  1. Drove from Salt Lake City to Wickenburg leaving early one morning looking for a road to some claims to a club I belong to, missed the road and drove 20-25 miles to the East before I realized I had driven too far. Turned around and found the road but it was dark by that time to attempt to drive several more miles to the claims. Decided to stay at a motel in Wickenburg, parked under a parking lamp in the parking lot and took my detectors into my room. Came out the next morning to find much of my equipment had been stolen, tent, bag containing pick, backpack, snake guards, tool box, gas cans, ect. Left at that time early and drove back to Salt Lake, long drive. I think I slept 9-10 hours after getting back home. Long, long drive in a short amount of time.
  2. I have 2 Hodan picks, bought one for my detecting partner, we both like them. I only have to file the pick ends every couple of years to keep them sharp.
  3. It is a volcanic rock that has been blasted out of the volcano as it first erupted, traveled some distance while still very hot with escaping gasses as it was traveling in the air, cooling somewhat before hitting the ground.
  4. I have a 38 foot toy hauler I tow around, I have the same concerns about finding a place to turn around, with that setup, I would have no concerns. Nice and compact, can go a lot of places I can't.
  5. I have watched on tv and read of many of the great finds of ancient coins and artifacts( as well as Steve's trip to Britten )found. I have watched on different documentaries on PBS, folks using 800's in fields with incredible finds from the Roman era. Would love to try that someday. I think your friend has a good system. Good luck out there.
  6. Nice, Rivers rat, looks like fun finds. I am so tempted to get a Nox 800.
  7. Didn't know how/where New Zealand got it's name as New York named after York, Brittan, named after Zealand. Denmark.
  8. Welcome Dirt, good luck on future finds whatever they may be.
  9. Thanks Steve, very good mag. I have been a subscriber for years.
  10. I have a DFX. When I first purchased it I read the Owners Manual but much was over my head at the time. Purchased " Digging deeper with the DFX" by Jeff Foster. That helped a lot, and I was very impressed with that detector. I understand much more due to this site. Thanks!
  11. I was in the area of Sawtooth, I hadn't seen a Rattler in this area ever, I do own 2 sets of Snake Chaps but never wear them. One early morning I was detecting, stepped over a bush and heard a hiss, I turned around to see a 2-21/2 ft. Rattler looking to strike, just dumb luck I hadn't been bitten. I will wear Snake Chaps from now on. As mentioned previously, they really are not a hinder to wear. If bitten, it will be unimaginable pain and expense.
  12. Camels and horses were also native to North America around the same time. Both migrated to other places from here.
  13. It is a shame, I have and use a White's detector at times, wish they could have found a way to keep going.
  14. I have used Doc's kit for several years, works great !!!
  15. Thanks Gerry, great post and thanks for the encouragement to keep going.
