  1. Greetings Everyone, as a proud new owner of a Nokta Makro Simplex, I would like to keep her screen from marring as best I can, these past few days I have been out detecting and have left her factory screen film still on. Does anyone have a recommendation for a fitted screen protector so as to mitigate scratches and the like? It does not have to be a glass one if those are tricky to get, a clear plastic one is fine, like the kind made for some cellular phones out of a clear vinyl type is ok. I am just trying to keep her screen clear. I would not like a full over the head unit type like there exists for the ML Vanquish 540.
  2. I will give you the same advice I gave to budding photographers when they were asking me for advice on different cameras: Put your hands on it, close your eyes and see how it feels in your hand. Are the controls intuitive? How is the texture in your opinion? The grip? Forget about the make & model etc. as the competition is so stiff now that barring water resistance, you cannot go wrong with your purchase as most machine are VERY similar. At the end of the day, buy the one that talks to you, your hands will tell you, THAT is the one you should get because you will be hands on with it for hours at a time. There is noting worse than buying something because it has a certain feature the other one did not BUT you don't use it as much because of comfort level. Comfort can mean many things to many folks, some prefer the texture, others prefer the ergonomics or the "handshake" when you grab it. Comfort trumps features every time, because you will be more active with a machine you WANT to use rather than the you one you purchased due to a certain feature but does not feel as welcoming in your hands.
  3. @JCRthat is sound advice sir. Most likely I will stick witht he Equinox 800 or the Legend and simply get all the little extras, bag, pinpointer etc and maybe save a few dollars in the process. I am still going to wait until i see the reviews on the Manticore though, that new screen tech looks intersting.
  4. @rvpopeye, @Jason-NEK, @Valens Legacy, @F350Platinum, @dogodog, @JCR Thank you all for the warm welcome and advice. I have a budget now of $650 BUT the missus said Iif I can wait until after the holidays then I can stretch that to $1500 and she would be fine with that. So now I am thinking that the ML Manticore should hit the shelves at around that time or so, and maybe I should wait for that one?
  5. Greetings and thank you for the reply, I was not aware that Noktra Makro was the manufacturer, I thought Nokra was the maker and Makro the model, but yes I am interested in the Simplex. The reason for me narrowing it down to these two models is simply by watching a lot of YouTube videos and these come up quite often. Do you think either of these are good ones for a beginner? Garrett Apex/ Noktra Makro Simplex.
  6. Greetings Everyone, I would like to get into the hobby and the boss has generously allowed me a budget of $500 for ALL my gear. This would mean headphones, pin-pointer, trowel, and anything you all can think of. I am looking at the Garrett Ace Apex and also the Nokta Makro Simplex as my first detector. If you all can think of another model I may have overlooked please chime in. I mostly have been looking through YouTube videos to have narrowed it down to these two. Eventually I would like to own the CTX 3030 or the XP Deus/Deus II. I am not going to do any beach detecting, just yards and sides of roads, ranch land and parks. I would like to detect rings/coins. P.S. I am complete Novice, I have never detected before and so would like a detector I can grow into but not grow out of anytime soon, hence my budget. Something in the mid-range would suit me fine, right?
  7. Greetings Everyone, I am new to the hobby and just signed up here to learn from you all fine folk. I am in the market for my first detector and on the fence between the Garrett Ace Apex and the Nokta Makro. I hope to learn am much as I can to then be able to pay it forward when I am able to. I live in Texas with my wife and daughter, i'm a retired/disabled Navy Corpsman who needs to lose a couple (actually more than a couple) pounds and so metal detecting sounds fun! Not to mention I really enjoyed the short lived British TV show "Detectorists", than you all for reading!
