Minelab GPX And GPZ Coils Explained
Randy Lunn replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Minelab Metal Detectors
I can not wait for Nenad Lonic's follow-up article where he says he will compare the GPZ 14" and the 19". -
Hi Paul and Condor, just catching up. This is devastating. So sorry to hear about the theft and Paul, the insurance issues can be salt in the wound. I am not sure where you are now, but I live in La Quinta, CA, I am two hours from Quartzsite, AZ and two and a half hours from Yuma. If you want to borrow my GPZ please let me know, and I can meet you half way.

"In the absence of the gold standard, there is no way to protect savings from confiscation through inflation. There is no safe store of value. If there were, the government would have to make its holding illegal, as was done in the case of gold. . . . The financial policy of the welfare state requires that there be no way for the owners of wealth to protect themselves. This is the shabby secret of the welfare statists' tirades against gold. Deficit spending is simply a scheme for the confiscation of wealth." --Alan Greenspan, 1966

Hi Paul, I am going to be nugget hunting in AZ after Christmas from the 27th -31st. If you are still around it would be fun to get together. I do not currently have a plan. Randy

Steve, having a single login for the forums would be helpful and allow people to easily switch back and forth.

Now I believe in love at first sight!

Tom, you have some great pictures of your amazing nuggets. Well done! The guy who is arguably the best mineral photographer is Jeff Scovil. He has a website, http://scovilphotography.com/ ,with examples of his work and also teaches a class at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show in February. He often uses a glass top platform. This allows him to set up lights and reflectors as well as use colored backgrounds. Here is a picture of his set up:

I am not an expert in this area but in general higher ohms will give you less distortion. However it is more important to match the impedance of your source and earphones. I believe the GPZ 7000 has an out put of around 100 ohms. The standard Minelab Koss headphones also have an impedance of around 100 ohms. Given the narrow frequency output range of the GPZ 7000 I would guess that higher ohm headphones do not add much. However, individual hearing might prefer and possibly benefit from higher ohms. Go go with Gold Seeker's advice and compare signals with your buddy's high ohm earphones.

Any feedback yet on the trade-offs of the larger coil? Loss of sensitivity to smaller nuggets?

Well done Lucky! Another great outing with your model 7000 Gold Vacuum. I am headed to RP tomorrow. The weather report is marginal, but I am addicted to the thrill of the hunt.

Thanks Goldgrabber, fun video and congrats on your gold. I drove through Tyndrum two weeks ago. I had been visiting Loch Awe and Loch Leven. I did not realize there was gold in the area. Glencoe on the A82 is an amazing drive. Beautiful but rugged. Not an easy environment for prospecting. Good luck on finding more!
