Have a Kruzer coming. Will be upgrading the battery with this. Will have to save the connection off old battery to use on the new battery. Might get a few more hours out of the machine upgrading to a 4000 MAh battery vs the 3700 MHh baterry that machine comes with. Glad to see you getting out and finding stuff....i'm envious. Over here on the Eastern side of the state, still fighting winter. Seems to be taking longer for Spring to get here this year than past years.

Has been awhile so decided to pop over here and what do I see....a success story with the V3i, the very V3i that has haunted me the last 5-6 years. The day I was there with ya, and I get a V nickel and you popped your 1st Barber quarter, or the time I got a 1919 wheat and 8 feet away ya pop a 76 Seated Quarter and the list goes on and on lol. It pains me, but congrats on that nice quarter find 🙂

Just came across this post, so I'm a little late. But yes I have that coil ( 7") and use it on the MXT & M6 and I feel its a great coil. It can handle a decent amount of Iron, good depth also while getting some coverage. When I recieved the coil I started out using it on the MXT in the morning and then used it on the M6 the rest of the day. With the MXT I got a nice Oregon trade token that was down aways as can be seen by the hole with digger in it. Later that day with the M6 I got a nice Barber quarter. I pretty much just leave that coil on the machine now. Gregg

Hey GB, it was nice meeting you and thanks for coming all that way to enjoy an outing. Thanks for the pics and nice write up. As you now know, the outings can be really fun in those old sites and can also be frustrating at times when ya add in all the iron and rusted tin chunks but there seems to always be a few keepers still out there hiding in the junk. Hopefully Monte will get one put together for next year and if so, I'm sure I'll be there and hope to see a bunch others as well.

Andrew was good seeing you again, if only briefly in the Wells area. Congrats on all the nice finds.

GB_Amateur, thanks for resurrecting UtahRich's post from last year. I gave it a glance over and realized something........... I still have a steak dinner coming 🙂 Heck, after June 13th I might have a couple steak dinners waiting for me. Anyhow, hope to see you there as well as others. Everyone is welcome to come join us. I always look forward to the outing(s) as they always end up being a very fun trip. Wells has been a favorite area as there are plenty of different sites to go to and a good chance of finding something nice.

Rich, it was good seeing you again and yep.......that steak dinner is gonna taste good 🙂 Congrats on that really nice 2 cent piece. That one is still on the list. It was another fun outing that Monte put together. Met some new people and was good to see some familiar faces from past outings. This year I only used the Fors CoRe and 4.7" x 5.2" coil. Managed to get ( for me) a couple of top bucket listers. Of the 130 or so trade tokens I have found I could never seem to get a 12 1/2 token. Also I have always wanted a Nevada trade token. Last year I found a 2 1/2 token down there but it was a Utah token. So I guess if your gonna do it, might as well kill two birds with one stone. Got a " Clover Valley Bar" Tobar Nevada 12 1/2 token. Made me very happy and was my favorite find of the trip. Also got a maverick token that originated out of Wells, NV. Kinda a strange token. On the front is " Bong Tong" and on the back the number "5". Other finds for the trip were a 17 merc, 16 barber dime and 1845 seated dime. Nice Eagle button and a large shell casing with bullet and rough shield nickel. The 12 1/2 token came out of the ground all encrusted with that calcium/lime like build up that is almost impossible to get off. So I had to give it my special formula cleaning. I like to try and clean a coin or token up but yet let it still look old. But in this case in order to get that crap off the token, it comes out looking new ( it will naturally darken up in a year or so). But I was pleased that once cleaned it was in nice condition. Not a shell casing bullet guy, but the one I found on the trip was the biggest I have found. Notice in pic it is sitting on a penny and almost the same diameter. The other shells were found at other times and used as a comparison. All in all it was another fun trip and hope there will be some more in the future. By the way UtahRich, can I bump that steak dinner up to a prime rib dinner ?? 🙂

Hi Gerry, we were down in Elko County NV last year. That's an 1853 Quarter. Was down with a few friends. Was the only coin I got on that trip. But it made me a happy camper. Up to that point, it had been awhile since I have snagged a nice silver quarter. It cleaned up pretty nice. Worn fairly good but still had some good detail. Found it with the Nokta Fors CoRe. gregg

