  1. I've got the v1.09 installed and also the Threshold Volume Update. When they refer to "Resetting" the Legend after the update do they mean: 1. Holding down the Power/Settings buttons for 30 seconds? Or 2. Holding the Pinpoint button Until Fd appears on the screen? Or 3. Both? UPDATE: I think I figured it out. I couldn't get the Fd to appear until I did a reset by holding down the Power/Settings button for 30 seconds. I think I am OK now with the update.
  2. Thanks, DSMITH. I'm going to do that. Nokta should send them out with those highlights. Thanks, Jeff. I'll work on trying that as I learn the menu. I've got to get these buttons painted so I can see what I'm doing first!! LOL
  3. I ordered a Nokta Legend to give me something modern to learn while waiting for my Manticore. I studied the manual a bit then put it on my knee while I learned the menu a bit more. I noticed that you can't see the buttons unless you have a light shining right on them or are outdoors in the daylight. Anyway, I tested it on a few coins and other targets and got a general idea of what was where on the ID scale. I didn't think there was anything worthwhile left in my yard after being over it years ago with other detectors. But I did uncover a shallow aluminum can. I should have recognized that for a can but it was the only thing that came in as high as 45. When I had the pool put in I discovered that the Mexican workers didn't throw their cans in the trash. They would just bury them in the dirt they hauled in. That's not the first can I've dug up in my yard!! (No offense to any Latinos here.) I've also got a lot of copper wires running around the yard for sprinklers and pool features, etc. that aren't too deep and I tried to avoid those. I had forgotten how much of a pain it is to dig in this Texas clay when it is wet. It sticks to your shoes, your digging tools, your hands and anything else that happens to touch it. It took half an hour to clean all the clay off my Leach shovel under the hose. I also had to maneuver around the dog pooh I hadn't picked up for a week. LOL I did find a few of my things on the surface that the dog took outside and chewed up! She has chewed up expensive electronic things and shoes in the past. Fortunately, these items were not too expensive. She is off getting spayed today so she wasn't available to help dig. Yeah, they called and she is doing fine after her procedure. I think I'll try a lake beach next time. It's easier to scoop sand than dig in wet Texas clay.
  4. I really have no problem checking targets with fellow detectorists using different machines. We used to do that all the time on iffy targets just to get a different opinion of whether we should dig it or not. Of course, the two of you need to be in close proximity or you really are wasting time.
  5. rled2005, I don't know which video it was but on one of them where they turned a potential buyer loose with a Manticore in a field in Europe does show just that. There was a target on the conductive line and another target on the same screen making a blob up in the iron range. It wasn't gold but the idea was the same. How well it does that with gold we are yet to find out.
  6. Nor December. Looks like 2023 as those experienced with these shenanigans have said. "sigh"
  7. It's becoming obvious that you are a D2 fan girl. Go to the XP forum so you can share with other fan boys and girls.
  8. I've been told that the Deus III will come with an automatic digger feature. Just push a button and it will retrieve the target.
  9. I noticed 2 or 3 just in the right hand "Classifieds" column of this page, if they haven't scrolled off yet.
  10. I noticed there are some Minelab specials with free coils, etc. happening right now. I was just wondering what if Minelab runs a Black Friday special on Manticore pre-orders. Do we all cancel our existing Manticore order and place a new one with another dealer to get the discount or free extra coil or whatever or do we just call our existing dealer and ask for the special?
  11. I'm beginning to realize that the best detecting location is the backyard of metal detector owners. Just find their test bed and dig up those targets!! Sounds like a good way to find coins, rings and jewelry fairly consistently. LOL I know I left a small gold ring in the back yard of the house we sold in Florida when we moved to Texas. My detector was packed away and I dug out the spot I buried it but couldn't find the gold ring without a detector or pinpointer!!! My loss.
  12. Silicone is pretty flexible after it dries and can generally be pealed off a surface. A little testing with a tube of it would be in order before using it.
  13. I agree. But those who already own it need to do something in certain cases.
  14. This is what passes for a Minelab Manticore test video on Youtube lately.
  15. I've heard people say putting a little clear silicone jell in the D2 slot that holds the Remote Control will keep it from falling off. Just give it a day to setup after applying.
  16. It seems nobody has any more new available. Might be able to find one used on eBay for anyone looking for one. I gave up and ordered a Fisher instead but it does have side sensitivity.
  17. You sound like a professor, GB. Is this an essay question for credit for those experienced?
  18. I also noticed the Legend going dark. I'm glad I know about that before mine arrives. I've heard that the Apex is difficult until you figure it out. Garrett needs to up their game in the VLF area.
  19. I think they wanted the name of a fierce creature to slay the competition just as the detector will. LOL
  20. LOL. Did you see my post where I ordered a Legend (The Lagard? Just Kidding) while I'm waiting for my Manti (Or is it the Mongoose now)? I've been reading about your park hauls with it!! I ordered the Pro Pack so I would have a machine with a small coil incase I find a place to search where I would need it. I'll see how it goes. I think you are in the Denver area. I should send you the coordinates for that silver dime spill I found 40 years ago that I left some there. Its probably gone by now though.
  21. I believe ya! I said I was just messing with ya.
  22. That's interesting. One would have to experiment with it to see if it has value. Since the oval isn't always an oval it could provided some very useful ID info. Funny that nobody ever talks about this. I didn't even know the Deus II had this feature.
  23. Not offended at all, Steve. I realize it is just a playful messing with odd names. I too thought Manticore was an odd name when I first heard it. But I do see the variations come from more people who have a Deus II and must feel the Manticore is an assault on the detecting superiority of the Deus II right now. Psych 300 is interesting.
  24. I think most here with a new D2 would probably do the same. You can't just go around dropping $1600 every time a new detector comes on the market. If I had bought a D2 I wouldn't be in the market for a Manticore right now either. But I do think giving silly names to detectors you have no intention of buying is a bit childish. Should we call the Deus II the Dump2? LOL (Just messing with ya)
