  1. Thank you rvpopeye glad to be here and Oh Man I hope so! HH
  2. Thanks Joe D. I was in Golden Gate Park just last week detecting in between rain storms...wouldn't you know it get a new unit and starts raining for the first time in 6 months plus...I think it is going to be my go to until I can get my beach scoop out of storage. which better happen fast because its getting cold out there and the beach crowds are disappearing... Florida beaches you lucky dog! Good luck to you too!
  3. Chuck I hope your right about how gold being all around, at this point I wouldn't know where to look, But I hope to change that real soon! Merced seems like a good jumping off point to Yosemite and surrounding foothills, nice locale. I'm a bit further northwest and a couple hours away from anything worth swinging over...research research research, gotta make it count! I hear San Antonio has world class Mexican food and Tacos are one of life's simple pleasures, I'm sure you do them justice. HH and all the Best Chuck
  4. Thanks WesD and Deathray, appreciate your input. Haven’t heard of Slate Creek before I’ll have to look it up. Hoping to find something that might not see much snow offering winter time detecting. cheers all
  5. Sounds like a great tool, and I have been having a hard to scratch itch creeping up on me...a win win! and thanks for the link to the holster HH
  6. Thanks F350P! I appreciate your concern and pointing me to that resource. I am just trying to convey my excitement about getting out there. I am not one to go off half cocked and bring the hobby into a bad light. Here Historical areas and nature conservatory's are a no go, Federal areas as well. I want to be a good hearted ambassador to further the hobby not set it back with incurred misguided civic wrath while navigating the labyrinth of open and closed areas 👌 Further Upon reading more into the area I was interested in, there is no off trail hiking or scouting allowed so I will most likely be unable to utilize that location for my initial testing of small targets laid upon the top of highly mineralized ground, using my sub gram test nuggets, pickers, hens teeth or what have you(insert slang name for rice crispy sized gold) and will need to venture further afield to find a secluded area in which to lose my self in the sounds of the GPX targets in my headphones😊 I hope to share some adventures and hope to make finds worthy of sharing as well. HH, John
  7. Its funny the nice grassy areas that are reasonably watered seem to be the place where I can make the cleanest holes with my hand tools...to the point where once my plug is flipped back in you can't recognize any plug was made...I also employ the towel to catch the dirt coming out of the hole so there is little to no trace of fresh dirt. However in those less than ideal areas or areas of ultra scrutiny a smaller plug or opening is definitely ideal 👍 Thanks for the details on the park probe. any opinions on straight versus angled blade? That must have been a good size ring! or maybe my perception of the size of the probe is mistaken 😉
  8. Thanks for the tips Sourdough Scott , I will surely check those resources out.
  9. The devils tongue probe is interesting but I'm trying to understand how you use it...do you cut a smaller plug with it or is it supposed to pop the target out of the dirt or what? I was trying to find a vid on it but was not having any luck
  10. Thanks Jim Tn! I am excited to get swing in’. A little nervous about where to go but I am a little in luck there was a small gold location at a state park near me…it seems they have protected the area for some butterflies so hopefully they won’t mind me scouting around a little and trying to get my ground balancing and test nugget locating a go. No digging, that dirt might have a protected beetle or seeds of a plant that the rare butterflies eat and cocoon in …ahhhh… happy to be here, Thanks again HH Jim -John
  11. Hello Valens Legacy, thanks for the welcoming and hunting luck well wishes, I am happy to be here! I hope I have worthy finds and hunts to share with everyone in the future. I haven’t been to your area but I have stopped in Chicago for a couple nights to see BBKing play the house of blues and I got to say it was amazing! I also had some of the best stout I have every tasted at a small Irish pub in the downtown area. Great times! HH, John
  12. Thanks and Hello JCR, I used to live in Austin. I miss that BBQ…yummy!
  13. New guy in the SfBay Area! making the push to swing my coil over some nuggets. Started detecting back in 2014 just coinshooting in the local parks. Took a break for the last 3 years and just got the itch to get back at it…this time I am making a push to get into nugget shooting by getting some good machines and picking up some research materials to guide my search. Next is to get back into a club or two with the hope to get some access to proven grounds to practice…hopefully hook up with some fellow detectorists and dig those targets! Seems like a great forum community, look forward to seeing y’all in the field! Also want to thanks Steve for his hard work and dedication with all the guides, tips and info, outstanding! Cheers All! John
  14. Hi All, new to the forum and pretty green to nuggetshooting. Was going through the due diligence of finding areas to swing the coil on some shiney and had the bright idea to join a regional club, get on some open claims that I can hone my coil skills on. I was drawn to the GPAA as a well known club but thought I should reach out to the community and see if anyone had any recommendations on clubs to join in the Northern California Area. I was part of the East Bay Prospectors local GPAA about five years back and went on an outing or two…so I am aware of them. Thanks in advance for any assistance, looking forward to getting out there! John as the new guy hopefully this is in the right place and an appropriate topic. Cheers All!
  15. Just can’t reply to your classified ad directly…and just found out I can send you a message, DOH! message sent