Congrats on the nice finds. I keep eyeballing that machine ( ORX ) thinking I might have to give one a try someday. But until then I'll see ya in June and be ready for some more battles against a few old school machines LOL On the plus side, Monte has an ORX coming to evaluate and being he lives the next town over, I'll definitely be over there checking it out. And a chance to use it in some of our local old sites. One question I have and I am not that familiar with the machines yet. If the battery is now placed in the lower rod section of the ORX how come they do not offer a smaller 5-6" coil or small 4x6" elliptical or something along those lines? As great as it can do with the 9" coils, imagine what it might accomplish with a smaller coil in those nasty iron/rusted tin filled sites we try to tackle.

I like Nickels, especially if its the only old coin ya found for the day. Beats going home skunked Went out a bit with Monte today and a nickel was all I was able to snag.

Steve, I don't blame ya a bit. From the looks of it, a popular forum such as this could easily become a full-time job. Like you I think I would take the "part-time" approach and just go enjoy detecting, family, and friends. As they say, we aren't getting any younger. Some of my most enjoyable times are when I load up a few detectors, my two mutts and head for a remote ghost town. Halfway there the cell reception drops, we see an abundance of wildlife and scenery. The dogs love the wide open areas to play and I get to detect with a chance to find something neat. Even if I do get skunked the day was still a winner. It looks to be a good Machine and able to do what Minelab machines do good at. To me the big question is can it also do what Minelab machines generally fail at and that is handle heavily iron infested sites? If it does, that's even better. If it doesn't it is still going to be a winner. This is still quite a package, multi-freq. that can be run independent or simultaneously, freq. that range from 5kHz to 40kHz and water proof to 10 feet. All this for around $800, and as stated before, I think is the biggest shocker.

Hi Steve, Ya Monte & I are still beat'n around the old sites trying to scrounge up an old coin or two. If you ever get tired of finding all that gold, come on up to Eastern OR. we have a few sites we can get knee deep in the iron and rusted tin and have fun.

Actually, the Impact is 5, 14 & 20kHz. Dilek ( Nokta/Makro) has stated a few times on the forums that a waterproof machine will be out soon. And that's about all I know. I don't know if it will be multiple freq. or a single freq. and if it will be a Makro or Nokta machine. Hopefully, by springtime, we will know.

tboykin, congrats on the nuggets. Hope they pan out to be the real deal. It also showed me that I guess I had better stick to finding old coins. The only gold I may ever find will be round and have a date stamped on it. When you stopped and showed them to me......I would have never guessed them as gold. And yes it was fun seeing that girl find her 1st silver coin with the MX Sport. She was so excited , she was shaking. I guess without those quirky engineers, we wouldn't have much in the way of good detectors. But there is one detecting manufacturing company that has something the others do not......they have a Dilek. What a difference having a Dilek makes.

The only thing I can think of that a person might do, provided they still do it, is before purchasing a new/used machine is get the serial number and call it in. In the past you could call Whites give them a serial number and they would tell you the date ( day-month-year) a machine was manufactured. If its a early to mid 2016 model I would prob pass and try for a later date model.

The Gold Racer can actually be used as a coin hunting machine and is certainly hotter on lower conductors and small gold jewelry items. One of the nice surprises that Monte and I seen was the ability for the Gold Racer with stock coil to pass the Nail Board Test. It did it quite easily. It can handle a iron infested site well. The only thing the Gold Racer gave up over its siblings ( Racer, Racer 2,) was some depth, you could not achieve the same height over the Nail Board test as what a Racer or Racer 2 machine could get with same size coil. But that's expected, the GR is a 56KHz machine. Where you will be using it approx 30% of the time maybe for Coin & Relic hunting, I feel the Gold Racer will do a pretty good job for that. When it comes to Coin hunting and sites littered with iron etc, I still would give the nod to the Gold Racer as I feel it will fair better over the 705 in those conditions. But I would not be afraid at all to use a Gold Racer part time as a coin & relic detector.

Hi tboykin, The only other thing I noticed in the 2016 catalog was that the Eclipse 9" spider coil was missing. Did they just forget to add it in or is also being discontinued ?? I hope not, is a far better coil than the ol' 950.
