always figured there was/is some amount of magnetic material in that dust, but just to confirm this time, I put a strong magnet to the dust and sure enough, some of it stuck to the magnet. Of course, you know that it will affect how the coil response will be affected, so just a heads up, you may want to clean that dust out of your coil and cover often depending on the amount of use, but for sure, every year. Take care and good luck out there.

Watch out Doc, there's a spider on that hat!!!

2 cents makes no sense as inflation makes 2 cents worth 1/2 cents, you need to charge more cents.

Minelab GPX 5000 Discontinued In U.S. ?
MSC replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
5000's may become hard to find sometime in the future. I have 2 of them, may sell one in a couple of years, have many coils and accessories. Still a very good detector. -
Minelab GPX 5000 Discontinued In U.S. ?
MSC replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
I wonder if this is why Minelab released the 6000 earlier than may have been advised with some early problems, knowing the 5000 was going away. -
Interesting / Alarming Detecting News Downunder

Klunker, you are a valuable artifact. -
There is a good paper book called " Gold Panning in Utah" written by Alan Chenworth, first printing in 2007. Very good guide for finding fine gold in 25-30 streams in Utah. Very detailed as he has been to every stream/river in the state that he reports on. Give a history of finding gold in the state, claims that the largest nugget found was 1+ ounce that he knew of. I have been to the Drum Mountains, again not finding detectable gold, but may try again someday in a different area around there. Thanks for the article GeoBill.

I have tried but have not so far, found any detectable gold in Utah. I have found several areas that contain quarts and detected some of those areas but so far nothing. There is find gold to be found in some streams.

Klunker, if anyone knows anything about something, it would not be someone else but you.

I have since found a few meteorites, some while metal detecting for Gold, a couple while looking for them specifically using a earth magnet on a ski pole. Next to looking for Gold, meteorites are the next best thing to look for.

Like 350Platinum, when I was a kid my friend and I were riding our bikes in late afternoon when we heard and saw a huge meteor with a multi-colored tail flying across the sky. There was a crackling sound as it flew by. We couldn't tell how high it was but it appeared to us that it went over a hill a few miles away, we thought it landed there. We rode our bikes miles to try and find it but didn't. This was during my summer vacation from school, found out when I went back to school in the Weekly Reader that the meteorite landed 500 miles away from where we were.

Doc, I'm with you, the Nugget stalker pick is really well made and can move a lot of dirt with each scrape.

Klunker, I understand, you need to see what you are not hearing, makes sense.
